I am so honored to asked to be apart of this amazing kit club again!! These past six months have went so fast but have been amazing. Here is some things about me..
What is your favorite technique to use on your layouts? This really quite a technique but I love to use paint on my layouts. Without some kind of paint, it just doesn’t feel complete. I don’t even discriminate on the type of paint either 😉 Another technique I love to use is layering. The more layers the better.
Who is your favorite designer? This is a loaded question!! How can you even pick one or even two?! I will say lately I have really been enjoying watching Ali Brown (an art journal artist), Zinia. If we are talking about scrapbooking designers, I love Amy Tangerine’s heart and enthusiasm. I have met her a few times, and her love for playing with paper and getting creative is just infectious. I also love using Maggie Holmes paper designs. I also love the bright colors and patterns in Paige Evans designs. So dreamy!!
How did you get started scrapbooking? I started scrapbooking in the winter of 2014. We took a Make-A-Wish for my daughter Leilani. She wanted to be a zookeeper for a day at the San Diego Zoo. I wanted to document the photos from that trip, since it was so special. I wanted her and the other kids to remember those fun moments of our trip. I was in love with just one stick of glue to paper. Though I really think the chance to play and be creative was just what I needed in that time of our lives. Going through lots of chemo with Leilani, taking pictures and realizing how much of our lives were normal and how much these smiles meant to me. It was just what the doctor prescribed for this momma!! From there I really just have fallen in love with all the amazing things this hobby has to offer.
What do you love the most about creating? I think coming form my last question to this one, my answer is so simple. I love how when I create and am at my desk, I am not just a mom, a wife, a daughter, a care-giver, a massage therapist, a cook, a maid, a teacher, I am Hannah, just me. I love that creating allows me to be my true me!! I love that I get to be in charge of the stories I want to tell and share for later. I love history and old stuff. I love that I am in control what someone can find out about the world I live in. I also just love to play with pretty paper, embellishments and art supplies, like a little kid.
Here are all the places you can find me on Social Media,
I have Youtube videos for these layouts as well. I post often on the Clique Kits Youtube Channel, so be sure to subscribe there is you are not, so you don’t miss out on any of the Design Team videos.
Thanks for stopping by everyone!! I can’t wait to inspire you this coming fall/winter season. Don’t forget to stop by Khristina’s Blog next and get to know her better. Make her welcome, since she is the newbie in the Clique this season. I promise you she won’t disappoint you in the inspiration area though!!
This month is the month for Blog Hops, and welcome!! I am actually having fun joining in all these hops, sharing what I have been working on, what I am creating. I also am loving seeing all the stuff everyone else is creating lately!
I love that about this community that we are so open to support each other and love being inspired by our friends and others in the industry.
Follow through the hop today and comment and you will be entered into the giveaway, from Beth’s Scrapping Wonders Store. We are also teaming up with a really cool sticker shop in Etsy.
I hope you enjoy your time here today and learn some fun things about me today. Our theme this month is Truth or Dare and today we are playing two truth’s and a lie. I will be telling you some things about myself and you are gonna have to guess what is the lie. (I will try to keep it simple, since I may have some new followers to me 😉 )
I am also so excited to share with you my spread for the hop. I have been working all week on it, so it has been a real labor of love and creation. My stewing on this spread so it is fun and says what I want it too. I feel like all art journal spread tells a story other than one you may think you are telling. all the stuff you are working out in life comes through when you create. You pour it all out on the page. And whether we mean too we tell a story. This is something that awes me too. I love seeing my personality flow right onto my pages.
Usually at the end of the spread, when it is finally finished I think it is totally cool how it looks and feels like me. This spread isn’t my fave, and I really had to work it out to get something I was happy with. This is the journey some art journal spreads take though. I think it’s the learning that is what is what really comes out of it.
This spread however are inspired by my favorite drink ever. Coffee.
This is why I choose the colors I did. It’s no surprise that I have been digging Purples right now. It’s my new found color to add a smile to my face and try to incorporate all the shades in my work. I also thought that some teals and dark blues would go well with the purple. As I got going a coral color made it’s way onto my spread. It was my unexpected color choice.
Early on I knew I wanted to stamp out coffee cups and hand stitch on them. I added some patterned paper from some Maggie Holmes 6×6 and 6×8 pads. These smaller patterns made it easier to fit on the cups better.
I loved that I got to pull out more of my coffee inspired products, like coffee bean stamps and coffee cup stencils.
The texture and layers using these products really helps drive the love I have for coffee.
I used lots of layers of Shimmerz sprays and Acritonez paints. I made purple by mixing navy and pink.
I also used black and white polka dot tissue paper on the right side of the Scrapping WondersMixed Media Traveler’s Notebook. This is my fave Notebooks. The quality of the paper is thick and has just the right amount of texture to hold up to tons of mixed.
The Columbus Road Prints Stickers really add to my spread too. I added them on top of the media, I used multi medium matte to attach the stickers. Even though they are sticky I worried they wouldn’t stay stuck to all the media I used.
