SpiegelMom Scraps May Blog Hop: Meet the Sparklers

Aloha!! We are starting a new month ad it is exciting!! Today on my blog I have something super special. I am joining in with all of the new SpiegelMom Scraps Design Team for a blog hop to get to know all the Sparklers. There are so may new and talented ladies on the Team this year. I can’t wait to get to know them!!

Like all of the first of the month blog hops, make sure you check out each blog post and comment for a chance to win a store credit of $20 from Jody. At the end of my post I will have the line up so you can follow along the hop and if you lose your way you can always come back here or the first post at the SpiegelMom Scraps Blog.

I am so thankful and excited to be apart of the Sparklers team again!! This team is so amazing and it really feels like I found my tribe being among all of them. I look forward to growing this year, learning this year and pushing myself even more this year. Trying some new things and perfecting more of the things I love to do as well.

This spring I really have felt called by media again. The fun you have when you get messy is like being a kid again. Saying that though my style has changed so much since I did a bunch of media a couple of years ago. It is all about playing and experimenting. Knowing not every thing is amazing but taking that knowledge and making something better the next time. Pushing the envelope of what feels comfortable. I love this growth in mixed media. You learn so much about yourself.

This Blog Hop is all about learning more about each other. I feel like doing mixed media requires you to bare your soul and put everything on the line. When it pays off it feels so good. But you also see the beauty in the journey that you take emotional as you create as well.

For this hop I wanted to create a currently type of spread. I am always thinking to myself that I want to do one, but rarely do it. Maybe it’s because I really have a hard time picking one thing that I have to love. I love so many things and always have so many answers. There is something though for taking a moment to say, this is where my mind is at right now. The real fact is next month’s right now won’t be the same.

I decided to use a Traveler’s Notebook as my canvas today.  It’s a mixed media Traveler’s Notebook that I have from past Sparkler Beth Soler’s Esty Store. It’s so nice and think, perfect far adding lots of media and heavy mediums.

I pulled out a bunch of new Shimmerz products that I have recently gotten from the SpiegelMom Scraps Store to use. I wanted to challenge myself and use sprays, paste-eez, and acri-tonez altogether.

I also printed out a huge Traveler’s Notebook page size picture of myself from Easter. I dressed up wearing an old dress I bought when we lived in Hawaii. It’s flowing and has tons of flowers and trebling markings on it. It’s perfect on a spring and summery day. I don’t really want to forget about Hawaii so I love that I can wear it and remember all the memories from walking on the beach with this dress on, or eating a nice dinner with my husband in it.

I started off using a 3×4 Amy Tan Stencil to draw triangles on the page. This stencil is my favorite stencil. I love to use my pen to outline the pattern and create a different look depending how I use it.

Next grabbed the Shimmerz Acri-tonez paint in Jade and painted swathes in a few different spots. This is a cool way to add something dramatic but in moderation. I add plus signs in copper acrylic paint with a silkscreen. The metallic color against the bright color of the Acri-tonez really makes the color pop off the page.

After adding more acrylic paint to the page, and a wood veneer piece I want to add to my page later, I pull out my stencil again. I use the same one and try to lie it up almost straight. I added some Shimmerz Coloringz in Pink Stilettos to some Salt of the Earth Shimmerz Paste-eez and applied it throughs the stencil. Some of the triangles in the paste-eez were right over the drawn triangles and some were slightly off of it. I really love the dimension from the paste-eez. I also added some paste-eez with my palette knife across the page.

I stamped around the page with an Ali Edwards Week In the Life Stamp and ink. The fact that it is imperfect is really fun and unique. I also added some die cut flowers and stickers from the Cocoa Vanilla Wild At Heart Collection. I am digging the colors in this collection right now. I am having a really hard problem not using that collection for everything I create on my desk right now.

I placed a bunch of Hey Kiddo Sequins throughout the spread. Those little magenta flowers are adorable. They also match perfectly with my dress.

I used a full size 3X8 size photo or so to fit the Traveler’s Notebook page. I wanted it to be all me. Adding that painted wood veneer piece really adds interest to my page. Also I really like to bulk up my pages. I really don’t let the fact that things are heavy or thick stop me.

To finish off my other side I added a die cut at the bottom of the page and a rubber charm with another die cut watercolor flower.

One of my new favorite tools is my gold mini DIY stapler. It’s gold, so that makes it awesome but also the little tiny staples add just the right amount of metal to projects. I just about use it every time I create now.

SMS page 2 footer

Now I did this super fun and beautiful page, but I still wanted to add a currently list of things I have been digging. I use a pocket page card from Citrus Twist, in the pocket page kits.

I did all my journaling on the card and attached it to the next page with a thin piece of washi tape. I added tape to both the front and back side so in the future I can flip the journaling card and add more journaling. I love this concept about Traveler’s Notebook and being able to keep adding things to the pages.

I also used a strip of patterned paper, a sticker and a die cut to the page to finish it. I kept it really simple but pretty.

SMS Full Footer2

Just in case if it’s a bit too hard to read my journaling, this is what I am currently loving!!

Loving: Mixed Media.. I have been itching to pull out my messy things and play. I also have been loving the Traveler’s Notebook size.

Reading: Rick Yancey, The Infinite Sea. This is book number 2 of the 5th Wave series. Even though it really has taken me forever to read it. I think because it is the second book it just isn’t as gripping as the first. There still is tons of character development. So I just keep reading little bits here and there. (I don’t ever have to worry about never picking up a book, so these periods where a hardly read. next month I could read 3 books in one month.) I have been enjoy the YA dystopian genre, it used to seen so far fetched.

Eating: Curries. I have been craving curries of all kinds, Thai green Curry. Tiki Masala. Peanut curry. Yum Yum. Now I am hungry and want some of that luxurious sauce and hearty potatoes and meat.

