Clique Kits April Pep Rally

Aloha!! This month I have been playing with the “Jelly Bean” Clique Kit for April. It has been so much fun to use all the bright colors. It has been perfect for heading into spring. This kit mainly uses the Bella Blvd Make Your Mark Collection. To see all that is in this kit, head over to their shop.

Today is Clique Kits monthly Pep Rally. Every month the design team and the subscribers get together and share what they have been making with their kits. It is really just a fun way to get to know everyone and be inspired.

I won’t make you wait then, let’s dig into the layout I made for today. This is about my 6 or so layout with this month’s kit.

Making this layout was journey. These layouts are always my favorites because I have to work through some stuff to figure out what I want to accomplish on a page. What do I want to tell with these papers and embellishments.

I really wanted to use some mixed media. I have been in a mixed media mood lately, maybe because I have been missing the days when I played with my paints all the time. I started out with the Shimmerz Acritonez that are an add on. I thought maybe I would paint blocks in using the challenge sketch for April. This direction didn’t end up looking so hot. I just didn’t feel it.

I cut up my paper. Yes, I stopped partway through my layout and started cutting it up. I chuckle, because the layouts I realize aren’t working and completely change course I end up loving!!

I layered patterned papers, a doily and some die cuts around my photo. This is a technique I love to do, layer. I haven’t been using as many layers lately and I can tell as I am building my layers. It takes a few tries to get a look I am happy with. But it is like riding a bike, once you get back into it. It all starts coming right back into place.

This is the point where I splatter some of my Shimmerz Acritonez paint on my white card stock background. I love how when I squeeze this bottle the drops are perfect. It creates raised splatters but they dry quickly and look so cool and dimensional.

I add some enamel dots around the splatters. They are bigger dots (I used all my small ones earlier this month) but they almost look like paint mixed in.

For more mixed media I pulled out my watercolors and painted over my title. These white Elle Studio Alpha’s really stand out now with the paint. They also now have more texture. I added paint around the layout also, so it wasn’t in just one place.

Don’t you just love those gold puffy hearts?! I had to add one to my page. Partly because I love them and I love this photo I took when at Waimea Falls in Oahu.

When we lived in Hawaii I loved going on this hike to Waimea Falls. The flowers and fauna on the trail are so gorgeous. This picture I took last April or May really has been calling me. I think the reminders of spring that Hawaii had are making me itch for spring here. Slowing it is coming, and scrapping my old floral pictures is helping get into the outside mood.

I added the foam Freckled Fawn word stickers on my photo. I love the black against the colors in my photo. They really contrast against each other and the black pops.

In my layers I also added some of the Clique Kits Exclusive printables. They are so fun and add just another layer of dimension.

Here is a look at my finished layout. I really think it turned out beautiful and I loved the journey I went on to make this layout.

I used my new sewing machine on my layout!! It was crazy but it looks so cool, doesn’t it?!Because of all the stitching I kept the rest of the layout simple. I added some black Heidi Swapp color shine, a few embellishments and a few strips of papers to layer.

March Clique Kits Pep Rally

Aloha My Scrappy friends!! It’s that part of the month when Clique Kits does their monthly blog hop and design team members and other crafters who get Cliques share some of the things are creating with their monthly kits. The March kit this month is the “Hell Yeah” and is packed with tons of exclusive goodies. I have really been enjoying using this kit which features Studio Calico Seven Paper Goldie designed by Ashley Goldberg. If you are following the Pep Rally Blog Hop then Welcome to my blog. You probably came from Kim’s blog, if after reading my blog post you want to continue the hop there is a list at the end of the post with the whole line up. You will end up at Charity’s blog!!

Here is a quick look at the “Hell Yeah” March Clique Kit.

For the layout I made for the hop I decided to go back and use the circles from the cut file that is available to download with you kit. Each month with your Clique kit, there are free cut files and printables. They are always fun and coordinate with the month’s kit perfectly!! Earlier this month I made a layout with their circle cut file. I had tons of smaller circles leftover, and I really didn’t want to throw them out.

I decided to cover about 2/3 of the layout with these circles. I tried to eyeball them but get them mostly evenly lined up.

For the bottom 1/3 I used the peachy pink stripe from the paper add on. I really hadn’t touched my paper add on and there is some really fun and pretty papers, mostly from Photoplay. They are pretty girly so I knew it would be perfect for a layout about my daughter Leilani.

