For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Round 3 Kit Share

Aloha!! I am super excited for another round of For The Love Of Homemade Kits!! It has been so much fun using up some of my stash and creating a kit from the fun and cool scrappy things I have collected.

For this series we start each round with an inspiration piece of pattern paper. This piece helps give us an idea of how to pick other pieces and patterns to form a kit. Because we each are using our own stash, each kit is different, but similar. (By we, I mean Crafty Meggy, Felicia Young and Khristina Sorge are working together to use our own kits this month.) We then use a recipe to help pick out papers and embellishments.

Let’s get right into the Recipe we are using this round. It’s a little different from the last one. (We felt it would be good to twist it a little.)

Inspiration Paper: Amy Tangerine Rise and Shine Lucy

Paper Recipe:

  • Bold Pattern Paper
  • Texture Pattern Paper (watercolor, woodgrain, fabric, etc)
  • Dot/Circle Pattern Paper
  • Freebie Pattern Paper

  • PinkFresh Studio Washi from their embellishment kit (there are two)
  • Amy Tangerine Better Together thin glitter washi
  • Shimelle Starshine Washi

Thread: White, mint green and pale yellow (it isn’t in the photo)

Stencils: Amy Tangerine 3×4 stencils and Studio Calico silk screens

Here is a look at the whole kit together.

I am super excited to jump in and use this kit. Don’t forget that I will be making four layouts with this kit (or more if I can) and sharing them in the next four weeks. Also check out the other ladies Kit Shares as well, they will be sharing them on their Youtube Channels.(I link have a link for them at the end of this post)

I also wanted to give a heads up that I am completely in the misted of a move. my stuff is getting packed and then I will be out of my house this week and next. I am hoping that all my layouts will be ready for Youtube by the time I leave, but they may not. So I will keep everyone updated on my new Facebook Page (which is like a blog on Facebook) what layouts will be in video forma and what will just have a blog. I am hoping to also in my moving process to be doing some Vlogs and fun stuff on my Channel. I hope you stay tuned for that, and lets hope that I have enough access to internet to upload my stuff to Youtube!!

Have a great and inspired week my scrappy Friends!!

Aloha, Hannah

For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Round 2 Kill a Kit

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! I can’t believe we finished another round of this series!! Crazy right?! I am having so much fun making and using these kits.

Here is what I started off with.

Here is all the paper I have left over from my kit.

I could probably get another layout or two out of this paper. I still have tons of embellishments and stickers left. I barely used the sticker sheets, this time.  I would have liked to have used my stamps more too, I think if I make another layout later I will try to use the stamps a little more.

Here are all the layouts i got done with this kit.

i love all the journaling on this layout!! And the story!! I think it’s one of my fave’s this year!

I love that I was able to use pictures that I took while taking an online class. It’s cool to incorporate the things I am learning in the classes I am taking.

This layout is about a whale watch my friend and I took in Boston when we were in college. I liked the idea of adding some older photos and try to make them feel more modern by adding some some trendy prints on the layout.

This layout is my last of this kit. I used two cut files for this, one for the back ground and one for the font. Both are from The Cut Shoppe. I did add that background paper to my kit, because it was perfect for the story I wanted to tell. Star gazing and looking for the planet Mars a couple of weeks ago. I kept this layout really simple and let the cut file and pictures be star in this layout.

Like I mentioned up above, with the paper and embellishments left over I could have done another one or two layouts. (if only I was n’t preparing to move!) I am really thinking of keeping a few of these paper scraps, like that flower pattern and come up with something pretty.

I really think doing this series is really helping me see the things I have and that I really enjoy using and the things I have that I use just because I got them in kits, or because I thought I needed it. Like those little phrase stickers from the I am collection from Simple Stories or the clear stickers from the Starshine Collection by Shimelle. I really think that from now on I am going to be making better buying decisions.

I am super excited to get started using my new kit too. I am going to be doing another post on our new recipe and my picks for this new kit.

Mix It Up Monday: Packing for a move or traveling

Aloha My Scrappy friends!! This Week I am up on The Crafty Maven Getaway. I am posting for Mix It Up Monday. basically this day is for cards, mini albums, projects that don’t fit into the other days on The Crafty Maven Getaway. Since I am moving soon, I thought it might be helpful to share how I am packing for my upcoming move.

