Hannah’s Scrap Bin Series: Our Story

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!!

It’s February and I am finally starting to get my stuff in order. Finally. After being sick for a week, my husband working long hours all month, and just getting back into the groove after the holidays. I can say I am starting to get into what seems like a routine that is going to work for me, for now.

One of my big goals this year is to use up as many of my scraps as possible. I have been on a really big spending freeze the past 5 or so months. I want to use this freeze wisely and actually use up the stash I have let pile up. Like all those bits and pieces left over from old layouts I have made.

Last year I started a series where I used my scraps to make layouts. I used different types of inspiration to give me a jumping off point. I am trying out that series again.

In this layout I just made I looked through my scraps for pieces that had a love feel to them. I knew I wanted to scrap some old wedding photos. It was my 10 year wedding anniversary at the end of December and what a fun way to go down memory lane a bit than make some layouts.

(I actually ended up making two layouts with all the scraps I set aside. I will share photos from layout in another blog post.)

Here are some close up pictures of my finished layout.

IMG_2362

I love this layered look for the title. I took bits and pieces and layered them together. Them added some thickers to finish out the title.

IMG_2363

I kept this really simple. Focusing on getting scraps used up, and layering them nicely. I even fussy cut those hearts out of a scrap of Bella Blvd patterned paper.

IMG_2364

I added more hearts up at the top, to continue the theme of love throughout the whole layout.

IMG_2373

Finishing up with some gold and pink Heidi Shine just ties the whole layout together. I love the way it looks, scattered on the embellishments and the photos.

IMG_2370

Here is the finished layout. I finished the journaling later, and added it to the back. I really wanted the photos to be the focal point. We e is the process video  so young but so in love. And maybe a tad hungry too. It was fun to go back and take a look at all my old wedding photos after ten years.

Here is the process video for this layout. You can watch below and hear a bit of my thought process while I was putting this layout together.

I hope you are inspired! Inspired to go searching through your scraps and make something fun, beautiful and meaningful.

Have a great week!!

Also be sure to check out the SpiegelMom Scraps Blog to see the free cut file for February.

Let’s Take a look at what at the layout I made. 16386988_10154959204587392_9157558926389526117_n

Many of us on the team decided to use this sketch designed by Laura Whitaker for the Blog Hop month. This sketch was a really fun design.

IMG_2443

I paired this die cut cookie with other embellishments to form a cluster. I added one of the Accent Scrapbooking Flair badges in the cluster. I went with the dot one, because it reminded me of the chocolate chips in the picture. I also added some baker’s twine and a feltie heart to the cluster.

IMG_2444

I moved the title from the left side to under the photo. I thought it looked less connected to the photo by being there. I also used multiple fonts for the title too. I wanted it to reflect a youth like feeling.

IMG_2445

I used a gold doily on the left side of the photo under the embellishment cluster there. I added a tag with twine, a ticket stab, another flair badge that has more dots on it. I also mixed sticker hearts and a feltie heart. I really like how it highlights the layers I used under the photo.

IMG_2446

I started off by using a paintbrush to drop Shimmerz on the white cardstock for my background. I used Vibez Razzle-dazzle and Spritz Bamboo Leaf . This green and purple color combo inspired me and I knew I wanted to sequin mixes Razzleberry and All Natural.

IMG_2447

I layered lots of ephemera and chipboard together at the top of the photo. using twine in the tag, it helps tie all the clusters together. I also added hearts in each cluster. I love all the little details that I added that really gives that cluster some life.

IMG_2449

With sequins from Razzleberry and All natural that also helps tie everything together. I love the colorful dots from the patterned paper I added to the top of the layout too. I really tried to use dots throughout the layout. IMG_2454

I added the date under my photo. I used tile alphas across the bottom of the photo to mimic that feel you get with the banner from the sketch. I also used vellum on the bottom. I really wanted most of the ink Shimmerz splatters to show up. I thought the ink splatters coming through the vellum would look really cool.