Drinking: COFFEE. This never changes. Its almost all I drink, besides water. Sometimes I will drink some coconut water when I am feeling dehydrated. I have also been thinking about Sun Tea, now that the sun is starting to come out. Being from New York and Upstate, I am a purist. Just Tea, no sugar. That is just how it is suppose to be. Though if you want to add fruit, I may be ok with that.

Where: (Geotag) Okay I am just gonna say, I am boring most of the time. I go now where and want to spend most of my time scrapping, even though I can’t because of chores and mom stuff. But I am really boring. I barley go places. LOL. Never thought that would be my life. Thank you introvert hubby, has slowly turned my into a introvert who wants to spend days at home doing nothing but reading, scrapping and watching netflix. I am however thinking about camping and hiking lately. I love that we live somewhere where I can do those things. I am hoping soon we can make a hiking or nature walk trip to Mt. Rainer or around close by.

Picture: I have been spending all weekend working on NSD stuff. I also have been finishing up WITL this past week. I haven’t actually been taking as many pictures as I would like, but then again we aren’t doing a ton of way special things so I just take pictures of things that warm my should or inspire me. I have been thinking maybe I should finish a DSLR class I bought last year. It’s never to late to keep learning.

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know me a bit more. I have enjoyed sharing a bit of myself each time I create a layout. Because really that is who I scrapbook for, telling my story. It just happens I have some amazing family members who show up a lot in my story and I love that too.

SpiegelMom Scraps April Blog Hop

Aloha My Scrappy friends!! Can you believe it’s April Already?!! I can’t, time is just flying by, and the days are starting to get longer and the air a bit less chillier. It feels like Spring here in The Pacific Northwest is finally on it’s way. Or at least today as I write this it is. The sun is warming the grass and the birds are chirping. Nature is coming alive.

You have probably found your way to my blog from Sarah’s blog. Isn’t her shaker so much fun?!! I am loving it and the colors.

Every month the SpiegelMom Scraps Design Team Meets up and joins in on a blog hop, sharing some stuff they are creating with their supplies. It’s always fun to check in with your friends and fave design team members. As a blog hopper, comment on all the blogs in the line up until April 3. Then April 5th Jody will announce a winner and they will receive a $10 store credit. Super awesome right?!

Down below my post you will be able to find the full lineup list so you can follow all the way through if you happen to get lost. Let’s get right to my layout, because that is why you are here right?!

This monthly scrappy friend and design team member Christy had a baby. A beautiful baby girl! I am so happy for her and her husband. Having a baby is such a fun and new experience each time.

Spring time always reminds me of births and rebirth of nature. The exclusive Spiegelmom Scraps Cut Files (which you can find of the Spiegelmom Scraps Blog) are perfect for this time of the year when many of us who are thinking about new beginnings. It has many sayings that about about babies too.

All of this makes me go down memory lane to the five, seven and eight years ago when I was lucky to have been giving the name of mother. It almost doesn’t even feel like all that long ago I was preparing for their arrivals and excited to see what they were going to look like.

Even though my journey to having children was quite easy and quick, It felt like forever in the moment. Maybe because I didn’t really know for a while what my future really would hold. I had always wanted to be a mother since a young child. It really was one of the only things I wanted to be. As a teen when I got quite sick and was dealing with all that stuff, my doctors told me they didn’t know what adult life would look like for me. At the age of 16 it was quite scary. My life really just begun. I wasn’t really ready to think about what it would be like to be an adult, even though at the time I couldn’t wait to grow up.

Looking back I realize what my doctors said was really based off of what they knew at the time (remember this was about 16 years ago) about my disease and illnesses. They didn’t know that with all the amazing research and medicine of the future would really make life so much better for people just like me fighting.

At that time though, I didn’t know if having kids would even be in the path for me. I do remember quite clearly hearing God say trust in him and I will get that family I really desired. So I lived that way, trusting God. That really is all we could ever do.

Years laters, I had been blessed with the children I had hoped and prayed for. With an amazing husband who walked through this journey with me, wanting the same things.

As life who have it, we ended up having two girls first. Which I wasn’t upset about at all. I was excited to seeing their friendship because of how close they were in age (they are about 17months apart). When my husband and I were thinking of names for all our kids, we went with meaning and what those names represented. Being Christian and growing up reading the Old Testament, I had a strong understanding that names have such a big impact of who we are and what people think about us. Our name really is part of our character.

After long talks, like couples have together we talked about what these names meant to us. Trying so hard to find the perfect name fit for all our children. The easiest names would be for our son, Samuel Isaac.

Just from my story and the fact that we wanted to work together in a ministry, the ministry of life or wherever God would lead us. Samuel and what he represented, How Hannah his mother wept and cried and begged God to give her a son, a baby. Someone to carry on the family line. God looked on her and smiled, and gave her a son. She then gave him back to God and his service and Samuel later became a great prophet and giver of advice for many great men in his time.

As with Isaac, he was the promised child of Abram who desired a family. God promised him ancestors as many as the Stars in the nighttime sky. Just like God promised me that things would work out for me, He did that for Abram and Sarai. That name seemed fitting for this son my Husband and I would have.

It’s a strong name, a name with meaning, and i know his life will have great purpose. Just like all people. I am honored to be the one to give my soothe tools he will need to conquer this world we live in. To bring peace, joy, encouragement and love to those around him.

I can’t wait to see this life of his evolve!!

So I made this layout.

SMS Our Baby Boy Staged

I was looking through old photos, which are so disorganized, but that is for another post, and found this jewel!!

It was perfect for the exclusive cut files. I choose the Baby Boy cut file and cut it out of white card stock. I attached it to my layout with stitching. I made three passes of my machine in a light mint green color.

I used the collection Little by Little from Shimelle. I love the little kid cartoon and spring feel. I thought it would go beautifully with my picture of Samuel, which happens to be the first set of images taken of him outside my tummy.

