Climbing High

Aloha my scrappy friends!! How is your weekend? I have been relaxing this morning, reading, watching cartoons with my kiddos, and drinking coffee. Just a nice Saturday morning.

I may have mentioned, I may not have, but this week as part of my One Little Word process, I have challenged myself to blog everyday this week. My word is Intention and I want to be intentional about the things I want to do. Like blogging, has been really on my heart do be an important part of my voice. I love blogging, even though I put it off all the time. Probably because it takes a lot of time. I really love the continually conversations, and blog type relationship that can grow over time. I also have found that I really enjoy looking at others blogs this year.

I have been happy that I have been able to do it. I think that I want to focus more on blogging as time goes on. I just need to figure out how I want to do it, how I want to blog. I don’t just want to share layouts. I want to share photos, stories and my life as it goes along  with scrapbooking.

Today I want to share a layout I made for Mercy Tiara’s all boy challenge in here FB group. I love the fun atmosphere on her new group, and her fun monthly challenges. I find it hard to keep up with all the challenges going on around Facebook now days, on top of the extra online class load I have created for myself.  I love that she just focuses on one challenge a month. It makes it much easier to join in the fun there.

I used my February Hip Kit. I have been really bad about using any of my kits that I have been getting. I love them, but for some reason I haven’t just picked them up to use. I have been grabbing my new collections. And I really am mostly ok with that, except that I have kits piling up that I really should use, because I paid for them!!

I also added some of my new Paige Evans Fancy Free paper, notice the circles with fun phrases in them. I swear it feels Paige was thinking of me when she made that page, because the phrases awesome sauce and cool beans. I thought I was the only one who really used those!! Who knew?!!

Those circles though are the perfect place to build embellishment clusters!! I used the Dear Lizzy word phrases and other small embellishments. Keeping it really simple.

Which is apparently my thing lately. Simple and I am not going to lie I rather like it!!

I stuck with the different tones of blue and green to fit with the boy theme, plus my son Sam loves the color blue. It’s his favorite so it seem appropriate it use. It even happens to match the color he is wearing.

I love these pictures. Sam had been wanting me to take pictures of him doing everything. And as a mom how could I say no, especially knowing maybe one day it won’t be so easy to get pictures of him. Plus I love these type of pictures, my kids playing having fun.

Sam was rocking (no pun intended) climbing up these fake rock cliff to get to the slide. The slide is his favorite, has been since he was so little. When his sisters were scared about how high the slide, Sam would go down that slide no problem, over and over again!!

To try to change things up, I tried to capture the perspective a little different with my camera for these pictures.

I used Thickers that you can color yourself from a past Hip Kit and tried to mix colors to get a shade of blue that was close to the background Amy Tangerine paper. Unfortunately I didn’t get a good match but that’s ok because they still worked and i still love the color.

I really like mixing fonts for titles. I made sure my tile alphas were staggered to match to the fact that my son is climbing and the rocks that go up. Plus I have the hardest time getting them straight so why not just make them un straight on purpose?!!

I did not do a video for this layout. I have been trying more lately to just do a layout without the camera rolling. Just to have fun creating without having to edit the video and upload it. It takes a little less pressure off. Which is something I need to do for me. Though I sill say it’s weird to do at first when you are used to taping every single layout.

I hope you enjoyed this layout, and the fact that I am blogging more. I am planning on posting two more straight days and then seeing what else I want to do. Whether it’s blogging a few times a week or what. This time though I am just going do what feels right and take it from there. No Pressure!!

Have a great weekend my scrappy friends!!

I love this view!! Can I just start off by saying that!! I often look at these mountains and feel SUPER lucky to be able to see them everyday!! EVERYDAY! i just have to let that sink in.

In a little over a month I will be leaving this beautiful Island and moving some place new. I love adventure, and I know that our new place will have tons of that. But a part of my heart hurts knowing I have to leave this behind. When we came here on our honeymoon almost 10 years ago, I never imagined that I would be able to ever come back again.

And here it was some odd years later and we find out our next duty station, way far away from family, way far away from where we asked to maybe move, way far away from all we knew, but just the perfect place for me. It was like God smiling down on me, giving me a little gift because he knew I would never ask to visit again, I would never be selfish enough to imagine myself being able to live in this place that I had loved so much.

I know I am lucky, I had lived in Hawaii as a seven year old, and got to be able to go back for my honeymoon that first summer my husband and I were married. It was so much more than someone like me could really ask for. But I had also fell in love with the beauty of this place. It just calls to you. And you dream about it, thinking if only you could go again.

The day my husband told me our orders, I truly knew it was a God thing. Sometimes you just know when God does something nice for you to say Hey, Hannah I love you. I care about what you love!! Here you go, go live there for a little while.

I was so happy!! I am so happy, that I got to come back here for the third time. Many people never get the chance to view the tranquil breeze, the sunshine kissing your nose and the fine sand in between their toes. The taste of fresh sweet juicy pineapple or smell the soft fragrance of plumerias. I am LUCKY! I AM THANKFUL!!

Now after living here for three years is it perfect, of course not, definitely not!! I hate the traffic getting in the city during rush hour, I hate all the rain in the winter, or during a hurricane, I am not fond of the crowds of tourists not paying attention to where they are walking when crossing the streets. But the amazing things here far outweigh, for me at least (Maybe if you ask my husband he would tell you the opposite) the not so appealing things about living in Hawaii.

Now that we are leaving I feel that time clock ticking down and all the things I want to capture before we go, so I can lock them in my brain vault to remember forever!! Having pictures to prove I really was here, even if in the scheme of life it wasn’t really all that long.

I have the hardest time truly getting the perfect shot I long to capture when taking Landscapes, the wide shots. I feel like things get lost in that lens and all the detail I can see when my eye isn’t showing up. One ion the things I am constantly trying to do is practice taking those shots so I can better show others what I see when I look at these things. Like these mountains.

On my photo walk I actually like for the first time in a while I got a landscape shot I am happy with. It’s not perfect. The lighting isn’t all that great, there is a bit of haze from the vog (it has been kinda bad lately), and I wish frankly the houses weren’t in the shot. I am not one to over edit, to take things out, to spend a lot of time shading and coloring the sky and mountains to make them stand out, even if they were to look natural.

This is what I see out of my lens of my camera when I see these mountains. I just want to enhance it a little.

So this is actually the original shot I took at the park. much more grass, a little more light and it’s hard to see the clouds that were actually in the sky. If you look at the picture at the top I did just a little editing (spent maybe 5 minutes adjusting the levels). And I like the final look.

You know when I set out to do this blog post I was gonna tell you all about this layout challenge I did. All about what products I used. How I went over my time limit. How I used a kit to scrap faster. Where I got the cut file I used for the background. But you know what, I feel that this story was so much more important to tell today. I am embracing my storytelling abilities. Because that is what I want my pages and pictures my layouts to be about, telling my story, all of it.

How I love Hawaii and feel honored that I get to set my feet on this holy red tinged dirt, how I get to breathe in the salty fresh breeze on a hot afternoon, how I get to taste the juicest and tangy pineapple. All these things are little treats that make my life so much better. These things help my soul feel happy.

That is the story I am telling today. I will add some pictures of the layout I made and you can browse through them, but I hope what resonates with you is that I am telling my story, the way I know how, through my lens.