As scrappers we like to be prepared. I think that is why there are tons of videos on packing for crops, organizing our scrap space. But what if you are moving and want to pack a few things to get you through until you have your space (and house) organized to fully scrap.

I don’t know about you but the thought of going 4 to 6 weeks without scrapbooking makes my eyes bug out! I start to stress thinking I won’t have my main form of distressing after a long week, or day. I knew I would have to pack some things to help me get through this move.

I am pretty limited on space though. And we are going to have to fly on a plane, which definitely makes things more difficult. I am only bring a small amount of liquids for this fact. I don’t want things to spill in my bag or on my other scrappy stuff. Basically I am only bringing a couple of 1 oz Heidi Swapp Color Shine bottles and a couple of watercolor brushes that you add the water to the barrel. I will pack my watercolor palette but that is it for mixed media type elements. This my make things tough for me, but when I get my stuff back I can pull those items out and use them again!!

I have some pre cut silhouette cut files with me too. This will help stretch my layouts more, and add some fun elements. I just spent a little extra time, mass cutting out files I thought I could use for future layouts. By cutting them on white card stock they should match with whatever papers I use too.

I also added to my 12×12 box (which is what I am using to hold my stuff) three scrapbooking kits. Two are my latest current Kit Club Kits (I subscribed to Clique Kits, Hip Kits and Ali Edwards Story Kit. Two of these I am stopping in May while I move. This will help me save money and help with mailing issues as I get situated in my new place.)

The third Kit is a Stash Kit that I put together for a stash kit series I am dong with Crafty Meggy and Felicia. These three kits should get me a decent amount of layouts. I figure I can make about 5 layouts at least with each kit. (My stash kit and Clique Kits I may even be able to make 7 with depending on my I use my paper.)

I added a 6×6 paper pad to add extra paper. I added two extra alpha’s one that had word phrases and a thicker that I barely used. I also have an old package from an embellishment kit I used to get. I am filling this with some random embellishments I think will go with my kits and papers I already have, I have some old Maggie Holmes die cuts, Pink Paislee die cuts, some phrase stickers from Pink Fresh Studio (summer themed), enamel dots, heart/circle stickers and some phrase flag cut outs and some small thread spools. These embellishments are thin and will add to my layouts without adding too much dimension.

This is something to think about, you have to store your layouts in the same container as your supplies. If you add tons of dimension this could ruin or squish your layouts as you travel. That wouldn’t be good. I am also bring an extra plastic patterned paper bag for adding my layouts in, while traveling. This will help things not get on my layouts, if intact something spills and if something falls off then I can find it quickly.

I added a pack of white card stock to the bottom of this 12×12 box. This will help with either matting photos or backgrounds for layouts. I like to use white card stock quite often. (my pack is 25 sheets, so this should be enough, to hold me through.)

Lastly I am packing a small pair of scissors, my trimmer, and my ATG tape runner. The trimmer and ATG tape runner will have to fit in my carry on. I will take the blade off the trimmer while flying.

This is how everything fits in my case. I have to remember that this will just have to be enough stuff. Whether it really is or not. I can make do, it is only 4 to 6 weeks right?!! Plus once I get to my new place I can pick up a few things if I really need them.

One last thing I want to remind you to take, or at least think about. When traveling, we tend to have less time than we think we will. I am trying to keep this in mind. I may think I need more than I really can use. While traveling and moving you will be busy doing lots of stuff. It’s ok to focus more on taking photos instead of scrapping.

Don’t forget to pack those chargers and cords!! I am taking my laptop, my iPad mini and my DSLR camera. I am not taking my snowball mic and my camera stand, I just don’t think I will have space. I am thinking I may need to take my external hard drive too though. We will see. All this stuff weighs or takes up space. this are things to think about when moving or traveling.

what are you going to use?! Make sure you are really packing things you know you will love and use. If you pack tons of stuff but don’t really love it you won’t use it. Pack what collections or kits you really love!! This could really be a good time to just use up those things you have been dying to use.

Also don’t forget to print up pictures ahead and take lots of photos to scrap. Either add pictures that match your kits, or photos that are black and white that can be used with any colors or patterns. This will help you get the most mileage out of the printed photos you do take. I have been printing photos since February to prepare for this move.