I added Feltie Clouds and Hearts throughout the layout. I love how they help with that whimsy look. Along with puffy stickers and wood buttons I added Let’s Be Mermaids Sequins around the embellishment clusters.

I kept my layers simple, by adding a few strips of paper around the layout. I also used the cut apart sheet with a lion and camera. The colors in this collection are so fun, and even though my son wasn’t born in the spring. I love the spring feel that is going on, because it reminds me of birth.

I added a doily up in top cluster for texture. only a little bit is sticking out, which I really like. It doesn’t make the layout seem to girlie. I really try to think about that with my son’s layout, even though I know it really doesn’t matter.

I also added a shipping tag (the top of it) at the bottom of my layout. I wanted to be able to connect the main part of the layout and flow all the way down. Even though I know I was adding quite a bit of journaling about Samuel’s name, I wanted something there. A tag with a feltie cloud was perfect.

I hop you enjoyed seeing my layout as well as this blog hop. Be sure to stop by Khristina’s blog next and leave a comment.

I also hope you keep your eyes peeled at the SpiegelMom Scraps blog for the upcoming Design Team Assignment for the following, I for one am curious who will dazzle us in the upcoming year with their sequin love!!

Be sure to check out the SpiegelMom Scraps Store, there are tons of spring themed/colored sequin mixes to purchases. There is also tons of new Shimmerz products!! If you use my code Hannah15 for a 15% discount.

Clique Kits March Blog Hop

I hope you are finding yourself warm surrounded by beauty today as you hop along with all the Clique Kits Design Team Members. (I don’t know about you but I am so ready for warmer weather. Of course coming from Hawaii this summer, this is my first real winter in 6 years. I am just not used to the concept of winter being more than a week, and I find it quite sad. The cold and I just don’t get along. Thanks Goodness for hot coffee because it has kept me company during many of these cold mornings!!)

You should have come from Reku’s Blog and I bet you learned so much about her!! Isn’t she so much fun?!!

I will make sure down below the Design Team Blog Hop Line Up is posted. That way if you happen to get lost you can find your way through the hop. I am really excited to get to know all the amazing ladies and crafters I will be working with this term.

I was just thinking about when I first started scrapbooking a little over three years ago, this February. I was so obsessed with consuming so much of the scrapbooking knowledge I could find throughout the social media online world. Back then I couldn’t watch enough Tracy Banks (Mercy Tiara), Irit, Sandy (Ohsnapgonzo), Lisa (Maggie Mylow), Jill Sprott, Shimelle and many other Two Peas ladies. I was so inspired by them that I just had to share the things I was making. I seriously just jumped into this scrapbooking world that I really didn’t know much about. It wasn’t long before I got immersed in the scrapbooking community sharing and learning and building relationships with so many scrapbookers. Many of these ladies still have made a big impact on me and how I scrap today.

Even today, three years later, I am still so in love with scrapbooking. I may not be infatuated with scrapbooking like when I first started, but I still hunger and crave to touch paper everyday. Though sometimes being an adult has to come first, scrapbooking has just become a part of me. I am a storytelling, memory keeper and family historian who uses pictures and paper to tell those stories. Some of these stories are big moments and some are just pretty little moments that remind me to stop and smell the roses.

I never even imagined three years ago that I would be able to be where I am now on this scrapbooking journey I am on. It’s an amazing wild and fun and awesome ride I am on and I am loving it. I am loving be inspired by the little things and the big things in my life!

Okay let’s get to know a little more about me with some fun little facts

  1. What is your Favorite color?    Right now I have been so inspired with teal and grey and a touch of pink. I am buying clothes these colors, organizing my scrap room these colors and I may be purchasing these colors more over other colors too. (Though I really just love all colors, it’s really hard to pick a fave color for all time 😉 )
  2. What is you favorite song right?  Since I scrap mostly listening to music I love this question. A few of my fave songs that get me moving on my play list are, ‘Empy Gold’ by Halsey, ‘Hurricane’ by MsMr, ‘Let Me Love You’ by Justin Bieber, and ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore” Charlie Puth . If I want to listen to some classics I will pull out some Hanson (This Time Around), The Who, and POD just to name a few. I think I will stop before I end up naming all the songs I love!!
  3. Who inspires me? This is a hard question, because I am inspired by so many people. My daughter, Leilani inspires me as she smiled and played through Chemo treatments. My friend Jenney inspires me as she lives with having to control the thoughts in her head that try to destroy her life. She has dealt with mental illness and I have seen her conquer and defeat it with grace and poise and in her own way, not taking no as answer. I am inspired by my grandmother who has been able to see and be a part of women having voices and choices. She stood up for herself and her family doing what she needed to without handouts and worked hard. She is one of the strongest people I know. People like Joan Of Arc inspire me, many years later we still hear about this young woman who wasn’t afraid to stay up for what she thought was right! She took on so many things and stood tall. She took that faith with her tis death, many people wouldn’t do that. When staring death in the face we tend to back down and she didn’t, she didn’t let anyone tell her what to believe. That fire, so inspires me!! I also am inspired by so many crafters that I have gotten to know these passed few years, ladies like Victoria Calvin, Jen Schow, Susie Fishburne are just a few strong women taking a stand for crafting their story and going back to others. Another Big inspiration is Amy Tan. (I will share a little more about this later with my layout)
  4. Favorite Book?  This year a few of my favorite books have been Gemina (Illuminea Series), The Martian and A Court of Thorns and Roses.
  5. Favorite Movie?  Of all time my favorite movies are Back to the Future, and I am actually going to pick a show that I watched this past fall, Containment.
  6. Favorite Snack? Umm is there a choice here, chocolate. Of any kind!! Pair that with a glass of wine and you are my new best friend 😉 HAHA, just joking, sort of. I really love chocolate and wine together combo.
  7. What is your favorite food?  Fried dough pizza. No Parmesan cheese! I don’t get it often. Actually I think my mom was the last one to make this for me. She used to make this for me on my birthday because I loved it so much. Oh man, now I am hungry.
  8. Where would you like to visit someday? I am a big family ancestry researcher. I would love to go to Germany and find where my Grandfather’s family came from before heading to Upstate New York. Plus Germany is just so pretty. My next second is a tour of England, Ireland and Scotland.
  9. Who got you into scrapbooking? My husband was the one who suggested it to me to try. He may now mildly regret asking me, if he had realized how much money I would spend. Though I know he is happy knowing I have something that is for me, plus it uses all those photos I take 😉
  10. Fave Manufacturer? I really love Crate Paper. I love the mix of vintage with a modern flair. (American Crafts is probably number two, because I really love Dear Lizzy and I adore Shimelle.) Though It really is hard to pick between companies and styles, because I like to mix things up.