I hope my layout says that. Shouts, I Love Hawaii and I am going to miss it, but I will remember it!!

So here are some close ups of the layout I made and I hope they make you smile!! I hope you feel like making a layout about something you love and that brings you joy!! I hope you take the time to capture in your life the things that matter most to you!!

Aloha, Hannah IMG_6488

I think this acetate word from Pink Fresh Studio is my favorite element. It is perfect in the white space of the sky!!

I kept the embellishments light, since I wanted the star of this layout to be the photo. I probably would be have printed it off larger if I had bigger photo printer paper at home, but I was out.

I like the way the journaling (which is only half the story I want to tell), is peeking through the clouds!!

The different textures in the cluster really gives this layout a natural and fun feel. Vellum cloudy like the haze, Cork like the texture of the ridges in the mountains, blue in the hints of sky that are trying to peak through and red like the dirt!

Story time With Hannah

Aloha my scrappy friends!! I hope this week is treating you well! I have had a busy week, full of doctors appts, school works and a little fun mixed in. That’s generally how my life looks on a weekly basis lately. Then I try to squeeze in some creative time for me, because I love scrapbooking and getting my hands dirty with media.

One of the things I have moved towards this year a lot more is this desire to tell the stories of my life, my families life. I love history and I love that we are living history lessons in the making. Even if our life seems normal to us, one day someone will look back and see how we all did things. This urge to document my story has always been a part of me, whether I was writing in a diary, taking photos, and making videos of just goofy things with my cousin, I have always been interested in the ways we can document our lives.

Now that I am older, now that I have found scrapbooking. I see that this need to tell my story for the future (whether thats my kids, and grandkids or maybe some random person who happens upon my albums at some flea market or antique store) is really just a part of who I am. And it started with the ones I love. When I went back home to visit my family it really was the perspective I needed. I seen my Grandma’s shelves filled with photo albums from over the years. I heard her tell the stories behind the photos. Even though it isn’t traditional scrapbooking, she is a scrapbooker at the heart. I remember going through these albums as a kid, and i loved going through these albums with a different lens. The lens of time. I wish I had time to write all the stories, and people who are in our family albums, because I know when she is gone, a lot of those stories will be gone. (I think that is why know I feel it so much more important to tell the stories that I remember because life is to short to hold them all in for later!)

So last night when I sat down to scrap I decided it was time to tell this story I am about to share with you.  The photo I used to scrap this story, is not even from when my story takes place. But I am learning it’s not really always about the actual photo. I mean, this actual photo isn’t really all that important in the scheme of things. Except it shows us as a family interacting and having relationships like we used too. This photo could have taken place at any one of our family get togethers. Because of that it is getting used to tell my story.

I used a sketch from  Sketch class I am taking by Tracie Claiborne and Crafty Jen Schow called Ready, Sketch, Go. I liked the idea of not having to worry about the design by using a sketch. Using a sketch gives me the freedom to focus on the story, which is really what I want to do. Did I add me own twist?! Of course, I find that I just have this just who I am too. I am ok with that.

I also used the April Clique Kit I received this month, it had Simple Stories Life In Color collection has its main element. This collection really focuses on capturing life, stories. The colors are fun too. I thought it would be a good base for a story about my grandfather and his need to film.

I guess now is a good time to tell the story that my layout is about. My grandfather (who died when I was in junior high school) loved to take out his camcorder, which was huge because it was from the early nineties. When ever we got together for a holiday or get together, he would place the camcorder on a counter in the kitchen and press record. The videos would be a couple of hours of coming and goings in the kitchen. The kitchen was usually where most of us hung out, and we were a big family so usually someone was in there. Sometimes there would be stories being told on the videos, sometimes it would be jokes and laughter. There was usually at some point yelling at kids, to come or calm down too.

These videos could sometimes be pretty boring, but looking and thinking back at them, it captures our family and our relationship. We would get together many times, at every holiday, most birthdays and it was fun. I have lots of fond memories of our close family. (As an adult, and being so far away, I really miss having that closeness with my family.)

Now the fact that we have ten or twelve VCR tapes with chaos of our togetherness, makes me smile. To hear the voices of all of us having a good time is something we can cherish. Of course I don’t even know if any of us can play them, because VCR’s are hard to come by.

I think about my love for documenting and know that without a doubt, I got it from my grandfather too. Only he was crazy enough to document the everyday, the common. I think about how it was just part of what went on when we were together, us kids didn’t even think about it. I love that it is engrained in my past, that now grabbing a camera is like second nature to me too. I would love to thank my grandfather for that.

Okay, now that I have rambled on, I should finish talking about this layout. I decided to add tags along the left hand side. I was thinking about conversations and speech bubbles, and how I wanted the journaling to read more like conversations that may have been had on these videos.

I kept the layout simple and only added a few papers. I made use of the cut parts Simple Stories is known for too. This camera lens was perfect because I was talking about a camera. That card was also the perfect place to add a title. I decided to have fun with the title too, my grandfather was always joking and would have loved it.

Above this 4×6 card I added a row of simple embellishments. The acrylic camera was so cute I had to use that!!

I also added an embellishment cluster at the top of the photo and the other 4×4 cut apart card I used. I kept these simple too, the hearts made it easy to do.

I hope you enjoyed this journey down memory lane!! I hope to share more story inspired layouts as a series. I think the more I scrap the more I want to tell the stories of my life, my families lives, the stories we will want to tell at the holiday tables, or get together. Stories that when we look back at them in many many years will bring a smile to our faces.

Whether things stories tell of birthdays, holidays or just everyday things these are the stories of my family that I want to tell. And I hope I have inspired you to want to tell the moments and stories that matter to you!!

Aloha, until next time, Hannah

For the love of homemade kits: New kit share Round Two

Aloha Scrappers!! I am super excited to share this new recipe and kit with you today!! I can’t believe we just finished our first round of this series and now going to start another round, round two!!

This Round I really tried to simplify my kit more. Also Megan and I decided to add another layout to our line up. After me really being able to get so much out of my first kit, we figured it would be more challenging for us to try to make 4 layouts with this kit.

Also this round we have another Youtube joining in on the fun, My friend Felicia Young is joining in. She will be sharing her kit this week as well. Then next week she will be posting her layouts on her Youtube channel. Be sure to check out the links and see what both Felicia and Megan make and come up with. Also if you want to join us, be sure to share, with us your homemade kits!! We really want to inspire you to use your stash up and create layouts you love!!

Here is the recipe we used this time, we did change it up a little,

Inspiration paper: Maggie Holmes Shine Memento

I love this idea of starting off a kit with an Inspiration Piece, this really should be no surprise, since I have put together a whole youtube channel that uses inspiration pieces to start with. (though that is neither here no there..) An inspiration piece really helps to be able to tie things together some how. no matter how you use to interpret that piece.

We are using the same recipe for papers this round, which are,

  • a geometric paper
  • texture pattern (ie. woodgrain, fabric, brick, etc)
  • Stripe
  • Freebie pattern of our choice
  • 6×6 piece paper

These are the papers I choose this round:

  • Pink Paislee C’est La Vie 01
  • Dear Lizzy Documentary Fancy Free
  • Maggie Holmes Bloom Lizzy
  • Shimelle Starshine Hubble
  • 6×6 Maggie Holmes Confetti Page (streamer Circles)
  • Piece of Pink Paislee Memorandum Memo

Here is a look at my Papers

I really wanted to keep my papers fairly simple because the inspiration paper is bold and has tons of colors.