I also use the multi medium matte to adhere my sentiment. I used an old Pink Fresh Studio alpha stamp in teal, purple and pink stamping ink. I mixed the colors around for the sentiment to make them match better. I love how it looks.
For the word time in the sentiment, I made sure I outlined it with some paint markers around the edges. I wanted to make sure it popped out enough to see.
Here is a look at my full spread. It’s so colorful and a fun way to share my love of coffee.
Along with this blog hop we are playing two truth’s and a lie. A fun way to get to know us ladies on the Scrapping Wonders Design Team. So in the next paragraph I am going to tell you three things, two of them will be true and one will be a little fib. Can you guess what is the lie? Add your guess in the comments and you will be entered into the giveaway for a free Scrapping Wonders Traveler’s Notebook Insert. Follow the line up below and comment along the way and enjoy the Hop!!!
You may have come from Suzanna’s Blog, if so Welcome!! If not, you need to get over there and check out her amazing layout!!
It has been forever since the Sparklers have gotten together and had a hop. I kinda missed it. I love spending a quiet (even if the quiet is in my head with coffee to dull the sounds of children asking for their morning needs. See my kids still are on summer break. So mornings are definitely not all that quiet in my house.)
Like all the SpiegelMom Scraps blog hops I have joined in, I will list the line up down below. There are a lot of us, so I will try my best to keep it simple and short with tons of pictures. That is my favorite part of the hops, if I am being honest. I love being inspired before I have even gotten started for the day.
Follow the hop and comment on all the blogs for a chance at to win a prize of the new September release of sequins. The winner will be picked and notified on September 2.
This month our theme as a group is Artsy Fartsy and all the sequins are designed to match different famous art works. Here is a look at the sequins released this month. They are gorgeous and our very own Lisa helped design some of them.
Lately I have going back to my roots. If you have followed me throughout my scrapping journey, you know I have fully embraced the mixed media trend in scrapbooking. In fact I credit a lot of my artsy tendencies on my family. My great grandmother was really artsy, I grew up seeing her floral paintings around our house. My grandmother also dabbled in art and drew and painted a fireplace in our house as an accent wall. My mother has played with watercolors, painting lots of gorgeous Hawaiian sunsets. Playing with paints helps me really dig into the inspiration I need. It refreshes me.
I will admit though sometimes it takes a while to create these “works of art”. There is lots of drying time, getting over the fear of the blank slate, and just figuring out what you want to convey on the page you are creating. Sometimes pages come together really fast and easy. It seems the paint flows with the ideas. Other times you take you page one step at a time. Taking days to finish all the little layers you add to create interest on your page, and then you add pictures and embellishments.
I love this journey though. It truly has made me a better scrapbooker. And I have loved coming back to my roots.
Let’s talk about this layout I made for today.
Because I knew this month was all about art, I will wanted to embrace it. I started out my scrapbooking layout blank, like it was an art journal type of page. Just letting my products guide me into a direction. This means I had no idea what photos I would end up scrapping or what story I wanted to tell.
I mixed some of the Razzle-dazzle berry spray with some acrylic matte, which helps seal in the spray so it doesn’t blend and mix with my next layer. It changes the spray a bit too so that it is intensified on the card stock. This step definitely needs to dry overnight.
I am still very much entranced with purple tones!! I don’t know what it is about the color but I am all about purple. I don’t have the Shimmerz purple acritonez. Acritonez, are acrylic paints with a primer in them. They are so nice for mixed media that is layered. It isn’t as opaque as regular acrylic paint so you can still see bits of other mixed you may have under it. I like this on projects like what I am doing. I don’t want all that work I did under to disappear, I want to enhance it. I mixed the pinkadelic and the in the navy Acritonez together to make some different shades of purples. Let me tell you this was so much fun!!
I applied this layer with my palette knife. I used this layer as a base to doodle on. I used a variety of paint marker pens from my stash. I drew some flowers and leaves. This is my favorite part of the layout. I am so glad it worked because it could have been a disaster. This is one of the things about mixed media. You have to be brave. Many times you make decisions when you could ruin your work so far. If you don’t take the leap you won’t get the big pay off at the end though.
This is what you are working for too, with mixed media and art journalling. This fact that all these little steps will come together and have this big pay off.
I knew this layout needed to make statement. I am not gonna lie, I still had no idea where I was going with my page from here. I scoured the silhouette store for something that popped out to me. A sentiment that fit with this spread, that I could make my own. Finally I found the perfect one. The part that made me chuckle was it brought me back to SpiegelMom Scraps too. I love how this can happen too. In this journey we travel in scrapbook page making we finally come full circle.
I found a sentiment that said snails & puppy dog tails. I made it huge so I could stitch around it one I cut it out on my silhouette. I wanted it to cover most of my layout. I want this phrase to be what you see. I also added an alpha with this title/sentiment that said Sequins. It would be perfect for the story I was now going to tell with this page.