Here a quite look at the layout I made for this Design Team Hop.

We were asked to make a layout that shared our styles and a bit about us.

I decided to pull out some mixed media, in the form of watercolors. I really love adding something colorful or playful on my layouts. I did a technique that is one of my favorites. I used a stencil with a pen and traced it to add a pattern on my background. On top of the watercolor it really looks striking. Paired with some Shimmerz Dazzlerz paste with a silkscreen, I get a unique background that you can’t just buy in the store.

I love that thought that I have something in my album that is unique and me on a page. Mixed media is more about what you feel in the moment. Mixing what flows from the paintbrush or palette with your emotions at the time, creates something different each time you come to your scrap desk.

I backed this on some Pink Fresh Studio pattern paper. I used lots of layers behind my photo. I added some foam in between the layers to create dimension and shadows in these layers. There is something fun about mixing and matching bits of paper and making them fit together to create something cohesive and beautiful.

I tucked in some ephemera, washi tape and stickers in the layers.

I mixed the fonts for the title so it would stand out. Plus it just says fun to me, and really I like to have fun when I am documenting my memories.

Take this layout, I am using a photo that I have been putting off scrapbooking. I think I wanted to make sure I had the “perfect” papers, embellishments and set up to tell this story. Which is definitely not how it works, right?! We can never have a perfect everything to tell a story except for right now. If it inspiring you right now, it should be told. Whether it’s a small moment in time from your life, like a flower from your garden, a fallen leaf with frost or the lego toy your son put together on his own. It could be big moments, like when your child gets married, telling the story about aunt’s passing and how that brought your family together, or your Childhood best friend. All these memories, pictures and stories are perfect the minute they come to mind.

I seen this photo of Amy Tan and I. This day I knew it was time to scrap it. It makes me smile. I remember the breezy drive down H1 to get into downtown Honolulu. I remember seeing many familiar faces and many new faces, from the last time meeting in this conference room. I remember see Amy in that flows dress watching her son playing on the floor with his cars, smiling. I remember so much from that afternoon just from looking at that photo. These things are things I don’t want to forget.

Taking a class with Amy Tan is amazing. She just leaks inspiration and passion. When I see what she does and how crafting really is everything to her, I think, I want to be just like her when I grow up!! I want others around me to be inspired to tell their stories when they look at the things I share. When I talk with them and I tell my story, I want them to feel that passion for getting these moments that mean so much to us down on paper, however that looks to them.

Taking those two classes were so worth the money I paid. I left feeling refreshed and ready to keep sharing. Ready to keep crafting and being creative. I love that Amy really pulls this out of those around her.

If there is one thing I am sad about leaving Hawaii, is the fact I won’t be able to take classes with her there. Hopefully I will get the chance to see her again and borrow a little more of her enthusiasm for story telling and staying creative.

I am so super excited to share this layout with you today. This might just be one of my favorite layouts I have made this year, but even collectively.

SMS Creative Scrappers Product Swap

This summer in the process of our move from Hawaii to Washington State our family did some fun outings to pass the time and have some time together. Being in a hotel for a little over a month we needed to get out and do something fun.

One of the things we decided to do was visit one of the local towns and train museums. We were able to actually ride a railroad train to the buildings where the lumbar and train workers lived and worked few weeks and months at a time.

IMG_3069I love history so for me I was in heaven, seeing all the replicated housing and the train building where they fixed and worked on the train parts to keep the train working to transport the lumber to the coast where it would connect to other parts of the railroad at the time.

My kids were in heaven because they LOVE trains!! They were in awe to be able to ride in one, to climb up the steps of the train. They loved looking at the window and watching the world pass by as the steam train blew it’s whistle.

The only thing that was a bit sad was that because of all the clouds in the distance the view of Mt. Rainer (which is only about 10 or so miles away from us) wasn’t clear. You really could only see glimpses of the grandeur mountain and volcano. I actually hope this coming summer we can go back out there to see Mt. Rainer up close and take this train ride out again, just was the views along the way.

All this spurred this layout, which ended up having a mind of it’s own. I was only planning on doing a 12×12 layout in this sitting. Then maybe do another layout later with some other photos and tell some different stories from this day or of our life with them. I love that when given the chance scrapbooking can become it’s own force. It grows and becomes much more than we could even imagine, and in these moments I find I get lost in the process and grow so much from it. I also tend to love these layouts so much more as well.

I started off with a really big image of the train. I think it was around  8x 10 in size. I also used this time to print off many smaller 2×3 size images from this day. My thought was to use 5 of these smaller photos at the bottom of the big photo.

This is when it become apparent that I was’t going to have much room for journaling of any embellishments to tell this story. I didn’t really want to cover up much of the images. I wanted to have enough space so you could actual take in what was in these photos. Many of them are some of my favorite images I have taken with my DSLR.

In came in the second side of this layout. I added a few more images I had printed off and put off to the side thinking I wasn’t going to use on this layout. I guess they were calling out to me to be used!!