Many of the 3X4 cut parts have encouraging words or phrases, also perfect for Leilani. I picked the one that said, “With brave wings she flies”. the cut apart/journaling card was in a gorgeous teal color too. a good contrast to the blue in the pattern from the circles up above.

In our kit we also had this really fun gold and silver crape paper. I really wanted to use that. I love all the texture it could give to my layout. I made a fan out of each color twice. I pieced them together in a semi circle. There was a gold and silver piece together. I tucked them one each side of the photo, knowing that I would add some other goodies with them.

I love how it, looks peeking out from under these hand cut flowers!!

I handout some of the floral clusters for embellishments and layered elements on my layout. I tucked them around the crape fans and near the bottom of the 3×4 card. some of the flowers I added pop dots for dimension.

I also cut some of the hearts out of one of the other patterned papers in the kit. These tiny hearts were perfect to mix with the exclusive die cut embellishments. I used one of the journaling tags with the fans.

I used the roller phrase stamp for a fun detail on the background near my clusters. The black ink really pops.

I used the other cut file with marque words for part of my title. I used a darker pink patterned paper so it would add contrast with the circles on the background. I also used some gold glitter thicker words for my title. I wanted more gold on the layout since I had gold with the crape fans.

I finished my title with the black alpha stickers that matched with the Goldie collection from Seven Paper. I love this font, it is just so much fun and the perfect size. I added this under my photo, to flow down the whole layout.

There is my classic layers behind the photo, which is also on pop dots. I finished the layout with Heidi Swapp gold and hot pink Color Shine. I journaled on the back of my layout, since it would have been really hard to see handwritten journaling on the front. Plus I wanted to write something sweet to my daughter. With this being in our family album I figured it would be nice to have some journaling that is hidden, and not everyone would read. Something just for her. Because she is so special, strong and brave. She gives me so many reasons to smile!

Here is a look at my finished layout.

You can also watch the process video I made to go with this layout.

I hope you have been enjoying this blog hop so far. I love seeing all the inspiration that all the crafters share during the pep rally. It always gives me a boost to get up and create something!! I hope you continue on and check out Charity’s blog!!

December Clique Kits Pep Rally Bolg Hop

Aloha Scrappers!! It’s that lovely time again, where the members of Clique Kits get together and share some of the things they creating with their December Girl Cave Kit. At the end of the blog post I will have the line so you can make sure you visited everyone, and so you can continue on in the Hop.

The Girl Cave Kit included Pink Paislee Memorandum. Like always I love this kit, this kit has an amazing acetate piece that has cut aparts with crisp images and bold colors. Gorgeous!!

I feel in love with the aquas in this collection!! I really wanted to play with a monochromatic type of layout. I remembered I had a photo of my son from Thanksgiving and he is wearing a aqua and blue shirt that went really well with the colors in this kit.

My son is so silly! Every chance he gets he is trying to get us to laugh. He is our family comedian!! On Thanksgiving in order to get a serious picture of him I had to let him do some silly photos. I really wanted to scrap this memory! IMG_4490

I really wanted to use white card stock as my background but knew that is needed something to help add a splash of color. At this point I didn’t know what I was going to do with my papers at all. I took some dark blue paint and some aqua paint and created an ombre effect with the paint. trying to stay more toward the middle of my paper. I still wanted white to show, and have peeks of the blue and aqua pop out from under the photos and paper.

After the paint dried I used one of the pattern papers from the kit to border the white paper. I have been liking this technique lately of drawing your eye into the layout. Plus if I cut the middle out of my patterned paper I still get good mileage out of my paper.

I decided to cut many of the blue/aqua and white papers into strips. I was thinking it would be fun to line them close to the sides of the layout. having the papers be lined up opposite on each side.

I added the photos ( I used a 4×6 and 4×4 sized photo) in the middle, overlapping them for interest.

I also added one of the beautiful acetate from the kit to the photo cluster. The gold and cameras were a great match to layout. I added a gold die cute word on the bottom of the picture as well. This helped tie the gold from above the photos.

I then looked through the embellishments in the kit, the cut apart sheet that came with the kit and a few pieces from last months kit. I added these embellishments on the strips of paper on the sides of the layout. I did this instead of the traditional triangle of embellishment. I really like how the different shades of blue, aqua and gold look on the sides of the photos. all the different textures from the embellishments really added a fun aspect that mirrors my son’s silliness.