I printed out two very small photos. I usually like to use bigger images on my layout, but this just seemed to call for something small. I had two photos I wanted to use too. They are my two younger children Cayden and Samuel. They are holding up Spiegelmom Scraps glassine bags filled with sugar and spice and a bit of small sequins. They wanted them because they had been reading nursery rhymes and read the little girls and little boys are made of nurses rhyme. They want to create their own mix to create the perfect little girl and boy. The silly little things our kids do, I love their innocence they still have. I am glad I have been able to protect this a bit. Sam was quite upset that boys were made from snakes, snails and puppy dog tales and insisted I use his sisters mix because it was better for making the perfect boy. I told him I added a bit of pepper for a dash of fire and spiciness that makes boys a bit different. Just retelling this story it makes me smile. They were so cute. I wish I could keep them this age forever!! There scene of exploring and discovery is so fun to watch.
After I stitched the sentiment, which took a while, but so worth it!! Thank goodness for Netflix when it comes to hand stitching. I used a variety of purple, teal, copper thread and then I added some of the pink and white baker’s twine from the store. I wanted to have a bit of color to match the colors I used on the background.
After adding my photos with a bit of layers. I lightly embellished my layout. I added some of the Cocoa Vanilla Wild at Heart die cuts, I knew all the purple would work perfect with my colors. I also knew the florals would help tie in my own floral I doodled on the bottom of my layout.
I finished off with sequins, because I just don’t feel a layout is finished without them. I used the Painted Gardens sequins from the September Release. I also added a few Stargazer sequins. I wanted a touch of a clear sequin to reflect of the background. These were perfect for this layout!!
You can watch me create this layout on my personal Youtube.
Here is a final look at my layout. It is so much fun. I will end up typing out my journaling and adding it to the backside of my layout. It will also help cover up all the stitching too.
Thanks for joining in on this hop!! It is always so much fun, being inspired by so many great designers. Don’t forget to continue on the hop and comment so you can be added in the running for some free sequins!!
Up next is Daisie Scraps!! I can’t wait to see what she created, I know it will be awesome!!
Aloha!! We are starting a new month ad it is exciting!! Today on my blog I have something super special. I am joining in with all of the new SpiegelMom Scraps Design Team for a blog hop to get to know all the Sparklers. There are so may new and talented ladies on the Team this year. I can’t wait to get to know them!!
Like all of the first of the month blog hops, make sure you check out each blog post and comment for a chance to win a store credit of $20 from Jody. At the end of my post I will have the line up so you can follow along the hop and if you lose your way you can always come back here or the first post at the SpiegelMom Scraps Blog.
I am so thankful and excited to be apart of the Sparklers team again!! This team is so amazing and it really feels like I found my tribe being among all of them. I look forward to growing this year, learning this year and pushing myself even more this year. Trying some new things and perfecting more of the things I love to do as well.
This spring I really have felt called by media again. The fun you have when you get messy is like being a kid again. Saying that though my style has changed so much since I did a bunch of media a couple of years ago. It is all about playing and experimenting. Knowing not every thing is amazing but taking that knowledge and making something better the next time. Pushing the envelope of what feels comfortable. I love this growth in mixed media. You learn so much about yourself.
This Blog Hop is all about learning more about each other. I feel like doing mixed media requires you to bare your soul and put everything on the line. When it pays off it feels so good. But you also see the beauty in the journey that you take emotional as you create as well.
For this hop I wanted to create a currently type of spread. I am always thinking to myself that I want to do one, but rarely do it. Maybe it’s because I really have a hard time picking one thing that I have to love. I love so many things and always have so many answers. There is something though for taking a moment to say, this is where my mind is at right now. The real fact is next month’s right now won’t be the same.
I decided to use a Traveler’s Notebook as my canvas today. It’s a mixed media Traveler’s Notebook that I have from past Sparkler Beth Soler’s Esty Store. It’s so nice and think, perfect far adding lots of media and heavy mediums.
I pulled out a bunch of new Shimmerz products that I have recently gotten from the SpiegelMom Scraps Store to use. I wanted to challenge myself and use sprays, paste-eez, and acri-tonez altogether.
I also printed out a huge Traveler’s Notebook page size picture of myself from Easter. I dressed up wearing an old dress I bought when we lived in Hawaii. It’s flowing and has tons of flowers and trebling markings on it. It’s perfect on a spring and summery day. I don’t really want to forget about Hawaii so I love that I can wear it and remember all the memories from walking on the beach with this dress on, or eating a nice dinner with my husband in it.
I started off using a 3×4 Amy Tan Stencil to draw triangles on the page. This stencil is my favorite stencil. I love to use my pen to outline the pattern and create a different look depending how I use it.
Next grabbed the Shimmerz Acri-tonez paint in Jade and painted swathes in a few different spots. This is a cool way to add something dramatic but in moderation. I add plus signs in copper acrylic paint with a silkscreen. The metallic color against the bright color of the Acri-tonez really makes the color pop off the page.