One other thing I knew I wanted to try was to make some shakers. One of the things I received from Creative Embellishments was a pack of different size circles cut in chipboard. They reminded me of the wheels of the train on the railroad track. I thought these would be a fun place to contain sequin shakers. What isn’t more fun than a train wheel filled with sequins?! I used some old acetate cut a parts from my stash as the cover of the shakers. I filled the circles with some new March Release sequins, Pandora’s Ombre and Green Acres. I knew these colors would really compliment the colors throughout this layout. Because these pictures were taken in June everything out here was so green and full of life and color.

Making these shakers were definitely a labor of love. Figuring out the best glue because of the clear acetate was really difficult. These shakers took over a day to get right. They are so worth it though. I absolutely love how they turned out. I was surprised that you can barely see the glue I used last. I ended up using the red line AC double sided tape. I cut it in half and used lots of small pieces to have a really good seal all the way around the shakers. I know if I had used vellum or a glassine bag I might have not had a hard time with the glue and fit, but I am so glad I used the manly clear acetate. You really can see the colors on these sequins in the circles. They really add to the layout and provide a fun embellishment without having a lot of pieces .

Of course I added more layers of embellishments throughout the layout. I used the SpiegelMom Scraps Cork Stars throughout the layout as well. I really enjoy these stars. I love the texture they add, and really brings a bit of nature into the layout. Adhering them with staples brings in the metal that I think of with the Railroad train and tracks.

As well as using the Creative Embellishments Circles with sequins, I also added a few around the layout bare. I found that the wooden buttons fit in them nicely and looked playful.

I used lots of tickets throughout my layout as embellishments since we needed a ticket to get on the train. I really tried to think of these types of aspects when putting together my layout. I think it helps tie that layout together better and more cohesive which is really important when you are doing a double page spread.

I hope this layout has inspired to think outside the box and try to let the layout tell you where it’s going while making it. Also to not be afraid because it is going in a direction that you didn’t expect!!

I also have a process video for this layout, Which you can check out down below!

Now don’t forget to check out Heather’s blog. I can’t wait to see what see has made for this product swap! I am sure it will be stunning!!

Here is the list of all the crafters joining in on this SpiegelMom Scraps and Creative Embellishments Product Swap blog hop. If you comment along you will be entered into the giveaway.

SpiegelMom Scraps February Team Up with Accent Scrapbooking and Blog Hop

Aloha!! I hope you are looking for a treat today!! The SpiegelMom Scraps Design Team is Teaming up with Accent Scrapbooking.  I hope you click on the link and check out all the cool things they have in their store like awesome flair badges.

I am super excited to show you today what I made with the products from Accent Scrapbooking. I hope after you look at my work you continue on with the hop (and comment along the way too) and see how all the Sparklers have used the products from Accent Scrapbooking and SpiegelMom Scraps. I will have the line up at the end of my post so you can continue the hop if you happen to get lost. Like I mentioned be sure to comment on all the blog posts for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate  prize. Also be sure to check out the SpiegelMom Scraps Blog to see the free cut file for February.

Let’s Take a look at what at the layout I made. 16386988_10154959204587392_9157558926389526117_n

Many of us on the team decided to use this sketch designed by Laura Whitaker for the Blog Hop month. This sketch was a really fun design.

I paired this die cut cookie with other embellishments to form a cluster. I added one of the Accent Scrapbooking Flair badges in the cluster. I went with the dot one, because it reminded me of the chocolate chips in the picture. I also added some baker’s twine and a feltie heart to the cluster.

I moved the title from the left side to under the photo. I thought it looked less connected to the photo by being there. I also used multiple fonts for the title too. I wanted it to reflect a youth like feeling.

I used a gold doily on the left side of the photo under the embellishment cluster there. I added a tag with twine, a ticket stab, another flair badge that has more dots on it. I also mixed sticker hearts and a feltie heart. I really like how it highlights the layers I used under the photo.

I started off by using a paintbrush to drop Shimmerz on the white cardstock for my background. I used Vibez Razzle-dazzle and Spritz Bamboo Leaf . This green and purple color combo inspired me and I knew I wanted to sequin mixes Razzleberry and All Natural.

I layered lots of ephemera and chipboard together at the top of the photo. using twine in the tag, it helps tie all the clusters together. I also added hearts in each cluster. I love all the little details that I added that really gives that cluster some life.

With sequins from Razzleberry and All natural that also helps tie everything together. I love the colorful dots from the patterned paper I added to the top of the layout too. I really tried to use dots throughout the layout. IMG_2454

I added the date under my photo. I used tile alphas across the bottom of the photo to mimic that feel you get with the banner from the sketch. I also used vellum on the bottom. I really wanted most of the ink Shimmerz splatters to show up. I thought the ink splatters coming through the vellum would look really cool.

I definitely love this photo of my daughter enjoying her birthday gift this year. She has wanted an Easy Bake Oven for a while, but we wanted to wait until the other kids were old enough that they knew the rules about baking. Leilani had so much fun playing with it all on her own. She told me after that she wants to be a baker. Of course I figure she will change her mind about her career multiple times before she gets older. It is however good seeing her learn and grow.

XOXO Easy Bake Oven

Here is the final layout. Other than wishing I had added ones for the journaling I am really pleased how this layout turned out. I loved the sketch, which really helped taking the struggle of coming up with a design all on my own. Also I really enjoyed using the Flair badges from Accent Scrapbooking. They were so fun.

I hope you enjoy what I’ve created for you today and enjoy the rest of the hop! Remember to leave comments on all the designers blogs to be entered to win a couple fabulous prizes from each company!

Here is the layout I created for you today.

Beauty comes from within

This is the Sketch that inspired my layout.

I used a mix of fonts to make a fun title!!

I used Cork Stars instead of snowflakes like on the sketch, to match the flair badge from the Cuts2Luv Shop. The badge I picked said You are beautiful.