For the title I added the cutest wood veneer piece ever (a pair of glasses), under the photos. I added part of the alpha’s from the kit, which were Bella Blvd alphas, on top of the glasses. The second part of the title I added under the glasses. I used a different color for the second word, but added one letter the color from the first word. I really love how that looks.

After working on a lot of christmas themed layouts, and my December Daily album, I am really enjoying using this month’s kit. Especially since Hawaii isn’t very cold or have that traditional christmas feel, it is a nice treat. I am hoping to make a christmas layout using this kit too though, for just that reason.

November Clique Kit Pep Rally Blog Hop

Welcome Scrappers!! If you’ve been following the Clique Kit blog hop you just came from Charity’s blog. Welcome!! Welcome!! If yon’t seen all the amazing layouts and projects from the other ladies in the Clique Kit blog hop, there will be a list at the end of this blog post, so you can go back and feast your eyes some more.

This month we received the Tapestry Kit for November, which had mostly the WRMK Wildflower Collection. This collection and Kit is gorgeous and perfect for Autumn. I love all the texture on the paper too. It really inspired me on many of the layouts I made so far.

This month in the store as an add on I spied gelatos! I couldn’t pass them up. It really has been a while since I played with gelatos, and when I got my kit that was what I was most excited to use. They really inIMG_4136spired me on this layout.
I love how gelatos help give you that watercolor look without much work. They are easy to use and easy to wipe away with gesso, if you add too much. They really give a nice mixed media look without having much knowledge of mixed media techniques.

I choose to use three colors that were in my photo, and covered most of the background with the gelatos. I added a little water to mix and activate them. I was careful to clean my big brush so I didn’t mix the colors together though. The colors were a little bright (it’s a little hard to imagine me saying that, right?). The colors were a little neon for the colors in the papers. Though the green was a deep olive green, matching great with my photo.

I used a feather stencil from my stash to wipe off some of the gelatos with a wet paper towel. This helped a little with the color but it still needed to be toned down before I added my paper layers and embellishments. I also carefully added some pearlized white paint, I really didn’t want the gelatos  to mix with the paint I just wanted the paint to cover the color a little and tone it down. I like the shimmery look of the pearlized white and that it is much more translucent than regular white paint.

Lately I have been looking through older family photos. I spotted this old family portrait we took in 2003 for my grandmother. We were still all together in the same area so it is nice to have a snapshot of us all together. Especially afterIMG_4143 many of us have moved away and don’t see each often. We all dressed in Autumn colors and went to a local bridge to get some really nice shots of us near the colored Autumn leaves in the background. Even though I only have this one little photo I still wanted to make sure I scrapped it to put in my album to remember all of them. I knew the colors in this photo would work really well with this kit too.

To try to complement the fact that my only photo is so small (especially on a 12×12 layout) I added a frame off set to the side of the photo. I kept it open, and only added embellishments around the sides of the framIMG_4140e. At first I thought I might add a few embellishments to the middle of the frame, but decided I liked the open space, and really wanted to keep this layout simple. The bows from WRMK’s for this collection were adorable and perfect for this.

I used lots of layers behind my photo. All these layers just make me happy. I even used the glassine the embellishments came in as a layer. I love how all the colors in the papers work together in the layers. They worked really well with distressed and torn edges too. I also decided to use a tag from the cut apart sheet as a layer and added it slightly askew for interest. The feather clips from Pink Paislee really helped add a nice texture to my layers too.

I wanted to add a few extra embellishments and something at the bottom for extra interest. I wanted everything to work together though, because IMG_4137of all the color going on. The bottom I used gold and neutral colors with a wood heart from Pink fresh Studios and some yellow enamel dots.

I added some butterflies with the wings popped up and used green and orange enamel dots to match the colors on the background.

IMG_4142I used the alpha stickers from the sticker sheet for the bottom part of the title with a banner under the photo. The dark blue and gold are so sharp. They worked so well with the Word thickers in gold fro the collection that I bought as an add on. I used the word Lovely as part of the title, and placed it up above the picture. I don’t always like to separate the title but I was hoping this keep your eye more on the photo with it apart like that.

I definitely look forward to creating more with this kit too. I still have plenty more even though I have made quite a few layouts so far.