After adding more acrylic paint to the page, and a wood veneer piece I want to add to my page later, I pull out my stencil again. I use the same one and try to lie it up almost straight. I added some Shimmerz Coloringz in Pink Stilettos to some Salt of the Earth Shimmerz Paste-eez and applied it throughs the stencil. Some of the triangles in the paste-eez were right over the drawn triangles and some were slightly off of it. I really love the dimension from the paste-eez. I also added some paste-eez with my palette knife across the page.
I stamped around the page with an Ali Edwards Week In the Life Stamp and ink. The fact that it is imperfect is really fun and unique. I also added some die cut flowers and stickers from the Cocoa Vanilla Wild At Heart Collection. I am digging the colors in this collection right now. I am having a really hard problem not using that collection for everything I create on my desk right now.
I placed a bunch of Hey Kiddo Sequins throughout the spread. Those little magenta flowers are adorable. They also match perfectly with my dress.
I used a full size 3X8 size photo or so to fit the Traveler’s Notebook page. I wanted it to be all me. Adding that painted wood veneer piece really adds interest to my page. Also I really like to bulk up my pages. I really don’t let the fact that things are heavy or thick stop me.
To finish off my other side I added a die cut at the bottom of the page and a rubber charm with another die cut watercolor flower.
One of my new favorite tools is my gold mini DIY stapler. It’s gold, so that makes it awesome but also the little tiny staples add just the right amount of metal to projects. I just about use it every time I create now.
Now I did this super fun and beautiful page, but I still wanted to add a currently list of things I have been digging. I use a pocket page card from Citrus Twist, in the pocket page kits.
I did all my journaling on the card and attached it to the next page with a thin piece of washi tape. I added tape to both the front and back side so in the future I can flip the journaling card and add more journaling. I love this concept about Traveler’s Notebook and being able to keep adding things to the pages.
I also used a strip of patterned paper, a sticker and a die cut to the page to finish it. I kept it really simple but pretty.
Just in case if it’s a bit too hard to read my journaling, this is what I am currently loving!!
Loving: Mixed Media.. I have been itching to pull out my messy things and play. I also have been loving the Traveler’s Notebook size.
Reading: Rick Yancey, The Infinite Sea. This is book number 2 of the 5th Wave series. Even though it really has taken me forever to read it. I think because it is the second book it just isn’t as gripping as the first. There still is tons of character development. So I just keep reading little bits here and there. (I don’t ever have to worry about never picking up a book, so these periods where a hardly read. next month I could read 3 books in one month.) I have been enjoy the YA dystopian genre, it used to seen so far fetched.
Eating: Curries. I have been craving curries of all kinds, Thai green Curry. Tiki Masala. Peanut curry. Yum Yum. Now I am hungry and want some of that luxurious sauce and hearty potatoes and meat.
Drinking: COFFEE. This never changes. Its almost all I drink, besides water. Sometimes I will drink some coconut water when I am feeling dehydrated. I have also been thinking about Sun Tea, now that the sun is starting to come out. Being from New York and Upstate, I am a purist. Just Tea, no sugar. That is just how it is suppose to be. Though if you want to add fruit, I may be ok with that.
Where: (Geotag) Okay I am just gonna say, I am boring most of the time. I go now where and want to spend most of my time scrapping, even though I can’t because of chores and mom stuff. But I am really boring. I barley go places. LOL. Never thought that would be my life. Thank you introvert hubby, has slowly turned my into a introvert who wants to spend days at home doing nothing but reading, scrapping and watching netflix. I am however thinking about camping and hiking lately. I love that we live somewhere where I can do those things. I am hoping soon we can make a hiking or nature walk trip to Mt. Rainer or around close by.
Picture: I have been spending all weekend working on NSD stuff. I also have been finishing up WITL this past week. I haven’t actually been taking as many pictures as I would like, but then again we aren’t doing a ton of way special things so I just take pictures of things that warm my should or inspire me. I have been thinking maybe I should finish a DSLR class I bought last year. It’s never to late to keep learning.
I hope you have enjoyed getting to know me a bit more. I have enjoyed sharing a bit of myself each time I create a layout. Because really that is who I scrapbook for, telling my story. It just happens I have some amazing family members who show up a lot in my story and I love that too.
Aloha My Scrappy friends!! Can you believe it’s April Already?!! I can’t, time is just flying by, and the days are starting to get longer and the air a bit less chillier. It feels like Spring here in The Pacific Northwest is finally on it’s way. Or at least today as I write this it is. The sun is warming the grass and the birds are chirping. Nature is coming alive.
You have probably found your way to my blog from Sarah’s blog. Isn’t her shaker so much fun?!! I am loving it and the colors.
Every month the SpiegelMom Scraps Design Team Meets up and joins in on a blog hop, sharing some stuff they are creating with their supplies. It’s always fun to check in with your friends and fave design team members. As a blog hopper, comment on all the blogs in the line up until April 3. Then April 5th Jody will announce a winner and they will receive a $10 store credit. Super awesome right?!
Down below my post you will be able to find the full lineup list so you can follow all the way through if you happen to get lost. Let’s get right to my layout, because that is why you are here right?!