If you are planning on printing pictures as you go, bring an in tax printer or selfie printer. Make sure you have enough ink to print too. These printers are fun and you can scrap current photos. But don’t worry if you don’t have them either you can always take your sd card to a local walmart or walgreens and have photos printed out if you need too. Or get them ordered from a place online like shutter fly or persnickety prints. These are options so you can scrap current photos while on a long traveling session or while moving.

I am not taking my printer so I am thinking I may use the online photo printing option once I get settled and until I get my stuff. I do have tons of photos though, so it should get me by for a while.

Here is a look at my Mix It Up Video of what I added to my box!!

I hope this is helpful if you are moving or traveling!! I know everyone does things different, so if you have some cool pieces or nuggets of advice I would love to hear it!!  As things get packed up and I start actually move I will keep you all posted as well for things that worked and things that may not have worked!!

Have an Inspired Day!!

Week in the Life Lemieux Style: Monday

Aloha!! I am playing along this week with Ali Edwards and many others and participating in Week In The Life. As much as I thought I was prepared, reading and watching album shares. I wasn’t quite ready for this project. Maybe it was the National Scrapbooking Day Weekend Online Crops that I took part in, or maybe I was so excited about doing this project that, when life in all it’s craziness happened I wasn’t quite satisfied with how it was turning (is still turning) out. I will say I am reminding myself this week, that there will always be next year, it doesn’t have to be perfect, my pictures don’t have to be perfect. This project is about taking a look at our lives. The Ins and Outs. The comings and comings. The messiness of life, the boring parts of life. The things that have a way of changing in small ways and then years down the road your realize your life isn’t the same anymore.

I think about what my life was like three years ago and it was so different. All my children were under the age of four. It was business, and naps and baby talk and bottles. I would have never imagined all that would be my life today. And that is really why I want to do this project so much.

So enough of the gabbing and on with my Monday, because yes it has taken that much time to edit my photos. (I realized I don’t really have much time to do a lot of mass photo editing during the day. I also realize that I don’t need to use the awesome and cool templates Ali has in her store until after my week is done.) It’s document now and then record it later! That is the best advice I can give you!! That and keep a little notepad with you it really helps with recording times if you want or thoughts, and conversations you heard throughout the day!!

This is Monday!!

Monday This is Espo

Monday 920am

I literally wake up with a national scrapbooking day online crop hangover. I did 11 layouts over the weekend, hosted three google hangout sessions (that went for long periods of time) and chatted, posted and hung out online all weekend. It is a blast too!! But I was beat. This is how I felt!! Wanted to stay in bed all day. But we have school… So tie to get up.

Monday 1037am

The kitchen is a HOT MESS!! it’s so bad I didn’t even want to take pictures of it. Sink overflowing with dishes, floor needed to be swept, counters needed to be re washed. The is what happens when Momma takes the weekend off from major chores. My coffee had to wait until I did my (and Lani’s ) chores.

Monday 1045am

It’s nice to sit down at the table while the kids are playing upstairs hoping I will forget we have school. I let them play while I check Facebook, listen to Megan’s Voxer messages and drink some coffee.

Monday 1120am

I find Darth Vader in our laundry basket. It Monday and I try to do as much of our laundry then. This week there seems to be an overwhelming amount of it to fold. I wonder if Darth is actually causing my clothes to multiply or helping me destroy laundry?!

The kids have actually eaten breakfast and starting on school work. I am not gonna lie. We have about two weeks left of school, and the kids are ready to be done. Lots of stalling is going on.

MOnday 1142am

This darn dog!! He is stealing the kid’s toys AGAIN!! This is the second toy already this morning he has stolen. I really thinks he does it because he wants attention. It’s hard to focus on him when I have housework and school work to do. It’s annoying that he does this!! He has ruined many of things this year with this habit.

Monday 1158am

I get this message today from my Hubby. This is part of our conversation. I thought it was quite comical. He told me he was planning a date night tonight at home. And to think of Red. I start naming things that were Red.

Ben comes home for lunch, which normally doesn’t happen (I decided not to get any pictures of him since he wasn’t home long)

Lani is working on Math and Roman numerals and division. (How did she get so big?!!)