I  posted a process video for this layout on my Youtube channel. You can watch it Here.

October “Funfetti” Clique Kits Blog Hop: Smile Big

Aloha Scrappers, It that time of the month that I join in with many of the members over Clique Kits and share what I have been making with my month’s kit. This month we are using the Funfetti October Kit made mostly of Pink Fresh Studios Happy Things Collection.

IMG_0021At the end of my post I will have the list of all the ladies who are joining in on the blog hop. I will mark who is next after me as well so you can keep going on the hop. I love seeing everyone’s layouts and projects. It helps me keep up my creative juices for the last bits of my kit left.

This month has been super busy and I haven’t had as much time to scrap, I only made three layouts with my kit. I love how whimsy this collection is though, even if it makes me have to think outside of the box to use. IMG_0026

The layout I am sharing with you today is an older picture of my Husband and daughter inside a military tank. Every year the post we used to live on in Texas hosted an air show, and had tons of jets and tanks. The kids got to go inside the tanks they had out, which was really cool. When they stuck their head out I took a quick picture.

Let’s talk about my background for a second, You ever have a background that you made and then decided not to use, but thought you would keep it incase you wanted to use it later? Well that is what happened with this background. Earlier last week, I painted some yellow paint from an old Clique kit, and some blue Tim HIMG_0023oltz distress paint randomly on a background. The background didn’t work for the layout I made earlier and I just kept trying to use it as a background. I really didn’t want to have to toss it out. But today when making this layout it worked. The blue from the sky matches perfectly with my photo.

Because of all the color, yellow and blue, going on in the background, I decided to keep my background papers fairly natural. This collection has lots of gray mixed in with the other colors. I took one of the gray striped patterned papers and cut it so mostly of the color and shapes weren’t showing. I IMG_0020cut it into stripes and relined them back up on the middle of the layout. I figured I could add my photo on top of that when it was time to add the photo.

I made sure I added a little ink and distressed my strips slightly just to add texture to my layout. I also cut out a few of the boxes of words out of the cut apart sheet. I thought maybe I could use the gray ones and maybe another one with either yellow or teal.  IMG_0024

It took a little while to figure on placement. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do a simple grid design or something else. I decided to add two boxes to the top of the middle strip and one under the strip. Now it was time to figure out my layers behind my photo.

Like I said I really was trying to stick to the gray, blue and yellow colors. Nice and simple because of IMG_0022all the color. I used a gray leaf pattern, a white and multi colored bow tie pattern and a yellow stripped pattern from my stash to make up the layers. The bow tie paper I was careful not
to show the bow ties that had different colors from my layout. I added a blue ombre tag from the kit next to my photo.

I used a cut apart from the exclusive sheet in the kit, which I really like a lot.  I used some of the wood pieces from the kit around the layout, as well as somIMG_3638e bow tie and hearts from the Happy Things word phrase glitter set.

I used Smile Big from the puffy sticker sheet as my title. The Black and
yellow really look sharp on the layout next to the tag.

I ended with some sequins from the Clique Store and a few grey sequins from Pink Fresh Studios.

This layout was fairly simple but really fun to make. I love all the color on my page, it really helps make this story a fun one to add to my family album.

I really hope you had fun today here, and don’t forget to head over to Evi’s blog to see what she created this month.

September Clique Kits Blog Hop

Aloha Scrappers!! I am so excited to participate in the Clique Kit Blog Hop again this month!! This time on the month is becoming my favorite time of the month!! I love sharing what I have made with my kit so far, but also getting even more inspired by all the other members. It is the kick in the butt I need to finish up my kit, so I can drool over next months kit!!

I will have the line up at the end of this post, so you can follow the hop. Or start at the beginning if you started out here.

I know I say this almost every month but I am so in love with this kit this month. I never realized I like Cocoa Vanilla so much. This kit (The Capture Kit) had most of Cocoa Vanilla’s Hello Lovely. I love the watercolor feel it has, but all the black and gray’s mixed with lovely pink and blue colors, Drool!!   This kit made scrapping my girls so easy! I love when the kit I am using is pretty and so inspiring!!

I scrapped a picture of my girls from when school started, maybe sometime the first week or two. In order to try have a normal routine the kids have to get ready for school by getting dressed, brushing their teeth, putting all their toys away. This day in particular, the girls can running into the school room announcing they were twins that day!! They were dressed in similar clothes and had the same hats on!! It was very cute, so of course I had to take a picture of them. I am so glad I did too!! It’s one of my favorite pictures of them too.