I only used one photo, but layered papers and big embellishment pieces across the layout instead of one long of paper.

The cork stars in the SpiegelMom Scraps Store go perfect in the cut file of Stars I used designed by Irit Landraf for Hip Kits.

I also scattered Mint Mocha Chip Sequins throughout my layout. The colors match really well with the Cute Girl Collection from Crate Paper.

Beauty comes from within props

Thanks so much! Now you’re off to Veronique’s blog. I know you’ll just love her project!

SpiegelMom Scraps November Blog Hop

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! It is the beginning of the month again!! I know I say this all the time, but I am always amazed at how fast this time of the year goes. Before we know it it will be holiday season, with christmas around the corner.

Even though it often flies by quickly I love blog hop time. I love revisiting my friends blogs and catching up on what they have been creating within the month. I often will look through their blog and see all the goodness they have been sharing. This team I am on, the Spiegel Mom Scraps team is so inspiring. They encourage me to keep pushing and striving to be more creative each month. I love that about our group!!

I hope you feel the same way as you are hopping along this month, inspired to go create something beautiful and meaningful to your life and family. Whether you are a family of one, ten or in between.

Lets move along on this hop, shall we. Don’t forget that I have the list of the ladies joining in on the hop this month, if you at all get lost along the way. You should have come from Sarah’s blog! Isn’t her work so pretty?!

This month I am going to be sharing tons of 8 1/2 x 11 layouts for my Cozy Album I am working on. I am making layouts of tons of things we do in this holiday and winter season that pertain to cozy. I want to add lots of recipes and it to have more of that homey old style scrapbook feel.

Today I am sharing a layout a made about Christmas wreaths. For the past six years we have lived in a place that was much warmer in temperature for Christmas. It’s just how it is there. No changing it. My kids really don’t think anything about it. It is all they know. But my husband and I grew up in the east. I am from upstate New York, and christmas time is most usually cold and maybe even snowy.

There is something about a christmas wreath that means snow, chilly fingers, and the smell of evergreen in the air. It makes Christmas time come alive. Since we have been married I have have some kind of wreath hanging up around the holidays. This is my favorite time of the year. I think it’s all the cheer, and memories I had growing up. It’s fun.

When we were in Hawaii I started buying real evergreen bough wreaths to put on top of our table. At the beginning of the holiday season you could get them at the local commissary. It was the only way to get that real christmas feel. It might have been a little more money than I wanted to spend for evergreen limbs, that really weren’t all that impressive looking. But I wanted the kids to have a little bit of what I grew up with in terms of memories of the holiday season.

This is the perfect type of story or thing to add to my album. Something we can look back on and say, this is why mom did this or where that tradition started. This year I hope to actually cut a Blue Spruce Limb off our tree to use for the table. I am looking forward to that fresh pine smell and the color of the fresh cut pine well be so vibrant.

I bordered my 8 1/2 x 11 layout with a newsprint paper to give it a vintage feel. I also pulled out my Christmas stuff to give the layout that holiday spirit feel. The deep rich colors of the Shimelle Christmas paper are perfect.

I used a big shipping tag from the Spiegel Mom Scraps store as a layer. It also was a great place for stamping a title with tile alphabet stamps. I used an old Scraptastic Stamp Set that had some branches and leaves on it. The stamp adds details to the layout without being really heavy. I added a red bow to the top of the tag.

Each layout in this album has leaves on it. I love that this is something I am doing throughout my album. I used a silhouette cut gingham and newsprint leaves this layout. It adds to the holiday feel. And I love the texture the layered leaves add. The ends of the leaves curl up which are great when layering them. It gives places to tuck things into. I added some red and white twine around the bottom of the photo and the layered leaves. It makes me think of a homemade package tied with a bow.

The crisp white from the doily helps lights up the layout. I like the way a little white helps the layout not seem so dark because of all the rich colors of green and red. I also added some phrase stickers with holiday sayings on them around the layout.

This phrase sticker is tucked under the leave at the top with a wood button. The wood helps make the layout feel more natural.

I used the new sequins that Jody added to the Spiegel Mom Scraps Store, Holly Berries. I love the stars mixed in with the greens and red round sequins.

Here is a look at the whole layout.

World Card Making Day Inspiration Blog Hop For SpiegelMom Scraps

Aloha Scrappers!!

It is World Card making Day today. I hope you grab some cardstock, patterned paper, die cuts and cute embellies. Make some cards as you hop along with the SpiegelMom Scraps design team today. We are all making some cards to inspire you. I hope you enjoy it.

Also use the hashtag #smswc2016 on instgram sharing the cards you are making for world making card day and you will be entered to win a prize.

You should have come over from Sarah’s blog. Isn’t her cards so beautiful?!! If you came to visit my site welcome and enjoy. You can follow the hop by either clicking on the link in the hop list (at the end of my post is a list of blogs in the hop) Also by clicking Khristina’s name after you have read through and looked at my cards.

I normally don’t make cards often. I love the way a homemade card looks when they are all done and ready to send out. Who doesn’t love getting something in the mail too?! I love the thoughtfulness of what a card means too. Yet I still forget to make them often. Thank goodness for a day like World Card Making Day to remind me to pull out some scraps and make a few extra special cards for some extra special people in my life!!

To get started decided to use a creative scrappers sketch. I thought it would be fun to use a sketch for a card. Especially since I don’t think I am really all that great at making cards. Using sketches or pinterest are such a big help. They get my creative juices flowing and I enjoy the process of making cards so much more.

Because this sketch is designed for a layout I did tweak it a bit to fit a format for a card. I also left out the journaling and replaced the photo with paper.

Here is a look at the finished card. celebrate-delight-resize

I added a big leaf cluster to the middle square.   Added some cork hearts. Stamped Celebrate above instead of below and added lots of Autumn Joy Sequins from the SpiegelMom Scraps store.  This card just screams Autumn doesn’t it?!