I definitely love this photo of my daughter enjoying her birthday gift this year. She has wanted an Easy Bake Oven for a while, but we wanted to wait until the other kids were old enough that they knew the rules about baking. Leilani had so much fun playing with it all on her own. She told me after that she wants to be a baker. Of course I figure she will change her mind about her career multiple times before she gets older. It is however good seeing her learn and grow.

XOXO Easy Bake Oven

Here is the final layout. Other than wishing I had added ones for the journaling I am really pleased how this layout turned out. I loved the sketch, which really helped taking the struggle of coming up with a design all on my own. Also I really enjoyed using the Flair badges from Accent Scrapbooking. They were so fun.

SpiegelMom Scraps Revitalizing Old Supplies

Aloha my scrappy friends!!

Do you ever buy something and then it ends up sitting in your scrap room, staring at you mocking you, because you never use it?!

About two years ago I bought a big pack of Becky Higgins page protecters. Thinking I would use them, they still sit on my shelf. Mostly because I didn’t think about the fact that I might not use all of them because of the orientation.

Well If you head over to the SpiegelMom Scraps Blog then you can see what I decided to do with my extra protecters.

Here is a look at my Project Life.

To see close ups of the spreads go to the SpiegelMom Scraps blog.

Hope you are inspired this week to pull out some old supplies you have been stashing away and use them!!

If you head over to the SpiegelMom Scraps Store and use my code HANNAH15 you can get 15% off your order.

Beauty comes from within

This is the Sketch that inspired my layout.

15259185_10211865938990519_1282981339540046324_o.jpg

IMG_2145

I used a mix of fonts to make a fun title!!

IMG_2149

I used Cork Stars instead of snowflakes like on the sketch, to match the flair badge from the Cuts2Luv Shop. The badge I picked said You are beautiful.

IMG_2146

I only used one photo, but layered papers and big embellishment pieces across the layout instead of one long of paper.

IMG_2154

The cork stars in the SpiegelMom Scraps Store go perfect in the cut file of Stars I used designed by Irit Landraf for Hip Kits.

IMG_2151

I also scattered Mint Mocha Chip Sequins throughout my layout. The colors match really well with the Cute Girl Collection from Crate Paper.

Beauty comes from within props

Thanks so much! Now you’re off to Veronique’s blog. I know you’ll just love her project!

Happy New Year!!

IMG_2040Aloha My Scrappy Friends!!

I hope everyone has exciting and blessed things planned for this upcoming year!! I love how in the New Year you get this chance to reflect on the last year and things that worked and things that didn’t. Then we all make plans to change. Sometimes it sticks and sometimes it doesn’t.

This Year my plan is all about Focus. I have been thinking about the things I didn’t like that I made habits of and what I do to change, but for the better of my life. In all reality many of the habits, and things I did this past year weren’t really bad, and some not even really my fault. I did however let things be as they were many times.

I want to Focus on my family more. They are the ones I love, right?! These years with them at this age are going so fast. Before I know it they won’t be as big part of my daily life. I don’t want to look back and say I wish I enjoyed them more.

The hubby and I have made some family goals to help encourage this Focus on Family. like unplugged days once a week, monthly outings and some other goals that focus more on being together.

I want to Focus more in my scrap room. This one may seem odd, since I am pretty prolific as a scrapbooker. I have made lots of layouts on a regular basis. So many that I don’t have enough albums to fit them in. The true hard fact is, I spend a lot of time doing a whole lot of nothing in my scrap room.

This year I was lucky enough to get an actual room, more of a me space, not in the living. Close enough though that I can still see the comings and goings of my family. I seem to be more distracted in there though. I want to Focus on getting into a routine that encourages me to be productive while I am scrapbooking. I want to get back to playing music while scrapping, recording and editing my layouts and finishing a layout in one seamless session.

I have a few goals when it comes to scrapbooking, like spending more time working on The Crafty Maven Getaway and working on starting up classes later this year. Being productive and having a routine that works with the lifestyle and work flow we have now will make me just feel good.