To go along with their playful mood, I used the polka dot paper as the background. I did decide to matte that with a white cardstock and outline the patterned paper with a silver pen to look like stitching.

Also because I can’t help but do some kind of mixed media on my layouts I choose to add some grey color in some texture paste and used a stencil. I used a striped stencil from Amy Tangerine, I figured part of my photo and layers could go over part of the stripes. It would help add dimension to the photo cluster and look cool as part of the layers. The hearts I just randomly placed them around the layout.

As I waited for the texture paste to dry, I wanted to do something with the black IMG_2964crepe paper in the kit. It is a really cool element and I wanted to make sure I took advantage of it. I decided to fish tail the ends and fan it in the middle to add texture as a layer. At this point I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do with it. Just that I wanted it layered partially outside of the bottom of the photo.

I probably should mention that because I love this photo I printed it out at 5×7 so that it would take up more space on my layout!!

I grabbed some of the papers from my kit and started picking out patterns and colors that looked well together. I really have been on a black and white and pink kick lately so I was kinda looking at those types of colors for a couple of patterns behind my photo.

This is the AHA moment happened in this layout!! I remember a piece of toile that I had in my stash, and it was HOT PINK!! Yes, Hot pink! I laid it on top of that black crepe paper and it was perfect!! I then knew I wanted to use the black and pink vellum hearts I bought in the Clique store. I also decided that I wanted to fishtail the layers behind the photo. All these layers were on the bottom half of the picture. I also added a pink and cream paper from the Documentary Add-on from the Clique store too. All these colors and textures looked so awesome together!

I put my picture on pop dots to help with all the dimension underneath. It looked so cool I didn’t want to squish it either. Plus I wanted to be able to peek at all that texture goodness!!

I then went to build my clusters around the layout. I used the stenciled hearts as places to add my clusters. I made three maiIMG_2961n clusters, I usually like the way this looks. I layered vellum hearts from the kit with some die cuts too. I also added some black watercolor hearts and words from the Pretty Little Studio word sheet in the kit.

I added the Title near the bottom cluster. I mixed the Evalicious Puffy letter stickers with some Thickers from my stash.

I love how layout turned out. I still have to add my journaling but I will do that when I put it int he protectors. I will probably add the journaling to the back this time, so it is easy to read but so I have enough space to write this cute story.

Don’t forget to check out the rest of the blog hop!! There are so many talented ladies sharing today!! Here is the line up today:

August Clique Kits Pep Rally

clique august kit

Aloha Scrappers!!! Welcome to my scrappy place!! I am taking part again in the Clique Kits Pep Rally. A bunch of us blog and post some of what we made with our August Ambrosia Kit using the Pink Paislee Citrus Bliss collection. If you followed the  list I should be the last post you are seeing today!!! If not you can stop back at the Clique Kits Blog and go through the rest of the line up or stroll to tIMG_2507he bottom and go through the list down below!!

I love the summery and fresh colors from this collection. It is perfect for someone living in a warm place all year long!! But I also love how versatile this kit and collection is too. The layout I will be sharing with you today is some leftover photos I had from my brothers wedding last August. It was nice reliving that beautiful, even though it was hot, day bringing two families together.

I used a professional picture that my brother and sister in law give me of the wedding party and paired it with some random photos I took of things from around the wedding. The wedding was decorated to have a country flare but very romantic, with hanging glowing lights and pretty flowers matching the bridesmaids yellow dresses.

I loved all the country touches of the lemonade stand and classic and simple white vases for holding the drinking water. Our custom mason jar cups were a fun touch too. The orchards where the wedding venue was held also held a romantic and country charm. I wanted to capture this all with my layout.

The citrus theme of the collection added a nice place to start. The thing I loved though the yellows and grays of this collection were the perfect balance of brightness and softness. It was perfect for wedding photos. I love how I could scrap a wedding and not feel over the top wedding but also tie in the lemonade theme from my photos.

I started with blue acrylic paint mixed in with some white pearlized paint. I used a wide paintbrush so I would get bigger brush strokes on the page. I added hints of yellow watercolor to the corners to tone down the dark blue but also so I could tie the yellow in the photos and in the papers together.

