For The Love Of Homemade Kits: At Dawn’s Early Light

Aloha Scrappers!! I wanted to make sure I remembered to share my For The Love Of Homemade Kits layouts I have been making with my current stash kit.

Us youtube ladies have been plugging along using our kits up. tomorrow, Tuesday is our last layout with this kit. Then we start a brand new kit.

I love the bold patterns in this kit I made, Which is inspired by Amy Tangerine, Finders Keepers. I decided it would be fun to cut out plus signs with all my patterns to impact.

I used all the patterns I used in my plus signs to layer behind my photo. This helps connects them on the layout.

I outlined all the plus signs so they would pop off the page.

I added some stamping to my photo, in the white space to draw your eye to my daughter and husband’s hands.

I also used a L design in a very loose way with my title going out from the photo to the right side of my layout. Having the Title start where their hands were also helped draw your eye there as well.

If there is one thing I wished I could change about this layout, it would be this. I wished I anted to glue my thickers down. I didn’t think before adding glue right to these thickers. This brand was especially un-sticky. Early is right on top of the black plus sign and I think if makes it look weird. It could me be nit picky so I am just letting it go.

I used arrows bringing moved back toward the photo. I probably didn’t need them but they were in my kit, so I did.

I added this Elle’s Studio journaling card in some open space on the right side of the layout.  I used a stamp set designed by Amy Tangerine for a class I took in Honolulu in August of 2015. I wanted to use this stamp because the race we went to go see was the Aloha Run in Honolulu.

I think this journaling card wasn’t needed but pin our kits we wanted to use journaling cards to use them up. It was a great place to have a special area for the journaling I wanted to tell on this layout. Which I know I could have wrote right on the background. And normally I do, and I wanted to try to do something a little different.

I used some washi tape around and a cork sticker. I kept the embellishments really light though. There is a lot going on from the patterns on this layout. I really didn’t want to overwhelm the layout.

This layout was really fun to make. This photo is so precious!! It really has sat in my photo pile way to long.

Here is the links for the other ladies on Youtube who have joined in with For The Love Of Homemade Kits. I hope you check out the layout they made for this second layout.

Picture It: Victoria Marie Facebook Group Online Crop Challenge

Hey my scrappy Friends!!! I hope you are ready for some Fun!! This weekend Victoria Marie is hosting an online Crop!! I love online crops! They are fun and it is nice and easier to plan to stay home and scrap all weekend then to pay to go out to a live crop (though those are fun too).

This weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday many ladies from the group will be hosting fun challenges to play along with all weekend. Monday all your layouts must be submitted in order to be entered to win a prize if there is one.

Here are the details to my Challenge Called Picture It. (It will be posted Friday night at 9pm CST In the Victoria Marie Facebook Group.)

This challenge is a combined game and layout challenge. In the hour of my challenge (9:00-10pm) I will be listing 3 separate groups of items. Each group will be named (i.e. Group A: ink pad, something blue, a liquid beverage, a punch, your favorite journaling utensil) You need to find those items and take a picture of them together. Post them in the comment section below with the name of the group. After all the groups have been announced (there will be 3) your task is to pick one of those groups and use those items on a layout. If there is something non scrappy in the group, it does not have to be on the layout. You may however take a picture of you consuming it while making your layout for extra points. When you post your layout picture make sure to say what group you used, and what your items were. You can get an entry for each step this challenge/game. Meaning, if you play the game and shared a picture you get an entry. If you post a picture of you consuming your non scrapping item while making your layout you get an entry. Then You get an entry for making a layout with one of the groups. Can’t wait to see what you find and create during this challenge!!
I will be offering a $15 gift card prize to the SpiegelMom Scraps Store to the winner. Drawing for the winner will be random.

Here Is the list I used to make my layout:

List Mojito:

  • Fav. Scrappy Munchie
  • Ink Pad
  • Something Aqua/Teal
  • Flair
  • newest scrappy purchase

Completed layout.

I love this house paper from Dear Lizzy. It is perfect for a layout about moving into a new house. It is one of my newest purchases and I absolutely love it. It’s so whimsy and fun.

I layered this clear acetate word with this die cut word from an old Dear Lizzy Paper. This stamp from Elle’s Studio is fun and adds some attention to that little cluster.

I added that same stamp throughout the layout.

I love how these photos and that journaling card looks layered.

I also added this Elle’s Studio tab stamp to the top layered papers. I choose one papers from the Wonder collection because it looked like boxes.

Look at how fun the papers look layered and with tons of edges. Since this layout is about how silly my brother is it matches the mood and tone I was trying to portray.

When I was thinking of something aqua, I thought of this date box by Elle’s Studio. I paired it with a Pink Fresh Studio house to make a cluster.