For the embellishment part of the recipe:

  • cut file
  • chipboard
  • stamp set
  • washi tape
  • tags
  • Sticker sheet
  • die cuts/ embellishment pack
  • enamel dots
  • free embellishment
  • 2 Alphas (Thickers, etc)

Let’s take a look at what I put in my kit:

For my alpha’s I picked Amy Tangerine Foam Thickers Thick and Thin in white and Pink Fresh Studio Happy Things Foam Phrase Words

I chose 2 sticker sheets, Maggie Holmes Bloom stickers(black, gold and clear) and Shimelle Starshine clear sticker sheet.

I chose Fancy Pants Happy Place Tags pack and some Crate Paper Wonder Acetate tags.

I am am bad about following rules (have I mentioned that..LOL) I have three freebie embellishments. I really want to use these so I don’t really feel bad about adding some extra’s in my kit. I have a pack of Maggie Holmes Bloom Hearts, Pink Fresh Studio Happy Things wood veneer, and Color Cast Designs acrylic stars.

For Dies cuts, I added Simple Stories I am die cuts as well as mixing in some digital die cuts that I bought from Claudia Van Rooijan’s Amy Collection at her Esty shop. (That collection was designed be Claudia herself)

My Stamp Set is one I recently bought from an online store Sakuralala, which was designed by Amy Tan. This stamp was just released when Amy came to Hawaii in April.

For my Chip board I picked Maggie Holmes Shine chipboard. (I actually had to sheets of this chip board so I really want to try to get most of that used up!!)

I have two rolls of wash tape, a pink glitter tape and a grey swiss dot wash tape.

I have enamel dots by Dear Lizzy ( believe they are from the Daydreamer collection) and one other pack from Allison Kreft #Happy.

I can’t wait to share with you the layouts I am making from this kit!! I am excited to use this kit. It’s so colorful!!

I hope you check out Megan’s Kill A Kit and new Kit share video, link here. Also check out Felicia’s Kit share here.  We will start to share our layouts next Tuesday May 3rd. We will be sharing 4 layouts with this kit, so look forward to lots of fun and lots of ideas and inspiration.

For the love of Homemade Kits: Kill a kit

Aloha Scrappers!! I am having so much fun using the homemade kit that I made with the recipe Megan and I put together.  We set out to make three layouts with our kit. I had a big feat because I made a pretty big kit with my stash. Do you remember all that I had in my kit. Here is a refresher… IMG_5456

I will say that I still have tons left of my kit. Which means I had made a really big kit, maybe too big. I think building homemade kits are fun, but there is a learning curve. After talking to Megan, I think we both had learning to do this round. She added to much pink in her first kit, which made it difficult when making layouts with a house full of boys. This made me really think about how i would go about making my kit next time. Keeping in mind what your own style and what you typically scrapbook about is really important to think about when making a homemade. The really nice thing about making your own kits, is that you really have control over what type of products go into your kit.

When starting out with a recipe Megan and I really went through and talked about the types of things we have in our stash. Having a good idea of the products you like and lean towards is good to know when making homemade kits. You really have the opportunity to add all these things in your kits. This is what we had in mind so that we can really make the most out of our kits.

I was a little disappointed seeing all I had left, it was really hard to make sure I was using my kit to the best. I found this kit and lately my layouts have been simpler and less product on it. This is not a bad thing, but it is another thing to keep in mind when also making your homemade kits. You really want to make a dent in your stash while making layouts that are your style and make you happy to use up your stash.

This is what I have left from my kit…

Now one thing I will say is that I did actually use a lot of what I had in my kit. I just wished I could have killed my kit more. In fact I still have my kit together in a drawer in my scrap space, so that I can try to get another layout done with it. I think that I could probably get another two layouts with what I have left if I tried!!

When I make layouts with the rest of the kit I will be sure to share it on here!! I definitely plan to be sharing more on my blog than my Youtube channel as I get closer to our move time in June and while we are in the moving process. But I will talk more about that more later, in another post.

Here are the layouts I got done with my kit. I am definitely happy with the amount that I got done with this kit.

Here are the other layouts I made with this kit. These are layouts I didn’t do videos for as well.

For this first layout, I really wanted to play more with my watercolors. The watercolor was a big part of the kit, or at least to me, and I barely used it. I used the plastic package technique, to add my watercolors that matched the blossom paper. I also used the some of the cut outs from the cut file I used the week before. I really love when I can use both parts of a cut file, especially when I use pattern paper to cut them out. I feel like I made the most out of my paper that way. Especially when the paper is as beautiful as this pattern is.

I kept the die cuts simple, with all the pattern and color from the mixed media I thought it needed to be simple. I also decided to really layer my papers behind my photo. Here are some close ups of my layout. Including the journaling which I added later.

I love the airy feel this layout has even though I used lots of paper and watercolors!!

For this last layout I made I pulled a lot of product from a story kit I bought from Ali Edwards. I used the Tough kit I got last month. Th paper is one of the flip sides from the kit. The reason I didn’t share this in a video is I wasn’t exactly sure how I wanted to tell this story. I really wanted this layout to be about the story and not the product or even the kit I used.

I layered my papers at the top and the bottom. I used this floral because I thought it kept the unique feel that I was kinda going for. especially since this is a family photo of my mom and her siblings and my grandmother. I left lots of open space for the journaling because I knew I would need it. That I had a lot to say about this photo.

This acrylic word is from the Tough story kit. It is simple but I really like it for the title. even though everyone is smiling nicely in the photo, the journaling talks about we miss my aunt.

I like this simple flair and this phrase sticker as an embellishment.

I also added some layered ephemera (also not from this kit) with a chipboard piece. The enamel dots also add some color to the layout.

This phrase sticker was also from the story kit, and I punched out a circle with more enamel dots.

Like I said I kept everything nice and simple but focused on the journaling.

I was going to do my New kit share in this post but I think I am just going to make a new post up for it. This post ended up being way longer than I planned, in a good way. I am really pleased with what I did, and used, even though I want to use more.

I hope you check out Megan’s Kill a Kit video she is posting on Her Youtube channel.

I can’t wait to start another kit next week!!

Aloha, Hannah

Photo Walks

Aloha my scrappy friends!! I hope you had a great weekend. I had such a productive weekend, crafty wise with fun mixed in too. We went to a fund raiser we have starting participating in now that Leilani has been diagnosed with cancer. St. Baldricks is a non profit foundation that raises money and awareness to childhood cancer research. The kids loved seeing their doctor and nurse shave their head to show support.

As I may have mentioned lately, I am taking Ali’s Edwards Lens of Joy. In February I was able to purchase my first DSLR camera. I am now in love!! I completely love this camera, I barely want to use my IPhone, or even my point and shot camera.

Lately to better learn manual mode, because I am really trying to mainly shot in manual. It is scary, and not every picture I get is good, I often find lightening the hardest thing. Probably because where I live in Hawaii, one minute the sun shine is fully out and then the next minute it’s really cloudy. As difficult it is I am really learning how my camera works together to get the shots I do want to capture.