Monday 107pm

I’m making peanut butter and nutella sandwiches for lunch. That’s Sam and Cayden’s favorite kind of sandwiches. Lani prefers Salami and cheesy bread (she really doesn’t like crust).  This year I have also started switching out some of the foods we are eating to healthier choices. Things like natural peanut butter, raw honey, coconut oil, chia seeds and much more fruits and veggies. I really want to switch to even more homemade foods and less processed junk.

Monday 200pm

I made some smoothies today for my lunch. I always tend to make extras, so I share with the kids.

Monday 215pm

While the kids are doing their school and drinking smoothies I keep folding laundry.

Monday 119pm

The girls are stalling by showing me their boo boos. Cayden has a mark from Sam. And Lani pinched her finger in the door.  I am grateful for the fact that I can still help my kids feel better when they are hurt. I know soon there will be times this won’t be the case.

Monday 120pm

Monday 215pm

I let the dog out and notice my plumeria flower is getting ready to bloom soon. This makes me so happy, I was thinking that they may not be ready before we go. It has been pretty cloudy this spring and these flowers really like the sun.

Monday 240pm

Sam is playing planes in the living room while his sisters are doing school. It’s really hard for him to play without them. There are many days where I have to remind him not to bug them. The girls get easily distracted.

Monday 315pm

Dinner Prep for the kid’s. I am using the leftover ricotta, mushrooms and spinach from the calzones Ben made for Mother’s Day. He made lots of filling, and it was perfect for the manicotti shells I had in the pantry.

Monday 425pm

The laundry is mostly all folded now, this is all waiting to be brought up stairs.

Monday 435pm

The manicotti is ready to come out of the oven. It looks and smells so yummy.

Monday 546pm

Ben gets home late from work. Mostly because he stopped at the store to get these pretty roses. Flowers are rare, mostly because I would rather not spend the money on things that die so quick. It is nice for a change though.

Monday 551pm

Our date night theme is Red. these are the goodies Ben has brought home. It is nice that he is so romantic!! It makes me feel special after a long day of normal, boring housework.

Monday 650pm

Ben also bought me a cute outfit, in red (that didn’t fit me 🙁 I give him tons of credit though. He even looked in my dresser to try to figure out my size.) I took a shower and even shaved my legs!! I found this dress in my closet that was red, since I was trying to fit the theme, and my other outfit didn’t fit.

After getting ready I prayed with Sam, and Ben prayed with the girls. Our routine normally is that I pray with the kids Monday through Thursday, since Ben works during the week. Then on the weekend he prays with them.

Monday 733pm

Ben has the dinner table all ready to eat. It looks so nice!! Candles, wine, Crab cakes and Mussels. Ben pulls out the chair for me. We eat and talk. It is nice even though I know the kids are just upstairs going to bed. It still feels like it is just me and him. No phones, no distractions. (unless the kids come down stairs for something, which thankfully they don’t).

Ben puts dinner away and checks on the kids. The girls are still up.

Monday Movie 845pm

We watch the Martian downstairs. Ben knows this is one of my favorite books from this year, which is how he got the red theme idea from. We only rented the movie but after watching it we decided we need to buy it. It was really good, and better true to book.

We eat dessert while watching the movie, and it is perfect. I know they are cheaper cakes, but I the the little pepperidge farms cakes. So moist and tasty. Ben said it was to sweet for him.

After the movie we head upstairs and go to bed. It is getting late. We put in Jurassic Park World to fall asleep, instead of Bones or NCIS (which is our normal show). I kept my phone off and tried to stay unplugged. It is hard for me. But I think it is starting to be important for me to have times when I can unplug and be away from social media and spend time (quality time) with my family.

That was my Monday. Filled with highs and lows, good and bad, but overall a great day. I got things done around the house so it was more in order. At first I thought I wasn’t going to have enough pictures to show how our life, our routine but after writing this post up. Really looking at our day. It really shows how ours days are typically filled with good and crappy parts of the day.

Can’t wait to share with you my Tuesday!!

Aloha, Hannah

For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Camera Woman In The Mirror

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! It’s that time again, time to use my Homemade Stash Kit. This will be layout number 2 with this kit. To see what is in this kit click here.

I am really loving this kit too. The colors, so fun.