IMG_2570I layered a few of the neutral grey papers and a little yellow behind
the main photo of the wedding party at the head table. I also used a piece of vellum from the Dear Lizzy Fine and Dandy Collection from my stash as a layer. I gold foiled squares picks up of the yellows and was perfect!!

I had smaller photos from around the wedding venue that I lined up uneven under the main photo. I used that amazing lemon slice paper under the small photos. It was perfect. I love how busy it is so it draws your eye into the group of small photos. If I would have changed anything on my layout, I would have maybe made my small photos a little lighter. The dIMG_2510arkness of them looks fine on the light yellow patterned paper, but I feel they make the venue feel a little darker than it really was during the day. Streams of golden sunlight shined in through the trees and it was magical.

I used as many of the lemon themed embellishments as I thought could work. Plus I figured I wouldn’t have too many places where I needed them. The wood veneer, add on from the collection were perfect on this page. I love that texture the wood gives but it tied really nice nice with the country feel of the photos.

At the bottom I added a cluster with pieces of paper from the top half of the layout. It was a nice place to add more wood and embellishments, I like really the acetate lemonade cup! I thoIMG_2508ught I might want to journal in one of the circles, but later decided I needed more space so I journaled on the right bottom side of the layout with a blue journaling marker.

I finished off the layout with a few puffy stickers, the Pink Fresh Studios  IMG_2448button beads, and dark blue mist. I didn’t add a title because the Perfect Day wood veneer was just the right touch for the layout title.

Thanks for stoping by and taking a look at my layout!! I hope I inspired you to use a collection in a different way then maybe they intended. I love the way this way of thinking looks in my albums.

Make sure you have checked out all the talented ladies sharing in this Blog Hop, I love seeing what everyone created with their kits and it gives me more inspiration to use up the last bits of my kit too!!

Until next time, Aloha!!!

Clique Kits Pep Rally Post: Two ways to use a sketch

1436398006Aloha my scrappy friends!!

I thought I would do something a little different today on my blog, first I am joining in for the first time in the Clique Kits Pep Rally. I love their Pep Rally and always enjoy hopping from one blog to the next looking atcliquekitsanythinggoeschallenge what different members did with their kits. And I am also going to post about two layouts today!!   I decided to use sketch from Clique Kits this month by Amanda O’Banion. This sketch was really fun I thought I would create another layout after I used it once, but with a twist. The first layout I am sharing is a traditional 12X12 layout. I used my July Carpe Diem Clique Kit. This kit uses the Chickaniddy 365 collection. I love the classic look of the black and white, with the pops of bright colors. It was fun using a collection I wouldn’t have normally bought in the store. The black and white really leant well for adding lots of right mixed media too, which is always a great thing in my opinion.

In my layout Papa’s Chair, I started off with patterned paper as my background. I actually don’t do this often with mixed media. I generally like the blank slate white yardstick gives me, but I really like the paper with the sheet music on it. I thought it would go well with my photos of my kids with their dad, IMG_2056especially because their laughter is sweet music to my ears. I used white gesso to tone down the pattern.  I used the sketch as a guide as to where I would place the clusters of media.  I added twisted citron from the reinker, with a paint brush and water, like a watercolor. I let the three groups of color drip a little. This distress ink dries light so I needed to re apply the color, but it turned out this gorgeous lime green.  I used just a basic bright blue watercolor and applied it the same way as the citron color. The watercolor is more opaque so I only needed to put it on once. I let it IMG_2044dry between each color, which is hard. I didn’t want to use my heat gun this time, I really wanted to keep the drip lines as is and I find when you use the heat gun it pushes the watercolor all over the page. Sometimes I really like the look it gives, especially when the colors mix together and make new colors but today i didn’t want that look

I then used my hero arts stencil from the clique kits store, and used a mix of two blue ink pads to ink dots in the areas of the watercolor. It looks so cool! It is often at these moments I think I must be crazy that I am going to be covering it up but this is the nature of the scrapbooking game for me. I really just love to play with all these art type products and if even only a smidgen peaks out it is always worth the work I put iIMG_2053nto doing all these extra steps.