Here are a couple of examples of shots that didn’t quite turn out because of the lighting, and wind blowing. The top picture I just couldn’t get a good exposure on these flowers. With the wind blowing and the direct sun, the color and exposure is way off. I tried to fix this in Photoshop a little but there was no way to save this photo. I think on my next walk I am gonna try again. Because these little flowers are really pretty and cute. The detail potential really has me wanting to come back for another try.

This bottom one, I kind of like though, even though I was trying to get the closer flowers more in focus. This one is blurry from the amazing Hawaiian breeze we get. I still like how you can see through the tree though.

I have been doing a lot of photo walks. They often end up at the parks in my area, because my kids like to play. I actually really have enjoyed this though. I get a chance to capture my kids having fun playing, which is different then shots of my kids up close. I have realized I like to take shots closer, and with less background. I like that I am finding my photo voice. I am trying to take a step back and get more in my lens but I am also embracing this close look too.

Here is an example of me taking a closer shot while my girls were playing on the playing. This bottom photo is me taking a step back and taking wider shot on purpose.

I thought it might be fun to share some of the photos I have taken on my walks, and what I love about them. Especially since in scrapbooking and story telling photos can be so important for capturing a feeling you want to express. (not that all the pictures I took on my walks are for story telling purposes, because many of them are just for fun.)

Here is an example of a cool shot I took in my yard, on the first day. It was really cloudy and then started raining before we could take our walk. I took these shots anyway, just playing around with my camera. I really love how cool these shot looked.

I then took this close up. I was really trying to get a spider web that was in between the links. It ended up being to delicate to get a shot of. Maybe if I had a macro lens I could have gotten the shot I wanted. But this link one still was cool.

Since I apparently am on a kick for shooting pictures of chain links I thought I would share this shot I took on my last photo walk at the park my kids like to play at from time to time.  I was looking through the first link with my lens. obviously these pictures really aren’t for any kind of story but it was still fun to let go and just take pictures of things that were different. (I am actually thinking that some of these cool pictures that I have taken I want to get put on canvases and hang in the house as art pieces.)

Here are some more of the photos I took on that cloudy rainy day. (Technically this wasn’t a photo walk I know, but I did take a few of photos throughout my yard)

I have tons of flowers in pots in my yard. I love when they are blooming.

The veins in my plumeria trees are so cool. It will still be a little while before they bloom this year. I hope I can see at least on of them bloom. I planted them from small stubs, and they have grown so much in the three years that we have been here. I am sad I have to leave then behind.

IMG_1402 copy

I wanted to get down low and get so shots of Sam playing with his cars. It was hard to not get all the stuff in the background that is on our patio. It really isn’t that big so it seems cluttered most of the time.

These last two shots, I took to play around with perspective. Sam loves to line his toys up a lot. There is no order to it, but it’s kinda fun. To get all the background noise if you will, I took this overhead shot, slightly to the side. I really like this shot. But the shot I took up above, was fun too. I got on my tummy. I wanted a kid’s eye view. Because Sam gets all down into his toys when he is playing.

This picture of my flowers was the next day. The sun was out a little more, which helped it not look so dark, like the first picture I got. Also my flowers opened up a little more. This is my favorite shot I took in my yard. These orchids look so pretty and boy are they hearty. If only you could see the shape of my poor pot is in, it’s a wonder this orchid still blooms!!

These pictures are from the first actual walk I took.

IMG_1525 copy

These water manholes were so cool. They are all rusty and ragged, but the texture and lines on them I just love.

IMG_1548 copy

Can’t forget to get more pictures of the local flowers!! The color on these Hibiscus is so vibrant!!

Leilani and Sam wanted to hold hands on our walk. They look so sweet together. I love how much all my kids love each other. It’s easy to forget about all the bickering and fighting when you see a picture like this.

Wide angle landscape shots are the hardest for me to take. I feel like the dramatic look these mountains have is lost in the lens. I really want to change the way I look at these mountains so I can get better shots. I did edit this in Photoshop to make the contrast in the mountains a little more. It tends to be hazy here in hawaii and I find that it really lightens up the mountains in my shots. The detail of the ridges in these mountains is incredible. I will miss looking at these mountains everyday for sure.

This photo of Cayden is hilarious, which is why I included it. She was so hot from our walk. This shade is apparently just what she needed!! Being in the tree was necessary too!! The life of a six year old!!

I love the perspective of this shot of Cayden in this tunnel at the park.

I let Sam and Cayden play in the splash pad, and this picture of Sam running through the water is so much fun!!  This bottom photo is one of my fave at the park. I love the perspective and the feeling of this shot. I love how I got the shot at the exact moment he pressed the water button!!

I took this on the way home from our walk. I wanted to play around with a self portrait style of photo. I barely am in the pictures of our albums. This is a fun way to add me to the albums along with the kids.

These last set of photos are from our second photo walk.

They are just so cute!! It’s their turn to walk together on our second photo walk. I will admit I was disappointed in the pictures I too on the walk to the park. They really didn’t come out. The sun was shining so bright, I had a hard time getting good shots that weren’t all blown out. But really it’s ok, because the shots I did get and of the kids playing doing the things they love are what matters. Yes, I am hoping to really add to the Hawaii nature shots so I have lots to look at and admire when we leave. But in the long run, I think I will love looking at the pictures of my kids enjoying them selves in the years to come. I really learned a lot about getting good running and moving shots that day. So really I think that walk was a major win, instead of a loss.

Lani wanted to play the drums and apparently they sound cooler when you use your elbows!!

Here is another example of how I like to take close up photos. I love how the movement of Cayden’s hair looks like in this picture. I think if I had gotten a full size shot of her, that aspect may have gotten lost.

I got lots of pictures of the kids, especially Sam. He really would get sad when I wasn’t taken his picture. He was loving this fake rock mountain!!

And the slide!!  Sam kept bugging Leilani to play Tag. I love this shot of them running I got. I love that with a fast shutter, I can freeze frame them!!

To finish off my pictures is another shot I took in my yard, this last day. My plumeria is budding. I love the detail and color of the buds. I love how all these little buds will eventually be beautiful big flowers, with pinks, oranges and yellows on their petals.

I hope you enjoyed going on this walk with me. I shared tons of photos. This isn’t even all I took. I really was trying to play and get to know my camera along with capturing my kids. I love how by changing myself I could get a whole new look.

I hope I inspired you to think a little different at how you take pictures. I hope you learn to love this aspect of story telling. I am realizing that I connect  so much more as I focus on new aspects, different aspects of what I am taking photos of. I will say that I will do try to take pictures and then put my camera down too though. I still want to interact with my kids, my surroundings to connect too. I think this balance is most necessary in learning to tell our story.

Am I more beautiful with earrings? (For the love of homemade kits)

Aloha My scrappy friends!! This past week has flown by. I am taking Ali Edwards‘ Lens of Joy class, and I am loving thinking all about photo taking. All I want to do is grab my camera and take photos. It has been really hard to sit down to scrap, because I just want to go places and take photos. No Lie, and No shame!!

I know I will have a chance to use my photos later, so taking photos really doesn’t bother me. I was actually thinking of turning some of my photos into canvas for my house.