This monthly scrappy friend and design team member Christy had a baby. A beautiful baby girl! I am so happy for her and her husband. Having a baby is such a fun and new experience each time.
Spring time always reminds me of births and rebirth of nature. The exclusive Spiegelmom Scraps Cut Files (which you can find of the Spiegelmom Scraps Blog) are perfect for this time of the year when many of us who are thinking about new beginnings. It has many sayings that about about babies too.
All of this makes me go down memory lane to the five, seven and eight years ago when I was lucky to have been giving the name of mother. It almost doesn’t even feel like all that long ago I was preparing for their arrivals and excited to see what they were going to look like.
Even though my journey to having children was quite easy and quick, It felt like forever in the moment. Maybe because I didn’t really know for a while what my future really would hold. I had always wanted to be a mother since a young child. It really was one of the only things I wanted to be. As a teen when I got quite sick and was dealing with all that stuff, my doctors told me they didn’t know what adult life would look like for me. At the age of 16 it was quite scary. My life really just begun. I wasn’t really ready to think about what it would be like to be an adult, even though at the time I couldn’t wait to grow up.
Looking back I realize what my doctors said was really based off of what they knew at the time (remember this was about 16 years ago) about my disease and illnesses. They didn’t know that with all the amazing research and medicine of the future would really make life so much better for people just like me fighting.
At that time though, I didn’t know if having kids would even be in the path for me. I do remember quite clearly hearing God say trust in him and I will get that family I really desired. So I lived that way, trusting God. That really is all we could ever do.
Years laters, I had been blessed with the children I had hoped and prayed for. With an amazing husband who walked through this journey with me, wanting the same things.
As life who have it, we ended up having two girls first. Which I wasn’t upset about at all. I was excited to seeing their friendship because of how close they were in age (they are about 17months apart). When my husband and I were thinking of names for all our kids, we went with meaning and what those names represented. Being Christian and growing up reading the Old Testament, I had a strong understanding that names have such a big impact of who we are and what people think about us. Our name really is part of our character.
After long talks, like couples have together we talked about what these names meant to us. Trying so hard to find the perfect name fit for all our children. The easiest names would be for our son, Samuel Isaac.
Just from my story and the fact that we wanted to work together in a ministry, the ministry of life or wherever God would lead us. Samuel and what he represented, How Hannah his mother wept and cried and begged God to give her a son, a baby. Someone to carry on the family line. God looked on her and smiled, and gave her a son. She then gave him back to God and his service and Samuel later became a great prophet and giver of advice for many great men in his time.
As with Isaac, he was the promised child of Abram who desired a family. God promised him ancestors as many as the Stars in the nighttime sky. Just like God promised me that things would work out for me, He did that for Abram and Sarai. That name seemed fitting for this son my Husband and I would have.
It’s a strong name, a name with meaning, and i know his life will have great purpose. Just like all people. I am honored to be the one to give my soothe tools he will need to conquer this world we live in. To bring peace, joy, encouragement and love to those around him.
I can’t wait to see this life of his evolve!!
So I made this layout.
I was looking through old photos, which are so disorganized, but that is for another post, and found this jewel!!
It was perfect for the exclusive cut files. I choose the Baby Boy cut file and cut it out of white card stock. I attached it to my layout with stitching. I made three passes of my machine in a light mint green color.
I used the collection Little by Little from Shimelle. I love the little kid cartoon and spring feel. I thought it would go beautifully with my picture of Samuel, which happens to be the first set of images taken of him outside my tummy.
I kept my layers simple, by adding a few strips of paper around the layout. I also used the cut apart sheet with a lion and camera. The colors in this collection are so fun, and even though my son wasn’t born in the spring. I love the spring feel that is going on, because it reminds me of birth.
I added a doily up in top cluster for texture. only a little bit is sticking out, which I really like. It doesn’t make the layout seem to girlie. I really try to think about that with my son’s layout, even though I know it really doesn’t matter.
I also added a shipping tag (the top of it) at the bottom of my layout. I wanted to be able to connect the main part of the layout and flow all the way down. Even though I know I was adding quite a bit of journaling about Samuel’s name, I wanted something there. A tag with a feltie cloud was perfect.
I hop you enjoyed seeing my layout as well as this blog hop. Be sure to stop by Khristina’s blog next and leave a comment.
I also hope you keep your eyes peeled at the SpiegelMom Scraps blog for the upcoming Design Team Assignment for the following, I for one am curious who will dazzle us in the upcoming year with their sequin love!!
I hope you are finding yourself warm surrounded by beauty today as you hop along with all the Clique Kits Design Team Members. (I don’t know about you but I am so ready for warmer weather. Of course coming from Hawaii this summer, this is my first real winter in 6 years. I am just not used to the concept of winter being more than a week, and I find it quite sad. The cold and I just don’t get along. Thanks Goodness for hot coffee because it has kept me company during many of these cold mornings!!)
You should have come from Reku’s Blog and I bet you learned so much about her!! Isn’t she so much fun?!!
I will make sure down below the Design Team Blog Hop Line Up is posted. That way if you happen to get lost you can find your way through the hop. I am really excited to get to know all the amazing ladies and crafters I will be working with this term.