I was inspired by Ashley Horton this week. She used this Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello cut file, that she made for the April Hip Kit. She shared how she used in a recent Youtube process video.

I used my wood grain patterned paper (Maggie Holmes, Bloom, Lizzy) for the cursive Hello’s and then added under the Hello’s a dark Navy paper (Shimelle, Starshine, Hubble). I love how this cut file just pops on my page.

I really wanted to keep this layout simple. That seems to be a theme for me. I used quite a bit of thin strips of patterned paper and wash tape.

I really wanted to focus on the journaling and the photo. The photo I used is a self portrait, Me holding my camera in our outside sliding door. I love how I am reflecting as well as the big tree outside.

I love this concept of seeing me in the world around me.

I wrote tons of journaling too.

I love that I have a place to talk about the things that have influenced me to become a story teller, a scrapbooker, a documenter of my families journey!! I have always grew up having photos be a big part of my childhood. And not in the sense that pictures or cameras were always being used. I am sure they were used quite a lot, but the focus was more of the photos. I remember almost every time we had big get togethers at my grandmothers house we would pull out the photo albums and tell the stories of what or who were all in these photos. My grandmother would often tell us these stories like the picture was just taken, last month. Do you remember when .. And I was about three in the photo. I wish I could remember, but these stories have be engrained in me that it is almost like I do remember!!

I am so glad I can pass this down to my children. This need to take pics, have my focus be portrayed and be able to print and tel these stories to my kids so that they can remember too. It is a priceless gift. A friend as just telling me the other day of an aunt who died, that was a scrapbooker. She had left behind tons of scrapbooks with tons of pictures and memorabilia and stories. Stories that she had compiled since the 1950s. They were able to all sit back and relive all the great times they had as a family by sharing her scrapbooks with each other. This story is precious!! I hope I can leave this type of legacy for my family, the legacy of what good times we had as a family, the things we loved, they things we did together, who we were than and now. The legacy of pictures and stories of our lives.

The historian in me knows that the more you know about your past and what came before the easier it is to know who we are now, and who we want to become!! That is such a profound legacy to leave.

We all have our gifts, and I love that my family has helps give and engrain in me mine!! That I can use my camera to help tell my stories!!

The I am collection by Simple Stories was perfect for this layout.

And aren’t those Color Cast Design stars so cute!!

I also used some enamel dots and Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold to finish off my layout.

I love the way this whole layout turned out!! You can watch the process video here.

Don’t forget that Crafty Meggy and Felicia also have made and are sharing the second layout with their version of this homemade stash kit. By clicking on their names you you be directed to their Youtube Channel and process video.

Thanks for joining me today!! I hope you were inspired today!!

Also come back this week as I will be sharing my progress on Week In The Life.

For the love of Homemade Kits:Happy Ricotta Pie

Aloha Scrapbookers!! It’s Tuesday and do you know what that means?!! I am sharing another layout in my homemade stash kit series. We are using a new kit this week. the main inspiration paper is from the Maggie Holmes Shine Collection (Memento).

Here is a look at the new kit, just in case you didn’t see my post last week.

This week I thought I would jump right in and use the inspiration paper. When I seen that paper I already had a story in mind. I liked the idea of using the numbers from that sheet so I fussy cut them out. They really are symbolic of the years passing. That this is something that has happened a number of times.

I knew I would probably need tons of space to journal. This layout is really about the story. I kept it simple. I didn’t use lots of layers like I normally do. I also kept the embellishment clusters simple too.

I love how this frame looks over this picture of Ricotta pie.

I love the story i am telling with this layout. I really have found that story telling, on my layouts is becoming a big part of how I want to scrapbook. This layout is about Easter Ricotta Pie. growing up every year my mom and I made this pie. I stirred the Italian cream until my arm felt like it would fall off too. It just was tradition to make this pie for Easter. We only made it on Easter too. It is so yummy, with it’s sweet cherries and rich chocolate chips. We eat it cold, and for breakfast easter morning and for dessert in the late evening. My dad likes to be the official taste tester when it’s done cooking to make sure it’s perfect. (I think he just can’t wait until Easter Sunday morning to take a bit, though, he isn’t fooling me.)

My mom got the recipe from a family friend as a teenager, and she has made it so many times, she doesn’t even need the recipe. When I moved out in college, this was one of the recipes I HAD to have. I have been making it every Easter since I left home too. It just isn’t Easter if I don’t make it.