Here are some close ups.

This leaf I cut with my Cameo. and I love the added texture this hemp twine adds under the leaf. I also couldn’t resist adding some staples to hold the hemp in place.

I used pumpkin spice ink to stamp both title areas. One is on white card stock, to add a pop with all the darker colors on the card front. It’s not perfect stamping but I think it adds to the rustic look I was going for.

I wanted there to be a little something in each box. This box just got a bigger cork heart and some sequins. I love the colors in this sequin pack!! Perfect!!

For my next card I decided to spray some of my new Shimmerz Vibez spray over top some leaves from my yard. I had been playing around with them earlier that day, trying to take some fun fall photos. (I am in love with autumn this year. It is my first year in 7 years seeing a true autumn season since we have been in the military. I just can’t get enough of it!!) The colors I used were Eggnogin’ and Razzleberry. I really love how this gold and red almost purple color look together.

When I took the leaves off there was a spot from the leaves. Really subtle outline of the leaves. It looked really cool. I then pulled out my manual die cut machine and my one embossing folder. It had stitched hearts from the Amy Tangerine Stitched line and it was perfect for that cosy Autumn feel I wanted for my cards.

Again, I used some more Silhouette cut leaves, a half doily, some glitter paper cut into a banner. I used more hemp twine too. It just screams fall time.

This time I used Mocha Mint Dreams Sequins (which was designed to match the Reset girl line from Simple Stories).  I kept this card really simple.

Here is my last Autumn themed card of the cards I made.

I was inspired by this green striped watercolor patterned paper by WRMK Wildflower collection. I had also cut out that Autumn cut from  my Silhouette Cameo. I backed it on some really pretty star vellum.

I used a full doily on the front of the card. Layered in some blue star patterned paper from Dear Lizzy Serendipity. I love this faded green and dark blue color combo with the gold.

I looked through some of my Maggie Holmes ephemera for pieces that would work for an Autumn themed card. I still had this XOXO piece, and it is perfect for  the more feminine feel this card has. I also grabbed a small tag. I knew I wanted something tiny that could be held by with the clothespin with a button that I had. I added some natural twine in there too for texture.

I scattered some Razzleberry sequins, Falling Leaves sequins and some gray Heart Felties throughout the card.  I backed the XOXO Maggie Holmes piece with a light subtle paper from the Stitched collection by Amy Tangerine.

This card is my all time favorite. Just gorgeous!!

Here is the last card I am sharing with you tonight. I used a file designed by SpiegelMom Scraps design team member Laura Rumble. All the tiny hearts are so adorable.thinking-of-you

I backed the heart cut white card stock with a scrap piece of WRMK patterned paper. I love the pop of the teal paper looks as the next layer then backed by a dark grey and white striped paper.

I used all scraps to make this card. I love picking through all my favorite patterns and designs and adding them on a fun card. I used that thinking of you scrap as my sentiment.

I layered a tag under the sentiment and a circle punched scrap of patterned paper. I then scattered some dove gray heart felties and some cork hearts.

I used the Let’s Be Mermaid’s sequins to keep this card fresh and fun. I really kept this card simple.

I finished with some Millie & June puffy stickers with sequins.

I hope you were inspired today!! Even more I hope you grab some scraps and make a card to send to someone special. Enjoy the rest of your World Card Making Day!!

Don’t forget to stop over to Khristina’s blog and see what she made for World Card Making  Day.

Labor Day Weekend Triple Blog Hop Sparklers Feltie Friday

Aloha My Scrappy friends!! I hope you are excited for this weekend!! In the US we celebrate Labor Day. Really here it’s another day to celebrate and grill, but we are trying to remember all those that work hard!! One last hooray before school and work and fall commitments start piling up.

I hope you are excited about joining us on this Labor Day Weekend Hop. We have some uber (yes I totally just used the word UBER!!) talented ladies joining us this weekend!! I mean, I feel a little starstruck even though I have been following them on social media for a while.

Like all hops, all you need to do is follow the line up, each day this weekend we will be sharing and showcasing tons of cool new products from the SpiegelMom Scraps store. Each day has a different themed product, like today is Feltie Friday!! Just leave a comment on each of the blogs and enjoy the ride of seeing tons of amazing projects!! (I will have the whole weekend line up listed at the end of this blog so you can follow along)

You should have come from Missy’s blog, (like OMG) I love everything about her layout don’t you?!! I am not sure I should even be allowed to follow her, but today is my lucky day I guess. And yours because you get to see tons of amazing stuff. Let’s get right to it!!

Today I felt like getting messy!! And boy, did I get messy.

Don’t you just want to lick this stuff?!! I wouldn’t remind it, I am sure it’s quite gross actually but these Dazzlers from Shimmerz Paints (in the SMS Store) are so creamy and dreamy looking just blobbed on plain white card stock. I love the texture you get just from spreading it with a palette knife, so that is all I did.

I will admit doing this technique, takes three times as long to dry. But it is so so worth it in the end. The dimension you get when it is dry is amazing!!

I also used a paint roller and add some blackberry Dina Wakley acrylic paint. It is a heavy body paint so it is nice and thick. It stands up well painting (or rolling I should say) over the dry dazzlers. It adds another layer of texture on the background that is just really cool!

Because my background is a little busy and full of color, as well as my photo, I wanted to keep my patterned paper layers pretty natural. I tried to stick with some black, whites, and grays for the layers.

I add banners in the layers to add a touch of color to the layers. there was lots of purple on the background and in my photo. I though just a few hints of purple throughout the layers and on my layout would help the purple pop.

I used lots of the new feltie hearts!! I think these are my new favorite embellishments!! I want to add them to everything. They are just so much fun.

They layer really easily too. They look so cool layered on top of the layered heart tag that I added to a glassine bag from the SMS store. I like the added texture but lightness that a glassine bag gives to layers.