I was just thinking about when I first started scrapbooking a little over three years ago, this February. I was so obsessed with consuming so much of the scrapbooking knowledge I could find throughout the social media online world. Back then I couldn’t watch enough Tracy Banks (Mercy Tiara), Irit, Sandy (Ohsnapgonzo), Lisa (Maggie Mylow), Jill Sprott, Shimelle and many other Two Peas ladies. I was so inspired by them that I just had to share the things I was making. I seriously just jumped into this scrapbooking world that I really didn’t know much about. It wasn’t long before I got immersed in the scrapbooking community sharing and learning and building relationships with so many scrapbookers. Many of these ladies still have made a big impact on me and how I scrap today.
Even today, three years later, I am still so in love with scrapbooking. I may not be infatuated with scrapbooking like when I first started, but I still hunger and crave to touch paper everyday. Though sometimes being an adult has to come first, scrapbooking has just become a part of me. I am a storytelling, memory keeper and family historian who uses pictures and paper to tell those stories. Some of these stories are big moments and some are just pretty little moments that remind me to stop and smell the roses.
I never even imagined three years ago that I would be able to be where I am now on this scrapbooking journey I am on. It’s an amazing wild and fun and awesome ride I am on and I am loving it. I am loving be inspired by the little things and the big things in my life!
Okay let’s get to know a little more about me with some fun little facts
What is your Favorite color? Right now I have been so inspired with teal and grey and a touch of pink. I am buying clothes these colors, organizing my scrap room these colors and I may be purchasing these colors more over other colors too. (Though I really just love all colors, it’s really hard to pick a fave color for all time 😉 )
What is you favorite song right? Since I scrap mostly listening to music I love this question. A few of my fave songs that get me moving on my play list are, ‘Empy Gold’ by Halsey, ‘Hurricane’ by MsMr, ‘Let Me Love You’ by Justin Bieber, and ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore” Charlie Puth . If I want to listen to some classics I will pull out some Hanson (This Time Around), The Who, and POD just to name a few. I think I will stop before I end up naming all the songs I love!!
Who inspires me? This is a hard question, because I am inspired by so many people. My daughter, Leilani inspires me as she smiled and played through Chemo treatments. My friend Jenney inspires me as she lives with having to control the thoughts in her head that try to destroy her life. She has dealt with mental illness and I have seen her conquer and defeat it with grace and poise and in her own way, not taking no as answer. I am inspired by my grandmother who has been able to see and be a part of women having voices and choices. She stood up for herself and her family doing what she needed to without handouts and worked hard. She is one of the strongest people I know. People like Joan Of Arc inspire me, many years later we still hear about this young woman who wasn’t afraid to stay up for what she thought was right! She took on so many things and stood tall. She took that faith with her tis death, many people wouldn’t do that. When staring death in the face we tend to back down and she didn’t, she didn’t let anyone tell her what to believe. That fire, so inspires me!! I also am inspired by so many crafters that I have gotten to know these passed few years, ladies like Victoria Calvin, Jen Schow, Susie Fishburne are just a few strong women taking a stand for crafting their story and going back to others. Another Big inspiration is Amy Tan. (I will share a little more about this later with my layout)
Favorite Book? This year a few of my favorite books have been Gemina (Illuminea Series), The Martian and A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Favorite Movie? Of all time my favorite movies are Back to the Future, and I am actually going to pick a show that I watched this past fall, Containment.
Favorite Snack? Umm is there a choice here, chocolate. Of any kind!! Pair that with a glass of wine and you are my new best friend 😉 HAHA, just joking, sort of. I really love chocolate and wine together combo.
What is your favorite food? Fried dough pizza. No Parmesan cheese! I don’t get it often. Actually I think my mom was the last one to make this for me. She used to make this for me on my birthday because I loved it so much. Oh man, now I am hungry.
Where would you like to visit someday? I am a big family ancestry researcher. I would love to go to Germany and find where my Grandfather’s family came from before heading to Upstate New York. Plus Germany is just so pretty. My next second is a tour of England, Ireland and Scotland.
Who got you into scrapbooking? My husband was the one who suggested it to me to try. He may now mildly regret asking me, if he had realized how much money I would spend. Though I know he is happy knowing I have something that is for me, plus it uses all those photos I take 😉
Fave Manufacturer? I really love Crate Paper. I love the mix of vintage with a modern flair. (American Crafts is probably number two, because I really love Dear Lizzy and I adore Shimelle.) Though It really is hard to pick between companies and styles, because I like to mix things up.
Here a quite look at the layout I made for this Design Team Hop.
We were asked to make a layout that shared our styles and a bit about us.
I decided to pull out some mixed media, in the form of watercolors. I really love adding something colorful or playful on my layouts. I did a technique that is one of my favorites. I used a stencil with a pen and traced it to add a pattern on my background. On top of the watercolor it really looks striking. Paired with some Shimmerz Dazzlerz paste with a silkscreen, I get a unique background that you can’t just buy in the store.