I love the pop of green that flair from Clique Kits adds to the photos. It also draws your how goofy y brother looks like in this photo!! Trying to squish done the packing paper into the box! He is a silly kind this brother of mine. I think he really just does things to make us laugh. He has always been the family comedian. This is the perfect memory to document when he came to visit me at my new house this August.

I Hope you come and check out the challenge and play along!! Have an inspiring weekend!!

For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Round 6 Kit Share

Aloha My Scrappy friends!! Can you believe we are starting another Round of For The Love Of Homemade Kits!!! This past month has just flown by, literally. School is starting, fall is in the air, my puppy is getting huge and we have already been in our new house for a whole month.

This month for our kits we are going to be using Amy Tangerine’s Finders Keepers ephemera pack as our inspiration to make our kits. This is the first time we are doing that. After a while it is actually hard to find older papers we all have, since we all have different tastes. Plus we thought it would be fun to change things up a little. You know I really liked using a die cut pack as the inspiration. It is really cool to see how we each interpreted the style to match our own.

We are still using a recipe to build our kits like before, which makes our kits similar in some ways but different because we are using our own stash, likes and leaving our dislike out of the mix.

Here is a look at the recipe we are using this month to build our kits.

FTLOHK: This Boy Totally Has Swagger

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! Happy Hump Day!! Today feels like a tuesday for me, having a monday holiday always throws me off my game. Throw in the Hubby’s new work schedule, new doctor appts this week and school starting this week too. It is super crazy and that’s just life, right?!

I am a little late in posting this layout and video, but I think you will agree that it was worth that wait.

I am loving the fun and bright colors in this new kit I made. (I have a blog post coming up later today sharing all that is in my homemade kit this round too.)

I was inspired by the plus paper from Amy Tangerine and this cute photo of my son wearing my brothers baseball hat!! He totally has swagger, with his button down shirt!! That boy knows how to look sharp!

I used a sketch from Citrus Twist to get me started.

Here is a look at my completed layout.

I ended up adding a few scrap papers from my desk on this layout to bring in some more black and white. And this blue paint splatters branding strip from a new Dear Lizzy Paper fits perfect on the layout too.

I love how this stamp really pops in this cluster!!

I outlined around my paper layers to draw your eye into the photo.

I kept the embellishing really simple this time. Using rub ons and black and white splatters ties all the neutral papers that I added to my page together too. I also used a journaling card instead of a second photo, which made my journaling stand out.

This title is so much fun!! I love the look of all the different fonts for an electric look!!

You can watch my process video here.

Hope you enjoyed this episode of For the love of homemade kits today!! I am loving doing this series and using up my stash! If you make a homemade stash kit with our recipe be sure to link or tag us so we can be inspired by your creations too!!

Have an inspired hump day!!

Scrap lift Saturday on The Crafty Maven

Aloha my scrappy friends!!

Fall is definitely on its way here today!! It’s a whole whopping 66 degrees here in Washington in the afternoon. Which means it’s probably not getting warmer today. But it’s a good day to wear fuzzy socks, drink a homemade pumpkin spice latte, and watch process videos!! Or at least that is what I am doing today.

I did want to let you know that today I am up over on The Crafty Maven Getaway Channel. I decided to scrap lift a Fancy Pants Design Team layout made by Nicole Nowosad. Even though I loved the hearts I decided to change it up and use scribble circle elements. I also rotated the layout so my circles were on the side instead of the bottom.

Here is a quick look at Nicole’s layout that I found on Pinterest.

Here is some sneaks of my layout and how it turned out.

I love the way this title looks with the different fonts cut from the silhouette.

I also used some mixed media on the background. It makes the layout feel more summery and creates interest behind the scribbles.

Her is a look at the whole layout.

You can watch the process video at The Crafty Maven Getaway here,

I hope you have a great summer!!!

Scrap Room Tour

Aloha!! I thought it would be fun to share my new scrap room. It is mostly organized the way I want it (for now at least) and then I will tweak it as I scrap more in it and see how things need to be re arranged.

This is a photo I took when we first moved in!! It’s all mine! When I first saw this room I knew it would be perfect for scrapbooking in. Lots of windows and natural light!! Amazing.

In our old place I didn’t have a room either, I scrapped in the living room. I had part of the room to store all my stuff. And then not all of it fit. (isn’t that how we scrapbookers are though we buy or have more than our space really should have)

It is glorious to have my own space, I can see the kids when they are in the yard playing. I can hear them in the living room. But I still have me space and it’s nice because I spend a lot of time in my room creating and watching youtube videos, or watching class videos on scrapbooking.