I picked out papers in mostly black and white. with all the bright colors in the media, I thought it would help the layout not look really busy. I picked out one paper with pluses that had color just to mix it up. I thought the coral color was a nice opposite from the green/blue colors on my background. On one of the black and white papers I used the watercolors and stencil on it to match the background paper. I backed my photos in a teal MY Minds Eye Cardstock.IMG_2055

I decided not to fishtail one of my layers like the sketch, I think it looked better without it. I then picked out the background paper to back the mix media paper on. I chose a nice light blue in a ombre and triangle type of pattern. At first I almost went with a kraft paper with red dots, to match the dots like the stencil, but I didn’t like the red color with the coral color. And the kraft just didn’t look right. It was a pain to retake that layer off but it was worth it in the end.

I followed the sketch pretty literal this time with the clusters and the title. I did this so I could play a little more with color. I grabbed my paints out again. I used an old alpha from a precious Clique Kit with Amy Tan Rise and Shine stuff, and used the Kraft Everyday Thickers. I love how skinny this alpha is, and the Kraft lends easily to change the color if you need too. I mixed the blue, teal and citronIMG_2051 inks with a little white acrylic paint, aIMG_2048nd made a cool ombre effect, starting with the dark and going to the light green.  I mixed these with the Chickaniddy’s black and white striped alpha, with a light ink wash on them. When I applied the striped alpha’s to my layout I outlined them to help the stand out a little more, I find they are kinda hard to read otherwise.

Each cluster had cut aparts from the Paper add on from the July Kit which was the Seven Paper from Studio Calico. I mixed those with enamel shapes, small banners, and word stickers from the add ons and the oringinal Maggie Holmes Accent sticker sheet. I added a fIMG_2049ew scattered in making ink sketchy hearts from the Mommy Lhey stamp set, that was offered as an add on. They were Hawaiian themed so I couldn’t resist and had to get them.

I really love how this layout turned out. I love scrapping the precious smiles of my kids. These photos were from 2012 and I love going back and seeing pictures of when my kids were much smaller. These pictures were took on different days but was a common occurrence in our house. The kids loved cuddling with Daddy while he sat at his desk and played on the computer. Even now the kids still try to sit with Daddy when they aren’t busy playing with their toys!! These are moments I don’t want to forget when they grow older and want to do their own thing.

For My second layout I decided to do a 8 1/2 X 11 layout, Called Until The Cows Come Home!! I didn’t to do this because I am going to be starting a new series on my YT channel where I scrap old family photos and start to journal the stories from my family. I love famIMG_2020ily history and I really don’t want to lose these amazing stories because I simply didn’t take the time to write them down.

I am using photos that were given to me by other family members so most of them will be copies and not the best quality but I think when you are scrapping old photos it really needs to be about the journaling and telling of the stories inIMG_2024stead of the quality of the photo.

I did a little mixed media on the layout, following the clusters as on the sketch. I really want to fretting up these old photos, and make them feel a little more current, because the story I am telling is the love of what my family member did for a living.

My great grandmother and her brother grew up in Upstate NewYork on a farm, and it was a family affair and what they loved to do. whether it was because it really was all they knew or didn’t have the money to break free from the country way of life, I know they truly loved this life they helped build. My great grand mother’s brother even went as far as having his photo taken with his cows. this thought really makes me smile. Growing up seeing milk cows all over, I love that my family members loved nature and all that surrounded them that they took the time to have it photographed at a time when you saved pictures for things you really loved and held dear.

The papers I usedIMG_2022 were mostly from the main July Clique Kits, the Chickaniddy 365 collection. This collection went perfect with the black and white photos, and added the color that was missing from these old photographs. I used lots of green and blues, to mimic the colors that would have been there originally in the grass and sky. The black and white definitely made my think of the spots from the cows too.

I used embellishments fro last month’s June kit, from the CrIMG_2025ate Paper Journey collection. The sentiments on them went perfectly with the theme of what I will be journalling later this week. I will be journaling on the back, so I have enough space to tell the story of my great grand mother’s brother and his farm!

For the title I mixed July’s alpha’s with the block alpha’s from the Journey Collection sticker sheet. I liked the mix of black and white with the natural look of the cork. I ended with tIMG_2021he enamel shapes that came in the kit, the key was perfect!!

I ended the layout with Heidi Swapp black velvet Color Shine Splatters.

I really liked using this sketch with this smaller size. Even with two photos I didn’t think it was too crowded. It also helped me keep the layout simple so I could focus more on the story and journaling I want to add.IMG_2019

I have a process video for this layout. Click here and watch my whole process.