I love that thought that I have something in my album that is unique and me on a page. Mixed media is more about what you feel in the moment. Mixing what flows from the paintbrush or palette with your emotions at the time, creates something different each time you come to your scrap desk.
I backed this on some Pink Fresh Studio pattern paper. I used lots of layers behind my photo. I added some foam in between the layers to create dimension and shadows in these layers. There is something fun about mixing and matching bits of paper and making them fit together to create something cohesive and beautiful.
I tucked in some ephemera, washi tape and stickers in the layers.
I mixed the fonts for the title so it would stand out. Plus it just says fun to me, and really I like to have fun when I am documenting my memories.
Take this layout, I am using a photo that I have been putting off scrapbooking. I think I wanted to make sure I had the “perfect” papers, embellishments and set up to tell this story. Which is definitely not how it works, right?! We can never have a perfect everything to tell a story except for right now. If it inspiring you right now, it should be told. Whether it’s a small moment in time from your life, like a flower from your garden, a fallen leaf with frost or the lego toy your son put together on his own. It could be big moments, like when your child gets married, telling the story about aunt’s passing and how that brought your family together, or your Childhood best friend. All these memories, pictures and stories are perfect the minute they come to mind.
I seen this photo of Amy Tan and I. This day I knew it was time to scrap it. It makes me smile. I remember the breezy drive down H1 to get into downtown Honolulu. I remember seeing many familiar faces and many new faces, from the last time meeting in this conference room. I remember see Amy in that flows dress watching her son playing on the floor with his cars, smiling. I remember so much from that afternoon just from looking at that photo. These things are things I don’t want to forget.
Taking a class with Amy Tan is amazing. She just leaks inspiration and passion. When I see what she does and how crafting really is everything to her, I think, I want to be just like her when I grow up!! I want others around me to be inspired to tell their stories when they look at the things I share. When I talk with them and I tell my story, I want them to feel that passion for getting these moments that mean so much to us down on paper, however that looks to them.
Taking those two classes were so worth the money I paid. I left feeling refreshed and ready to keep sharing. Ready to keep crafting and being creative. I love that Amy really pulls this out of those around her.
If there is one thing I am sad about leaving Hawaii, is the fact I won’t be able to take classes with her there. Hopefully I will get the chance to see her again and borrow a little more of her enthusiasm for story telling and staying creative.
When making this layout, I really wanted that emotion to come through, fun, passion and creative!
You can watch my Youtube Process video down below too.
I hope you continue through this Design Team Hop and get to know the rest of the Clique Kits Design Team. My good friend and amazingly inspiring friend Victoria Calvin is next to visit. Enjoy her post and soak up all the knowledge and passion she shares today!!

This month the SpiegelMom Scraps Design Team and the Creative Embellishments Team is doing a product swap. Today we are sharing what we made with the products we swapped!! I hope you are super excited, because I am soon excited to share the layout I made we the products I got from Creative Embellishments!!
I am so super excited to share this layout with you today. This might just be one of my favorite layouts I have made this year, but even collectively.
This summer in the process of our move from Hawaii to Washington State our family did some fun outings to pass the time and have some time together. Being in a hotel for a little over a month we needed to get out and do something fun.
One of the things we decided to do was visit one of the local towns and train museums. We were able to actually ride a railroad train to the buildings where the lumbar and train workers lived and worked few weeks and months at a time.
I love history so for me I was in heaven, seeing all the replicated housing and the train building where they fixed and worked on the train parts to keep the train working to transport the lumber to the coast where it would connect to other parts of the railroad at the time.
My kids were in heaven because they LOVE trains!! They were in awe to be able to ride in one, to climb up the steps of the train. They loved looking at the window and watching the world pass by as the steam train blew it’s whistle.
The only thing that was a bit sad was that because of all the clouds in the distance the view of Mt. Rainer (which is only about 10 or so miles away from us) wasn’t clear. You really could only see glimpses of the grandeur mountain and volcano. I actually hope this coming summer we can go back out there to see Mt. Rainer up close and take this train ride out again, just was the views along the way.
All this spurred this layout, which ended up having a mind of it’s own. I was only planning on doing a 12×12 layout in this sitting. Then maybe do another layout later with some other photos and tell some different stories from this day or of our life with them. I love that when given the chance scrapbooking can become it’s own force. It grows and becomes much more than we could even imagine, and in these moments I find I get lost in the process and grow so much from it. I also tend to love these layouts so much more as well.
I started off with a really big image of the train. I think it was around 8x 10 in size. I also used this time to print off many smaller 2×3 size images from this day. My thought was to use 5 of these smaller photos at the bottom of the big photo.
This is when it become apparent that I was’t going to have much room for journaling of any embellishments to tell this story. I didn’t really want to cover up much of the images. I wanted to have enough space so you could actual take in what was in these photos. Many of them are some of my favorite images I have taken with my DSLR.
In came in the second side of this layout. I added a few more images I had printed off and put off to the side thinking I wasn’t going to use on this layout. I guess they were calling out to me to be used!!