Now that we are mostly all settled in the new house, I really wanted to share my space. It still is quite small, but I like it that way. I have to be smart with the purchases I buy! I have to be smart with how I store my supplies.

Here is a picture of my crazy room, before I put the albums away and got it all organized!! Isn’t a little chaotic? I thought so. (I will admit though, most of this clutter is from the albums and layouts that needed to be put away)

This is what it looked like after I cleaned it up. Everything is within arms lengths reach while I am scrapping, which is nice!

Here is a more up close look at my window sill and desk. There were a few projects out, when I took this, but I feel like it gives a real look at what my desk looks like when I am creating and haven’t finished a layout or project. It is nice to be bale to leave it out knowing it won’t get touched, right?!

I also have a video on my YT Channel showing off my room and how things are stored right now. Things will probably get changed as I get using my room and i find out what works here and what doesn’t. That is the fun part of scrapping and having your own space, figuring out what works. How the space is organized and how much you use when it’s that way.

Thanks for stopping by!! Have an inspired week!!

Also I would love to here some fun tips on how you organize your space to be more productive!!

Labor Day Weekend Triple Blog Hop Sparklers Feltie Friday

Aloha My Scrappy friends!! I hope you are excited for this weekend!! In the US we celebrate Labor Day. Really here it’s another day to celebrate and grill, but we are trying to remember all those that work hard!! One last hooray before school and work and fall commitments start piling up.

I hope you are excited about joining us on this Labor Day Weekend Hop. We have some uber (yes I totally just used the word UBER!!) talented ladies joining us this weekend!! I mean, I feel a little starstruck even though I have been following them on social media for a while.

Like all hops, all you need to do is follow the line up, each day this weekend we will be sharing and showcasing tons of cool new products from the SpiegelMom Scraps store. Each day has a different themed product, like today is Feltie Friday!! Just leave a comment on each of the blogs and enjoy the ride of seeing tons of amazing projects!! (I will have the whole weekend line up listed at the end of this blog so you can follow along)

You should have come from Missy’s blog, (like OMG) I love everything about her layout don’t you?!! I am not sure I should even be allowed to follow her, but today is my lucky day I guess. And yours because you get to see tons of amazing stuff. Let’s get right to it!!

Today I felt like getting messy!! And boy, did I get messy.

Don’t you just want to lick this stuff?!! I wouldn’t remind it, I am sure it’s quite gross actually but these Dazzlers from Shimmerz Paints (in the SMS Store) are so creamy and dreamy looking just blobbed on plain white card stock. I love the texture you get just from spreading it with a palette knife, so that is all I did.

I will admit doing this technique, takes three times as long to dry. But it is so so worth it in the end. The dimension you get when it is dry is amazing!!

I also used a paint roller and add some blackberry Dina Wakley acrylic paint. It is a heavy body paint so it is nice and thick. It stands up well painting (or rolling I should say) over the dry dazzlers. It adds another layer of texture on the background that is just really cool!

Because my background is a little busy and full of color, as well as my photo, I wanted to keep my patterned paper layers pretty natural. I tried to stick with some black, whites, and grays for the layers.

I add banners in the layers to add a touch of color to the layers. there was lots of purple on the background and in my photo. I though just a few hints of purple throughout the layers and on my layout would help the purple pop.

I used lots of the new feltie hearts!! I think these are my new favorite embellishments!! I want to add them to everything. They are just so much fun.

They layer really easily too. They look so cool layered on top of the layered heart tag that I added to a glassine bag from the SMS store. I like the added texture but lightness that a glassine bag gives to layers.

I found that bow in my stash and it’s perfect for this layout. With a staple it adds the right amount of dimension and texture to finish off that top cluster.

I also painted some of my wood veneers before adding them to the layout. It helps so most of the purple elements are the same color. Not that it really matters in the end, but sometimes matching purples can be a little difficult. They can be so different, and I didn’t want it to distract from the photo.

I love this photo I took of my daughter. Playing with her legos. I took this photo on July 30, for Day In the Life, which is a project started by Ali Edwards. Basically it’s a project to document your day, what happens on a regular day in your life. This day for us was really special. It was our first full day in our new home.

We bought this lego kit for Cayden that day because we told the kids, if they were good while we had to live in a hotel room for two months, they could get a new toy when we moved in. The kids of course weren’t perfect, it’s hard living in a hotel room altogether for two whole months. But they were mostly good so as the mush parents we are, allowed them to get a new toy. (Because a new puppy just wasn’t enough)

Cayden had actually been asking for this particular lego set for almost a year and a half on and off. It’s pretty expensive and was really hard to find while we were in Hawaii and had never ended up getting it for her there. When looking at stores near our home, Cayden saw this dolphin cruiser lego set and boy was she very excited.