I love that now Cayden is starting to learn and help make our family tradition!! This year she helped stir the Italian cream (which is pretty much a very basic pudding). Her arm was getting tired, but it’s all part of the process. The pain is worth it, when you take a bite of this silky smooth pie.

The picture I am using is Cayden stirring the Italian cream. I made it black and white so that just the image was what you saw. Plus with all the color on the page, I think it looks better.

We had a stamp in our kit and I stamped hearts in the clusters. I love this simple little touch.

I also used splatters in each cluster, in colors that matched the numbers.

I built this cluster partially on top of the photo. I ended up adding different alpha’s. The white reminds me of ricotta though. The gold is a pretty touch and ties in with the other gold on the layout.

You can watch the process video below,

Don’t forget to check out Megan’s layout and video.

Also Felicia’s Layout and process video, who is joining Megan and me.

We will be back again next Tuesday with another layout from our second round of this Homemade Stash kit. I hope you are looking forward to it.

Have a great week!!

Let’s take a hike: Waimea Falls

Aloha My scrappy friends!!  As it draws closer to us leaving the island I have been adding places to this mental list of adventures I want to take and see. Hawaii is amazing, and has so many things to do and see. I want to visit them all so I can have a mental memory of them. Even if that’s not really practical!! Even if I should be starting to clean and organize.

I decided that once a week the kids and I would take one day a week to go on an adventure. See and do something here in Hawaii. Maybe re visit a place that was magical or visit a place we haven’t been yet. I am taking along my DSLR and capturing our adventures.

I will be sharing each week the adventures we went on and talking a little about the things we seen. Things we did. Revisiting and sharing just the photos from the day.

This past week I took the kids to Waimea Valley and Falls. It is a trail on the North Shore that used to be a living area for some of the local native Hawaiians. As you hike the trail you can go down other trails and see rock buildings and huts the Hawaiians built so many years. The trail eventually leads to a Waterfall that is fun for swimming. (We didn’t swim, since my kids are still quite little and I didn’t trust getting into the water with three kids barely knowing how to swim. The water did look refreshing though!!) The thing I really like about this hike is it’s fairly easy for kids, and there are tons of flowers and cool trees to see.

I didn’t really take pictures of the huts, though now looking through my photos I wished I had, but I will say with three small kids there is only so many pictures they would let me take… and this is where I share pictures I took of the kids waiting for me to take pictures.

waiting for mommy to stop taking photos

bored kids

Sam wasn’t too fond of the hike. He kinda whined the whole way, so stopping often was good and bad. At the end of the day though he said he wanted to go back. Go figure huh?!!

Along the trail there were glimpses of a stream. This stream is from all the rain water that flows down the mountain. The waterfall helps feed this stream.

Where the wild things are

Am I in a Jurassic Park moviecopy

It definitely made me feel like I was in the second Jurassic Park movie and any minute a dinosaur would be spotted drinking from the stream.

And birds

And bees

We even made friends with a local (chicken).

We took time to smell the roses (or should I say hibiscus)

The flowers along the way were really pretty though. Here are a few that caught my eye.

Yes that is the Waterfall in the background!!

The walk is about 3/4 of a mile.

It’s not really big, as far as what I think of as Hawaiian Waterfalls. The rocks and foliage around the waterfall really creates a cool atmosphere though.

There is just something cool about Mother Nature!!

We spotted this really cool looking tree along our hike!!

Bee on Sunflower

The Sunflowers were a fun treat. This bee is help pollinate the flowers, He visited each Sunflower in this cluster!!

These are one of the coolest flowers I seen along the way!! They are star shaped but the color is so pretty. There kinda look like mushrooms before they open up, don’t they!

After We finished hiking the kids got ice pops, because I am not gonna lie. It was getting hot!! It’s summer weather here and that Hawaiian sun can be bright!! After ice pops I stopped and took advantage that the shrimp trucks weren’t to far. IMG_6430

The Coconut Shrimp are my favorite!! Yummy!!

I hope you look forward to my next little day trip and mini adventure. (Though with all the photos I take and share it doesn’t quite seem mini does it?!!)

I can’t wait to share with you! Until next time,  Hannah