One other thing I knew I wanted to try was to make some shakers. One of the things I received from Creative Embellishments was a pack of different size circles cut in chipboard. They reminded me of the wheels of the train on the railroad track. I thought these would be a fun place to contain sequin shakers. What isn’t more fun than a train wheel filled with sequins?! I used some old acetate cut a parts from my stash as the cover of the shakers. I filled the circles with some new March Release sequins, Pandora’s Ombre and Green Acres. I knew these colors would really compliment the colors throughout this layout. Because these pictures were taken in June everything out here was so green and full of life and color.
Making these shakers were definitely a labor of love. Figuring out the best glue because of the clear acetate was really difficult. These shakers took over a day to get right. They are so worth it though. I absolutely love how they turned out. I was surprised that you can barely see the glue I used last. I ended up using the red line AC double sided tape. I cut it in half and used lots of small pieces to have a really good seal all the way around the shakers. I know if I had used vellum or a glassine bag I might have not had a hard time with the glue and fit, but I am so glad I used the manly clear acetate. You really can see the colors on these sequins in the circles. They really add to the layout and provide a fun embellishment without having a lot of pieces .
Of course I added more layers of embellishments throughout the layout. I used the SpiegelMom Scraps Cork Stars throughout the layout as well. I really enjoy these stars. I love the texture they add, and really brings a bit of nature into the layout. Adhering them with staples brings in the metal that I think of with the Railroad train and tracks.
As well as using the Creative Embellishments Circles with sequins, I also added a few around the layout bare. I found that the wooden buttons fit in them nicely and looked playful.
I used lots of tickets throughout my layout as embellishments since we needed a ticket to get on the train. I really tried to think of these types of aspects when putting together my layout. I think it helps tie that layout together better and more cohesive which is really important when you are doing a double page spread.
I hope this layout has inspired to think outside the box and try to let the layout tell you where it’s going while making it. Also to not be afraid because it is going in a direction that you didn’t expect!!
I also have a process video for this layout, Which you can check out down below!
Now don’t forget to check out Heather’s blog. I can’t wait to see what see has made for this product swap! I am sure it will be stunning!!

Let’s Take a look at what at the layout I made.
Many of us on the team decided to use this sketch designed by Laura Whitaker for the Blog Hop month. This sketch was a really fun design.
I paired this die cut cookie with other embellishments to form a cluster. I added one of the Accent Scrapbooking Flair badges in the cluster. I went with the dot one, because it reminded me of the chocolate chips in the picture. I also added some baker’s twine and a feltie heart to the cluster.
I moved the title from the left side to under the photo. I thought it looked less connected to the photo by being there. I also used multiple fonts for the title too. I wanted it to reflect a youth like feeling.
I used a gold doily on the left side of the photo under the embellishment cluster there. I added a tag with twine, a ticket stab, another flair badge that has more dots on it. I also mixed sticker hearts and a feltie heart. I really like how it highlights the layers I used under the photo.
I started off by using a paintbrush to drop Shimmerz on the white cardstock for my background. I used Vibez Razzle-dazzle and Spritz Bamboo Leaf . This green and purple color combo inspired me and I knew I wanted to sequin mixes Razzleberry and All Natural.
I layered lots of ephemera and chipboard together at the top of the photo. using twine in the tag, it helps tie all the clusters together. I also added hearts in each cluster. I love all the little details that I added that really gives that cluster some life.
With sequins from Razzleberry and All natural that also helps tie everything together. I love the colorful dots from the patterned paper I added to the top of the layout too. I really tried to use dots throughout the layout.
I added the date under my photo. I used tile alphas across the bottom of the photo to mimic that feel you get with the banner from the sketch. I also used vellum on the bottom. I really wanted most of the ink Shimmerz splatters to show up. I thought the ink splatters coming through the vellum would look really cool.
I definitely love this photo of my daughter enjoying her birthday gift this year. She has wanted an Easy Bake Oven for a while, but we wanted to wait until the other kids were old enough that they knew the rules about baking. Leilani had so much fun playing with it all on her own. She told me after that she wants to be a baker. Of course I figure she will change her mind about her career multiple times before she gets older. It is however good seeing her learn and grow.
Here is the final layout. Other than wishing I had added ones for the journaling I am really pleased how this layout turned out. I loved the sketch, which really helped taking the struggle of coming up with a design all on my own. Also I really enjoyed using the Flair badges from Accent Scrapbooking. They were so fun.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog post today. I had a lot of fun making my layout to share with you today. Don’t forget to head over to Khristina’s Blog and she what wonderful and inspiring layout she created with the Accent Scrapbooking and SpiegelMom Scraps products.

Here is the layout I created for you today.
This is the Sketch that inspired my layout.
I used a mix of fonts to make a fun title!!
I used Cork Stars instead of snowflakes like on the sketch, to match the flair badge from the Cuts2Luv Shop. The badge I picked said You are beautiful.
I only used one photo, but layered papers and big embellishment pieces across the layout instead of one long of paper.