So we just had to get it for her. It is hard not to see the twinkle in a six years old eye of a toy they have been wanting to get for so long (it seems even longer when you are a little kid too). When she brought it home she worked all afternoon and evening on this cruiser and by the end of the night it was almost finished. It really only took her a full day putting it together, because she worked the next day for a little while finishing it up.

When she had the whole thing together she was even more excited too. It was the coolest toy she has ever owned, her words not mine ;). As a parent it is cool to see your child work hard to put something together all by them self. Knowing they are growing up and don’t even need your help.

Ok back to the layout. I journaled around the edges of the layout and around the photo layers. IMG_8913

I also added paint and dazzlers to this Dear Lizzy Watercolor word to help it tie into the layout.

I layered a few banners under it to match the top banners. Those felt hearts are really fun under the title too. I layered the gray felt hearts with the wood veneer and I really like the way that looks.

I finished the whole layout with Crushin’ On Purple sequins and some gold, black and tinsel Heidi Swapp color shine splatters. I made sure I splattered the gold on my photo (I really like the effect that gives) and on the purple wood veneer pieces.

Thanks for joining me today for this awesome Weekend Labor Day Hop. Felicia’s blog is next so I hope you continue and see her amazing layout using the felties!!

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!! Be Safe and enjoy the company of others and maybe even get some crafting done too!!

Sparklers Squads Unite Blog Hop

Aloha!! Can you believe it’s September already?!! This summer has flown by!! The kids are going back to school, pumpkin spice latte’s are now available and when I let the dog out to pee in the morning there is a nip in the air. Fall is on it’s way!!

I hope you are excited to join us today for the Sparkler’s DT Blog Hop. I know I say this everytime, but I love hops. I love that there is tons of inspiration all linked together.

You should have come from Sarah’s blog!! Wasn’t her project beautiful?!! I love her stuff, I just want to create after looking at whatever she is creating!!

For this blog hop you will only have one day to comment on everyone’s blogs to be entered into the drawing for the prize. And what is this prize, you may be asking? This month you have the chance to win a $10 store credit. Woot!! Who wouldn’t want $10 to spend on amazing sequins or felts, which are my new favorite things right now!!

I will have the links for the rest of the blog hop at the bottom of the post so you can continue on your way.

For this month Khristina has made some cut files to share. They are super cute and perfect for this time of year where we are going back to school. You can find them on the SpiegelMom Scraps Blog.

I wanted to do something a little different for this layout. I like to do that from time to time, switch things up. I decided to do two 6×12 layouts to document my photos about reading. I will put them in 6×12 protectors next to each other in my album.

I mostly used the same papers on each side so that they look like the belong together but changed a few things around so they looked different.

I have been loving tags lately. I can’t get enough of them!! I layered some manilla tags from the SpiegelMom Scraps store. They are nice and big so I just typed out some journalling from my computer and added it to my tags. It was a really fun way to journal and draw your eye to the tags.

I love how these cork hearts look on the layout!!

I added these metal clips for some added textures. Plus they remind me of bookmarks a little, so I had to use them. I also layered a glittered tag at the top. The hand drawn white hearts adds a nice homemade touch too.

Here is some more cork hearts and it’s perfect as another layer on the strips of paper. It also gives a nice shelf for the title and cut file Khristina made. I used a music notes patterned paper from Maggie Holmes Shine collection to cut out on with my Silhouette. It really plays while with this book type of theme.

Did you notice the stack of books, adorable!!

For the second side of my spread I started off with Kraft cardstock. I debated a while before I finally stuck with this decision. In the end I wanted each 6×12 sheet to be it’s own spread though. I wanted it to look like it stood alone as well as match the page next too it.

I wanted the photos to be the star focus on this part of the spread too. These are the books I read over the summer as we were moving and living in the hotel.

I used a tag next to each photo so I could write in the title of the book, even though you can mostly tell what books I was reading. Just in case I forget, I mean it is bound to happen one day right?!

Just like the other spread I used the same embellishments to match. This makes the layouts feel like the are the same without be to matchie.

I really like the look of the photos overlapping each other and I added foam under my photos to pop them up more for dimension.

Here is another one of those metal clips. I love that it had a heart too, so I could match hearts with other heart embellishments, like the cork and the puffy hearts from Fancy Pants Designs

I added a simple title to the top of this spread. I like the look of little title stickers but one work in round circles. It adds interest and draws your eye to the title. Then you know what this spread is all about.

I really like how this whole thing turned out. It was really fun to make and it told a bit of info about me and my interests this summer. I think this will be fun to go back to next year or the year later and see how my reading habits change. I also want to create another spread like this with the books my kids read this summer too.

Here is a picture of the whole thing together.