Anyway back to what I would like to share with you today. As you may know, my scrappy friend Megan and I have been using our homemade stash kits lately. We made a recipe and this week we are sharing our third layout with our kit. This is the final layout on process video I will be sharing with this kit. Next week we will be sharing our new kit, recipe for the kit and what we had leftover from our kit. (i will be sharing the other layouts I made with my kit too, because I had tons of stuff leftover and wanted to try to kill it more.)

For this layout I wanted to play with some paint. Yellow paint was one of the things I added to my kit as the paint element. I was really wanting to have the paint to peek through a cut file.

I added the acrylic paint without adding gesso to my plain white cardstock. I find sometimes the gesso warps the paper more, and since all I was adding was acrylic paint, I figured the page would be fine without the gesso. If I were adding modeling paste or sprays and watercolors, I would definitely add gesso so the water wouldn’t absorb into the cardstock.

I really like how the cut file I found from the scrapbook and cards today magazine blog, looks over the bright colors.

Lately I really have been trying to use more photos on my layouts. I find that I like the look of them smaller when I am using more than two. I use four in this layout. Angling them gives interest to them. I thought about whether I wanted to add paper behind them. In the end I decided against that so that the cut file could stand out. This was one of those times, I tried really hard not covering up the mixed media and cut file I had on the background.

These pictures are from a couple of weeks ago, when we took our girls to get their ears pierced. They had been asking lately to get them done. We had been out for doctors appts, and found a Walmart close by that did ear piercing. The girls were a little timid about the pain but in the end they did amazing and didn’t even shed any tears. The sight of their ears pierced definitely put a smile on their faces.

I placed three clusters of embellishments around the photos. I tried to stay close to the photos, so that the outside of the cut file wasn’t covered.

I used the same colors in each cluster so they matched in feeling.

The middle cluster I kept really simple.

This Pink Fresh Studio frame is the perfect place to put the journaling, when I actually write it in. Usually I am really good at doing my journaling before I take photos to my layouts. Not this time. Though I always make sure I add journaling before I put my layouts in protectors and in my albums. This way they are fully complete and I don’t flip through an album that isn’t finished. Plus I find it easier to remember what I want to write better when I finish my layout, than if I wait.

IMG_6226 (1)

For the title I used a question my daughter asked her Dad at the end of the night when she got her ears pierced. It was such a cute question. I thought this would be perfect for the layout. Also I always think I need to remember to write down the silly, cute things my kids say and then I rarely do. This was the perfect time to record that question and remember it.

I like mixing fonts for my titles. These gold thickers add a pretty aspect that I think goes with the feel of the layout too.

Here is what the full layout looks like.

It is definitely bold and fun just like my girls!!

I hope you have been enjoying our Stash kit series. I have been having a lot of fun trying to use my stash before I have to move. Next week I will be sharing what I have left from my kit and some other layouts I was able to make with my kit. Then we will be using a new kit. I will also be sharing my new kit too.

Here is my process video>

Here is a look at what Megan made with her kit!!

Have an inspired Week!!

For the love of birthday Pho

Last week I shared with you a new series Crafty Meggy and I are working on. I am so excited about this series, one I find when I do a series or challenge with a scrappy body I am more motivated to keep at it. I think it’s that it an accountability factor too.

This next layout I did end up picking out an extra 6×6 paper that matched my paper more. Though I am happy about the amount of paper I used on this layout in general too. I used a technique, or thing I do often. It’s as Tracie Claiborne (From The Scrap Gals) one off my go to designs. And I really love it, I think because by changing the size of the paper or even just the papers in general it really changes the look. My go to design is using strips of paper layered together. I generally like to use them layered under my photo, kind of like a photo mat.

I picked out colors that matched this photo I decided I wanted to use. I don’t generally match all my papers to the color of my photo. I couldn’t help it this time though. The bright colors in this picture just called out to me to be used in a bright way on my layout.

The yellow paper from Maggie Holmes Bloom, in my kit reminded me of the lemons in my bowl. The Pink Paislee Citrus Bliss green mimicked the greens in my Pho bowl too. The pops of color in the Pink Paislee C’est La Vie paper reminded my of that spoon. It was like the stars aligned just perfect to document this story.

This photo was taken on Sept 18th. My birthday. I am the worst at scrapbooking birthdays, I hate to admit it, but I really am. I think some of it is, almost always the pictures turn out horrible. And Really I think a part of me wants to enjoy whatever we are doing, opening gifts or blowing out candles. So I just don’t take many photos. I feel bad though, I mean I love birthdays, they are always fun. Growing up we always (and I mean ALWAYS) had a party to celebrate, the whole big family got together for birthdays. And then even on our birthday we got a special birthday meal. I feel bad we can’t always do this for our kids, for my little family because we are so far away from our immediate family.

Anyways I am getting sidetracked, aren’t I. Moving on. This picture is from my birthday. This year we decided to go out to dinner for my birthday without the kids. We have some amazing friends who can watch our kids from time to time, and our kids love it there and play with their children.  So going out without the kids in tow was actually possible this birthday, especially since we planned it.

I didn’t want to go anywhere fancy this year, I mean turning 32 isn’t a really big deal. It is another year. Not old, not young. I really wanted Pho. I really love Pho!! I mean I could eat it everyday for the rest of my life and be happy as a clam!! It’s so tasty and light and fresh and YUM!!

I wanted to scrapbook about this love, because maybe in ten years I will have a new love!! It’s bound to happen, I am a foodie loving person, I was almost going to be a chef at one point of my life.

(leaving lots of open white space gave me room to do all the journaling I needed!)

I love the look of these alphas by Seven Paper. The yellow mixed in the black just looks so cool!

IMG_5657 (1)

I love mixing the teals, blues and green embellishments. And I splattered watercolor at the end in these colors too. The look a little like confetti on the page.

These phrase stickers are really fun too. I made sure I scattered them throughout the layout.

I love all the texture from these strips of papers!!

I made sure to curl the ends of the papers so it would lift off the paper.

Here is how it looks together.

You can watch my process video here

I am really having fun with this kit. Even though Megan and I set out to do only three layouts with this kit, I am positive I will be able to get more done, which I will share in my Kill A Kit blogpost in two weeks.

Don’t forget to check out Megan’s Youtube Channel and process video for her second layout, with her kit. Remember her kit is a little different because we each made a kit from our own stash with the same recipe. I love this concept because you can add stuff you love, need to use and things that have been just sitting in your stash. Then we both have different looking kits too, even though we used the same paper as inspiration or start of our Kits.

I hope you have an inspired day!!

Aloha, Hannah

The Joys Of Flying: March Clique Kit layout

In February when I flew back home to New York, we had to book my flight at the last minute. I was so happy I could even get back to the mainland when I needed too. But it was crazy, the flights. Flying from Hawaii all the way to New York in itself is no simple feat. It’s a really long journey.

I had to make three connections across the country. There was definitely lots of walking, even almost running at points to make these connections. I don’t think I have ever walked so long to make connections in all the flying I have done to date. I was however so thankful that I had no children with me to hurry along. I was also just thankful to be heading back home to be with the ones I love and help be there for them.

I really wanted to make a layout about this crazy trip. Especially since it was so memorable, having to recheck in through the airport between some of my flights. plus this was the plane trip I was doing all by myself across the country, without friends or kids. There was definitely lots of coffee ingested too, some good and some just to stay awake.