I want to Focus on Relationships this year. I am a people person!! There are no ways around that. This past year I really have been in my own bubble. I see whats going on around me and I have some close friends, but I really want to work harder to keep in contact with the people that matter. I want to do some meet ups with local scrapbookers in my area. I want to message and call old friends I don’t keep in contact with as much as I would like. I also want to make and spend time with some newer friends in the area. I love the online community but I also need real relationships in person as well.

I want to Focus on decluttering this year. We still have a buttload of boxes in our garage that need a home. Whether is because we need shelves for all the books we own, or whether its old kids clothes we need to get rid of. We just have a lot of stuff. I want to try to get through most of it this year and start trying not to keep things we don’t need. Being in the military, we move on a regular basis and this past duty station we were bad about getting rid of old stuff, toy and clothes. I don’t want to go into another move (whenever that is) with a lot of un need amounts of things.

I want to Focus on Training our puppy more. She has grown so much in the time we have had her. She is very active and needs lots of exercise and I want to Focus more time to making sure she gets all that and start training her. I would love if eventually she is trained as a service dog for Sam. Since she has been with us since a puppy I think this would be a good goal for her. To help us recognize when Sam is too low or too high.

I want to Focus on my photo taking. I love pictures. I may at times take too many 😉 I want to take photos with more purpose. Practice taking shots that are fun and cool. I also want to get better at editing and keeping my photos organized. I have tons of pictures from the summer until now, that I advent went through because I am not printing photos at home. I need to change that.

I want to Focus on Clean eating and a more healthy eating style. Especially with my son being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes I know how important it is for us as a family to eat right. The past 4 or so years I have slowly changed some things about the way we eat. This year though has really hit home in how important this change needs to be made and a better incorporation of this healthy eating. That means less processed food. Way less. Especially in the morning and at dinner. I want to make more homemade sauces and carb friendly sides. This summer we are going to have a garden in our yard I want to use all that goodness and maybe even try my own at some canning. Buying more local produce and buying foods that help our bodies. Hopeful this will translate into some recipes for you readers too!!

What are some things you are doing this year to make your life better? More productive and more Creative? I hope that no matter what you are spending the time with those you’ve and focusing on the things that really matter to you. Whether you planned them or not!!

Happy New years my Friends I look forward to sharing so much with you this year!!

The Crafty Maven Stash It Monday

Aloha!!! It is my personal goal to blog more this year. I am very happy that last year I really up’ed the amount of posts I did and how I was more consistent, even while I was moving. I have some fun ideas for how I think I want to change my posts up a little more. Some it is because of choices I have made this year, and thinking outside of the box to tell my stories better. I really love having a story driven blog and layouts.

Not that I don’t like fun fluff layouts. Because I do, I love taking photos and often there is n’t much of a story behind that image except that it is pretty. I think I have some ideas for those kinds of pictures this year too.

Now that I am completely of topic, let’s reign you back in…. I want to share a layout I made for The Crafty Maven Getaway yesterday. If you didn’t realize, I am the creator of that channel. I love that there is a place where you can expect to see something inspiring every day or just about everyday.

The mood board this week is this,

14600792_308611692828618_431640192_o

It was created by Sara Scraps. I love that The Crafty Maven can inspires my peers in the community to be even more creative in different ways!!

This piece really inspired me this week. I love the colors and how they pop. I wanted that for my layout too. I wanted a big POP on my page.

One way I did that was to use a Black and White photo. IMG_2055

I love the story behind this photo too. My oldest daughter was in love with bees this summer. She was hoping to get the bees to meet her on the Bee Express. It was really cute. I love this age of discovery in my kids.

IMG_2052.jpg

On the bottom of the layout I layered some embellishments and papers to create some interest under the journaling.

IMG_2054.jpg

I collected lots of my die cuts and stickers that were similar colors. This kind of layout is a great way to layer and get rid of pieces that have been in my stash for a while.

IMG_2056

I added doodling along the whole layout in silver to match the silver in one of the branding strips I used on the layout. This helps tie things together.

Here is a look at the finished layout. I really love how it turned out.

IMG_2078.jpg

You can also watch the process video for The Crafty Maven Getaway Youtube Channel here.

Hope you come back later this week for some more inspiration!!

Have an inspired Week!!