I found that bow in my stash and it’s perfect for this layout. With a staple it adds the right amount of dimension and texture to finish off that top cluster.

I also painted some of my wood veneers before adding them to the layout. It helps so most of the purple elements are the same color. Not that it really matters in the end, but sometimes matching purples can be a little difficult. They can be so different, and I didn’t want it to distract from the photo.

I love this photo I took of my daughter. Playing with her legos. I took this photo on July 30, for Day In the Life, which is a project started by Ali Edwards. Basically it’s a project to document your day, what happens on a regular day in your life. This day for us was really special. It was our first full day in our new home.

We bought this lego kit for Cayden that day because we told the kids, if they were good while we had to live in a hotel room for two months, they could get a new toy when we moved in. The kids of course weren’t perfect, it’s hard living in a hotel room altogether for two whole months. But they were mostly good so as the mush parents we are, allowed them to get a new toy. (Because a new puppy just wasn’t enough)

Cayden had actually been asking for this particular lego set for almost a year and a half on and off. It’s pretty expensive and was really hard to find while we were in Hawaii and had never ended up getting it for her there. When looking at stores near our home, Cayden saw this dolphin cruiser lego set and boy was she very excited.

So we just had to get it for her. It is hard not to see the twinkle in a six years old eye of a toy they have been wanting to get for so long (it seems even longer when you are a little kid too). When she brought it home she worked all afternoon and evening on this cruiser and by the end of the night it was almost finished. It really only took her a full day putting it together, because she worked the next day for a little while finishing it up.

When she had the whole thing together she was even more excited too. It was the coolest toy she has ever owned, her words not mine ;). As a parent it is cool to see your child work hard to put something together all by them self. Knowing they are growing up and don’t even need your help.

Ok back to the layout. I journaled around the edges of the layout and around the photo layers. IMG_8913

I also added paint and dazzlers to this Dear Lizzy Watercolor word to help it tie into the layout.

I layered a few banners under it to match the top banners. Those felt hearts are really fun under the title too. I layered the gray felt hearts with the wood veneer and I really like the way that looks.

I finished the whole layout with Crushin’ On Purple sequins and some gold, black and tinsel Heidi Swapp color shine splatters. I made sure I splattered the gold on my photo (I really like the effect that gives) and on the purple wood veneer pieces.

Thanks for joining me today for this awesome Weekend Labor Day Hop. Felicia’s blog is next so I hope you continue and see her amazing layout using the felties!!

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!! Be Safe and enjoy the company of others and maybe even get some crafting done too!!

Sparklers Squads Unite Blog Hop

Aloha!! Can you believe it’s September already?!! This summer has flown by!! The kids are going back to school, pumpkin spice latte’s are now available and when I let the dog out to pee in the morning there is a nip in the air. Fall is on it’s way!!

I hope you are excited to join us today for the Sparkler’s DT Blog Hop. I know I say this everytime, but I love hops. I love that there is tons of inspiration all linked together.

You should have come from Sarah’s blog!! Wasn’t her project beautiful?!! I love her stuff, I just want to create after looking at whatever she is creating!!

For this blog hop you will only have one day to comment on everyone’s blogs to be entered into the drawing for the prize. And what is this prize, you may be asking? This month you have the chance to win a $10 store credit. Woot!! Who wouldn’t want $10 to spend on amazing sequins or felts, which are my new favorite things right now!!

I will have the links for the rest of the blog hop at the bottom of the post so you can continue on your way.

For this month Khristina has made some cut files to share. They are super cute and perfect for this time of year where we are going back to school. You can find them on the SpiegelMom Scraps Blog.

I wanted to do something a little different for this layout. I like to do that from time to time, switch things up. I decided to do two 6×12 layouts to document my photos about reading. I will put them in 6×12 protectors next to each other in my album.

I mostly used the same papers on each side so that they look like the belong together but changed a few things around so they looked different.

I have been loving tags lately. I can’t get enough of them!! I layered some manilla tags from the SpiegelMom Scraps store. They are nice and big so I just typed out some journalling from my computer and added it to my tags. It was a really fun way to journal and draw your eye to the tags.

I love how these cork hearts look on the layout!!

I added these metal clips for some added textures. Plus they remind me of bookmarks a little, so I had to use them. I also layered a glittered tag at the top. The hand drawn white hearts adds a nice homemade touch too.

Here is some more cork hearts and it’s perfect as another layer on the strips of paper. It also gives a nice shelf for the title and cut file Khristina made. I used a music notes patterned paper from Maggie Holmes Shine collection to cut out on with my Silhouette. It really plays while with this book type of theme.

Did you notice the stack of books, adorable!!

For the second side of my spread I started off with Kraft cardstock. I debated a while before I finally stuck with this decision. In the end I wanted each 6×12 sheet to be it’s own spread though. I wanted it to look like it stood alone as well as match the page next too it.

I wanted the photos to be the star focus on this part of the spread too. These are the books I read over the summer as we were moving and living in the hotel.

I used a tag next to each photo so I could write in the title of the book, even though you can mostly tell what books I was reading. Just in case I forget, I mean it is bound to happen one day right?!

Just like the other spread I used the same embellishments to match. This makes the layouts feel like the are the same without be to matchie.

I really like the look of the photos overlapping each other and I added foam under my photos to pop them up more for dimension.

Here is another one of those metal clips. I love that it had a heart too, so I could match hearts with other heart embellishments, like the cork and the puffy hearts from Fancy Pants Designs

I added a simple title to the top of this spread. I like the look of little title stickers but one work in round circles. It adds interest and draws your eye to the title. Then you know what this spread is all about.

I really like how this whole thing turned out. It was really fun to make and it told a bit of info about me and my interests this summer. I think this will be fun to go back to next year or the year later and see how my reading habits change. I also want to create another spread like this with the books my kids read this summer too.

Here is a picture of the whole thing together.