I thought that the fun nature of the March Clique kit would be appropriate for documenting this layout. This kit was built around the Seven Paper Studio Calico collection Goldie by Ashley Goldberg. There was also elements of travel in this kit too.

I will say I thought I recorded this layout, but apparently didn’t or accidentally deleted the photo age. But I love that I still can share this layout with you.

I decided to change up the size. I do things like this on occasion just to switch things up, it gets my brain to have to think of things differently. I think it’s a good way to stretch your brain creatively. I did an 8 1/2 by 11 layout. It is much different than a 12×12 size, you really have to think about how you are using your space.

I also decided to use more photos on this layout. I tend to be ok with using just one photo most of the time. Seriously, I do. I know it does not help in using all your photos from a certain day or event. It makes it so that you need more albums to tell all the stories that you want to tell. But I have come to terms that I will tons of layouts, and albums. And I know my kids may hate that they have to deal with them, but it’s their history and if when I am gone they want to throw them away, at least they had the option to know all these stories I told for them. (I really want to talk about this more later, maybe another layout later, because going home I poured over family albums and was truly happy they were available to look at. To be able to listen to my grandmother retell the memories of these stories in the pictures. She doesn’t scrapbook but I seen where that seed was started and watered. But that is a whole new layout!!)

I really like the paper with the triangle sections. I really wanted to use this paper, and I though by having the photos in the center, or near the center, it would draw your eye to where all these triangles meet.

By placing the photos off skewed I thought it would help the layout feel a little chaotic, which is what the journaling is all about. All about this crazy trip. I mean showing up to the airport over 12 hours before it takes off because there was a big chance for freezing rain. I didn’t want to get stuck in the country on roads that didn’t get plowed until after I needed to be at the airport for check in. So hanging in the small airport all night was interesting, Thank goodness for Dunkin Donuts and a good book!! Or having to spend extra time in the air because of a storm, though I admit the clouds from this Southern Storm looked so cool!!

I also did my classic layering but made them larger papers and just had bits of those papers stick out.

I stuck many of the die cuts from this kit and January kit (It had Fancy Pants Designs Happy Place stuff in it). I used the wash strips to add bits without adding much bulk. The ALL THE COFFEE phrases strip was perfect for this coffee cup photo I had taken on the way to New York, While I waited in San Fran for the delayed flight. (This was one of the flights I had to recheck in, at 12 o’clock at night too.)

I used that paper clip from the crate paper on my layout too. I thought it added a fun touch. And isn’t that sequin heart so cute!! I could have used more of those on this layout, if I had more space.

I added that adventure cut apart on that tab. I even popped up this photo, to help separate the photos a bit, give fun lines, and add places to tuck in embellies.

(BYW, The Martian is one of my top book reads this year! Though I admit I couldn’t restrict watching the movie first on the second flight. I then bought the book at the third layover!!LOL. They are both equally good!!)

I had cut up that XO from one of the journaling cards from the add on paper pack from Photoplay. I just thought that looked perfect there. I added my journaling right on the background. I added the title above the photo/paper cluster. I like that it is a bit sarcastic. Though in the end I really didn’t mind all the craziness because I got to see my family and friends that I had’t seen in years. It really was just want I needed at the time, even though I didn’t know I needed it. I learned a lot about why I scrapbook and how I need to make and take the time to take photos that are going to capture the stories I live. The stories of my life and the ones I love to retell.

I hope you are inspired to think out of the box today!! Take some time, think about why you are creative, and if you are conveying the emotions, stories and feelings you want to when you do create. whether you just want to look at pretty pictures, whether you just want to remember the good times with the kids, whether you just want to observe life unfolding around you. Take the time to breathe it in, and see what you can do to recapture that on a scrapbook page, art journal, smash book, or whatever way you know how to get these stories out.

Aloha, Hannah

Day In The Life

Last week I did Day In The Life by Ali Edwards for the first time. In the fall time when everyone was doing A Week In The Life I watched with interest, but just couldn’t commit. I think the thought of taking pictures all week was a little intimidating. This year I will have switched to a much more story driven style of scrapbooking. I really have started thinking about the stories I want to tell with my layouts, the story of our live.

When I seen the talk about Day In The Life a couple of weeks ago, I started thinking if it was something I wanted to invest my time in. The more I thought about it the more fun it sounded like fun. I really hadn’t been doing project life this year, I honestly haven’t decided if I wanted to do it this year yet. Then the night before I finally decided that I was going to give it a try, at least taking pictures and start the journaling. I figured I could start it and see how I felt about it.

I am so glad I decided to do this. I really had fun looking through a different lens at what we do everyday. I am also glad my first time was on a normal day too. I now can’t wait until Week In The Life to do this on a bigger scale and get even more details, because there was definitely things left out that we do normally.

I took tons of photos, both with my iPhone and with my new DSLR camera too. I really wanted to get good photos, and I tried to think through the shots I was taking. This definitely made my day harder, as let’s face it, I am busy daily. But it was worth all the thinking and prepping too. I think next time I do this I will think through a plan too, just so I know maybe different times of the day that I know will be better to use my DSLR or my phone. This would be maybe because of light, busyness and things like that.

I learned a lot about our daily routine that I never even thought I would learn. I seen things that I never seen before. Mainly I really realized just how much I do each and every day!! I will talk a little more about these thinkings as I share my photos and a glimpse into our routine.

Here is a look into what the Lemieux Household looks like on a typical day:

Definitely not the picture perfect first photo I was hoping to get. But I think this is my favorite photo of the day. Probably because it is my favorite part of the day. Especially because it doesn’t always happen which is why it’s so special. when Ben gets home after PT in the morning he will come in to cuddle with me. I like waking up with his arms around me. It is a good way to start the day.

Ben has already left for work, and it’s time to pull myself out of bed. I admit it’s hard especially when my bed mate is being extremely lazy this morning!! Talk about being cozy!! (And just for the record he is halfway under the covers too)

Finally out of bed after a quick check on FB and Instagram. I know it’s a bad habit, but I can’t help myself. I like to see what is happening on the Mainland, what did I miss?! It was fun seeing the pics other scrappers were sharing of DITL.

I find the kids playing in their rooms, which is very normal, except thankfully there wasn’t to much fighting. That is often what I hear from down the hall. Not to fun, especially since I haven’t had coffee yet. I have to remind the kids it’s a school day and get dressed. It’s something we try to do everyday even though we are staying home to do school. I think it is important to start the day off with clean clothes and faces, that means bugging them to brush their teeth too!!

Time to head down stairs with the dog!! He hasn’t went pee yet which means he is acting all spaz like. He may not look like it but he is actually trying to play on Sam’s bed.

Yuck!! It’s chilly 74 degrees and raining!! But the dog needs to go pee. (I guess it looks like I am gonna have to mop today, because without fail Espo will track red mud into the house)

IMG_1230 copy.jpg

It’s breakfast time. The Kids are downstairs and STARVING!! (I swear it feels like they never ate dinner last night) Sam and Leilani pick out what cereal they want. Cheerios is the popular decision. Cayden like always in the morning still hasn’t made up her mind. She really isn’t a breakfast person, I think this is why she has a hard time deciding what she really wants.

IMG_1232 copy.jpg

Leilani realizes she doesn’t like the plain Cheerios. (she is already in a funky mood, I blame it on the chemo she used to have. She can get really emotional still sometimes. It makes me wonder if she will ever get out of this phase of whining about everything she doesn’t like.) Today I decide not to fight here and let her change her mind. I try not to do this but I still haven’t made coffee so she wins this morning. At least Cayden has finally decided what she wants!!

IMG_1233 copy

Finally I can get started on making myself coffee. Some mornings I make the kids wait until I make coffee before I get their breakfast. Today I did choose to wait, so really it is my own fault for not having coffee brewing earlier. But now I am thinking I may really need it. I get Cayden her breakfast of oatmeal, which requires the microwave. This gives me time to multitask. This should be called my middle name, because most days this is all I do!!

IMG_1234 copy

Getting down to business. My coffee is all brewed (Today I am drinking Dunkin, it’s a little piece that reminds me of back home.) Laptop is at the dining table. I like to set up there. I am going to check my emails (because I always have a tons) and get things situated to maybe blog. Today I need to work on a Crafty Maven Getaway blog post that I needed to do Sunday, but didn’t get too. I am trying this month to really start into the habit of doing something on my blog everyday, whether it is adding photos, back end stuff or actually writing a blog. I really want to get better about this. I admit I check FB now too. Another thing I want to work on, creating an atmosphere of creative talk on The Crafty Maven Getaway group. I really love getting to know all the scrappy ladies who are sharing.

Expo is stealing Ben’s shoes this morning. He does this a lot when Ben leaves his stinky sweaty PT shoes out. I think the dog knows I just want to enjoy my coffee without interruptions, so I will have to get up and focus on him. Thank goodness he is cute!!

IMG_1239 copy

Sam and Cayden are finishing up their breakfast, but Lani says she is full. She rests on the couch. The dog thinks he is safe from the shoe stealing so he lies with Lani to protect her. It’s his favorite place though, laying on the couch with whoever is there.

Lani tells me me she wishes she had her Furby. It was taken away before I got out of bed, because Daddy caught her calling her brother and sister stupid. We talk a little bit about name calling and how it makes us feel when someone else calls us bad names. How if we don’t like it then maybe we shouldn’t do it to others.

IMG_1240 copy.jpg

I am listening to a Vox with my scrappy friend Megan while working on the blog. Megan and I talk almost everyday. She has really become my best friend. I love how we can talk about scrappy stuff but also everyday real life stuff too. It helps me not feel so lonely, since most of my friends are on the Mainland. (this is one of the downfalls of being in the military and moving around a lot. Many of your friends are spread out across the country. It is one of those things I have just learned to deal with. They is a season for everything, right?!)

IMG_1242 copy

IMG_1243 copy

IMG_1244 (1) copy

It’s time to start school. I love homeschool and the freedom it gives us, if we want to start later in the day we can. Though I do try to keep a routine and start by 10 everyday. Other wise it will take us all day to get everything we need to do done. This morning the kid’s really don’t want to start school, we are just starting back up after 10days off. I am hoping today will go smoothly. I really don’t like it when I have to force the girls to do their work! Where is the fun in that?!

Lani wants to do math first so I let her. She is learning multiplication already. where has the time gone?! It really is almost the end of the school year and she will be finished with second grade. She has really improved this year!! It amazes me when I see all that she has learned.

Cayden is doing English. That girl can whiz through her lessons, I really have to slow her down so her lessons have time to sink in though. She is also learning about George Washington which she is mistaking for Abraham Lincoln, because she learned about him before break.LOL. Recently I am realizing how finally reading is easier for her. She is so smart but struggled a little with reading this year. It still however takes her for to do her writing exercises. I think it is just too easy for her.

IMG_1250 copy.jpg

Dog Shenanigans!! Espo is trying to bury a bone we got for him this weekend in the couch!! My cushions are all discombobulated!! Silly dog!

IMG_1247 copy

Stupid WordPress!! It’s giving me a hard time. I would be done with this post if my photos would just load up. I am thinking maybe i will just pour myself another cup of Joe and try again. Coffee fixes everything!!

It’s Lunchtime!! Sam is telling me he is STARVING again. I swear all he wants to do is eat these days. He must be going through a growth spurt or something!! Sam helps by getting me what he wants, his favorite lunch choice. Peanut Butter and Nutella sandwich.

Lani can’t decide what she wants to eat, so instead of just waited for her to make this decision. If I let her she would take a long time. I make her do her daily chore, put the dishes away from the dish washer. I figure this will give her some time to think, but at least it’s one less thing that needs to be done today.

While the kids are eating and playing. I take this time to make my bed. I really almost always feel better and more together when my bed is made. It isn’t always easy, the dog thinks it is some kind of fun game to try to unmake it when I am making it up.

I also start folding some clothes that need to get put away. I am always waiting until I need the basket to fold. I think Laundry is my nemesis or something. It just grows. and never ends!! I am hoping to get through most of what needs to be done today though. Then that means I will have a break for at least a day, for laundry at least. If i don’t finish it though, at least I can finish it tomorrow right?!!

To help the time go quicker I am listening to Megan on Vox. It helps get through this chore. Today I have a ton of messages. I feel so loved!!

I finish getting dressed. (yes that means I was in my PJs, but hey I didn’t have anywhere to go, so it’s all good. Even though I do kinda feel bad that I make my kids get dressed and still am in mine. It’s a double standard I know. Maybe I should change this) I put some make up on today. Some days I do and some I don’t, but today I am feeling like I should. I am noticing how much hair has fallen out lately, man having LUPUS sucks sometimes.

IMG_1252 copy

IMG_1253 copy

School Time Again. If I let the kids play to much we will never get started back up. Leilani is going to work on Spelling. She is really getting a good hang of spelling words right.

IMG_1254 copy

Sam is coloring while his sister do school. Sometimes he does some Pre School work sheets too. He is really bad about doing writing though, he just doesn’t like doing the same thing over and over even if he doesn’t remember the answer. I think it’s just at 4 years old he just wants to play instead of sit still.

I take this time to get another cup of coffee and myself some lunch. My tummy has been acting up a lot lately and I have been craving soups. I love this instant Pho, it has a bit of spice to it, but the liquid just hits the spot though. Yum Yum!! We are surprisingly staying on track today, which I am happy for.

IMG_1257 copy

Stalling is now occurring! Cayden is taking to long to bring the dog in (that is her chore, letting the dog in and out to go to the bathroom or play outside), So I have to encourage her to come back in. I know this is her way of saying she is done doing school for the day, the thing is she isn’t quite done yet. The dog re snuck out too, which means he is running around like a maniac. I notice just how fast the grass grew over the weekend. I need to remember to let Ben know he needs to mow, before housing calls to remind us. I am happy the sun is starting to come out now though!!

Uploading photos to my laptop and editing some photos to post to Instagram. I am trying to stay on top of all the photos I am going to be adding today. Journaling as I go. I think this is helping!! I have so much in front of me, it’s always like this lately too. I just move from thing to thing, it’s like I have ADD or something. My task is to stay on target to finish each task before starting a new one. But like a lot of moms I have learned to multitask. Cayden is the only one left finishing up school. She is finishing up her Math. She is almost always the last one done with school.

IMG_1261 copy

The kids are playing and it’s chore time for me. I am mopping the floor while listening to Scrap Gals. I might as well grow my scrappy brain when doing the things that need to get done around the house.

IMG_1262 copy

More Laundry!! I am still listening to the Scrap Gals!!

IMG_1268 copy

The kids are watching a little TV. They are loving Scooby Doo right now. We even bought them the old version, though they like the version from Netflix better!!

IMG_1271 copy

The dog has been so intrigued by my new camera lately!!

IMG_1273 copy

The dog loves people watching from our dining room. This usually involves lots of barking and jumping up the sliding glass door. I love the way his tail looks here as he starts to see someone walking on the other side of the fences.

IMG_5847 (1)

I make the kids turn off the TV. This usually makes the kids whine. They really like tv. Because it rained earlier our grass is all wet too, so the kids can’t play outside.

IMG_1275 copy

I need to wash the dishes. I have put it off until later today, because one I hate doing the dishes. Plus there isn’t to many pots and pans, so it could really wait. As i look ahead I see I forgot to water my basil the other day. It looks so sad. I should just use it up soon. I like using fresh herbs when I cook, and I love that I can have some inside.

I’m doing more laundry. I am not gonna lie I am sick of looking at laundry so there is no picture!!

Cayden and Sam have decided to play upstairs together. I like the quiet, so I let them, knowing there is a big chance they could get into a lot of trouble together upstairs.

Leilani is playing school with her My Little Ponies. She is getting so big, I love watching her play!!

5:14 pm

Time to start dinner. I also make some tea too, I have been starting to cough a lot from running back and forth doing laundry. I am hoping to kick this cold before it really it’s bad. While drinking my tea, I watch some Youtube Process Videos while folding the last of the laundry for today.

5:31 pm

Finished cooking dinner, Country Fried Steak with sausage country gravy and fried eggs. YUM!! I know it’s not really all that healthy at all, but it tastes so good. Plus it’s one of Ben’s favorite meals, and we gotta give Daddy some good food every once in a while.

The kids set the table as I get their plates situated. It looks so good, I am hungry!!

The kids are finishing dinner so Ben and I chill on the couch for a few minutes. Let’s take a selfie, I say!! We barely have photos of each other. So we take some selfies.

Ben is in charge of pressing the button. We apparently need 15 or so photos!!

Seriously Ben kept pressing the button. And I couldn’t help but to laugh.

I love when Ben is goofy and tries to make me laugh!!

Sam and Lani are still eating. Sam is trying to be a comedian so I won’t notice that he still hasn’t eaten enough food to get down from the table.

Letting the dog out. I love this time of the evening! I love how every night the sky can look so different. I could never get tired of looking at these mountains!!

Expo of course gets distracted and is hunting for geckos. This is his favorite pastime!! It always is so hard to get him to come in because he just wants to hunt.

Now it’s time to finish up some laundry and listen to Voxer. Megan has sent me some messages. I also have the kids start to get ready for bed.

We are starting something new in our house. Using beans to show the kids how doing there chores gets them points which turn into allowance.

Ben is explaining how this system will work. Each night with their vitamins the kids will get beans for doing their chores, behaving without whining and complaining. Each of them have a chance to each of getting an extra bean for doing something over what we ask.

It’s Bedtime. I tuck Sam in first. He is playing around like always.

Expo joins us on the bed.

Sam makes sure I hold his hands while we pray. He likes to repeat after me when I pray.

After hugs and kisses Sam looks so tired.

Time to pray and tuck in the girls. Cayden is rolling around in b=her bed. That kid just has a hard time sitting still.

I had to make Leilani put her book down to pray. She really just wanted to read. Lately when I get hugs from her she won’t let me kiss her. It’s just not cool anymore. So I make her give me a hug and kiss or I will kiss her. That usually helps. Tonight is no different.

I am wasting time on Facebook and Instagram. I also am FB messaging a scrappy YT friend. It is nice to have a few minutes to do nothing. Even though I do want to scrap.

Medicine time. I like to do my SUB Q medicine at night. I have to take benadryl with it so I don’t have an allergic reaction to my medicine.

My medicine (which is a blood product, it’s immune globulin. It basically the stuff that isn’t in my immune system) is all set up, in this funky looking pump. This pump will be my friend for the next hour or so. It has three needles that I had to insert into me. Once again having LUPUS and autoimmune illnesses suck, but I feel super lucky for modern discoveries and people who donate blood that can be used for medicine like this.

I was going to scrap but the dog is trying to round me up, to go upstairs. Ben is getting dessert and the dog also thinks he will get one!! Silly puppy! I think I will end up going upstairs. It has been a really busy day.

I am getting dessert. We have leftover ricotta pie from Easter. After I get pie, I am gonna relax with Ben.

Espo stole my spot in the bed!! Sneaky dog! It is a common thing to have to kick Espo off the bed so I can have my spot. We are going to watch NCIS tonight, one of the shows we really enjoy watching together.

(I am cheating with this photo because technically I took it before heading up to bed, But I still wanted to share it. I jotted down all of my thoughts and journaling, or starts of it, on this notepad all day. This really has made doing this project so much easier!!)

I take out my medicine needles and get all bandaid upped. I know that is so not a word too, but really I take out the small needles and put bandaids on the spots so the medicine doesn’t leak out before the spot has time to clot.

The reason I don’t have any more pictures, well i will be honest. I really try to turn off my phone at night. when I go into bed with my Hubby, that’s our time. I turn off my phone, I sometimes will read on my iPad after he falls asleep but I really try to give him my undivided attention for cuddle time with him. Since I spend a lot of time on social media and scrapping, I feel that sticking to this rule is important to us having a better and strong marriage. So I have no more pictures of the night.

After I hop into bed without being leashed to my medicine pump, I have taken my medicine and made a new cup of tea. I join my hubby, who at this point is almost sleeping. I tend to fall asleep fast now, because I started taking melatonin at night at the beginning of the year, because I wan’t sleeping. This really helps with my routine at night, getting all comfy and watching more NCIS.

Like I mentioned earlier I really loved doing this project!! I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much. I think journaling throughout the day as I was taking photos really helped it work. SO even though it took over a week to finish editing all my photos from the day, I still has my main thoughts recorded. When I do WITL i am definitely planning to do this. I will be making sure I plan ahead maybe for the busy times during the day or days where I know there is tons of stuff. If I can mentally plan for those times, I can still get good shots and pictures documenting those times without it taking a lot of thought.

I haven’t thought too much about what sizes I am printing these pictures off for the album I want to make, but really the hard work is all done right. I think journaling and having the pictures edited is what comes first.

I am really looking forward to doing WITL now too. There was so much stuff that didn’t get documented during this day, that I would love to include. things we still do every week or on a regular basis. SO This week I am taking the time to mark my calendar for WITL and start planning.

Doing DITL really has me thinking that I am not going to be doing project life at least this year. I really love the idea of doing DITL twice a year and a WITL during the year to see how our routines change over time. Because we homeschool and are home a lot of the time, I feel a lot of project life is taking photos of the same things all the time. But spanning them over a longer period of time really gives me a chance to see the change more easily.

I hope that this inspires you to think about how you document, and see if the way you do it, is working for you and why or why not. I hope you are inspired to look at your life in a different way, from a different angle.

Aloha, Hannah
