For The Love Of Homemade Kits: At Dawn’s Early Light

Aloha Scrappers!! I wanted to make sure I remembered to share my For The Love Of Homemade Kits layouts I have been making with my current stash kit.

Us youtube ladies have been plugging along using our kits up. tomorrow, Tuesday is our last layout with this kit. Then we start a brand new kit.

I love the bold patterns in this kit I made, Which is inspired by Amy Tangerine, Finders Keepers. I decided it would be fun to cut out plus signs with all my patterns to impact.

img_9411

I used all the patterns I used in my plus signs to layer behind my photo. This helps connects them on the layout.

img_9418

img_9419

I outlined all the plus signs so they would pop off the page.

img_9415

I added some stamping to my photo, in the white space to draw your eye to my daughter and husband’s hands.

I also used a L design in a very loose way with my title going out from the photo to the right side of my layout. Having the Title start where their hands were also helped draw your eye there as well.

img_9414

If there is one thing I wished I could change about this layout, it would be this. I wished I anted to glue my thickers down. I didn’t think before adding glue right to these thickers. This brand was especially un-sticky. Early is right on top of the black plus sign and I think if makes it look weird. It could me be nit picky so I am just letting it go.

I used arrows bringing moved back toward the photo. I probably didn’t need them but they were in my kit, so I did.

img_9422

I added this Elle’s Studio journaling card in some open space on the right side of the layout.  I used a stamp set designed by Amy Tangerine for a class I took in Honolulu in August of 2015. I wanted to use this stamp because the race we went to go see was the Aloha Run in Honolulu.

I think this journaling card wasn’t needed but pin our kits we wanted to use journaling cards to use them up. It was a great place to have a special area for the journaling I wanted to tell on this layout. Which I know I could have wrote right on the background. And normally I do, and I wanted to try to do something a little different.

I used some washi tape around and a cork sticker. I kept the embellishments really light though. There is a lot going on from the patterns on this layout. I really didn’t want to overwhelm the layout.

img_9420

This layout was really fun to make. This photo is so precious!! It really has sat in my photo pile way to long.

For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Round 6 Kit Share

Aloha My Scrappy friends!! Can you believe we are starting another Round of For The Love Of Homemade Kits!!! This past month has just flown by, literally. School is starting, fall is in the air, my puppy is getting huge and we have already been in our new house for a whole month.

This month for our kits we are going to be using Amy Tangerine’s Finders Keepers ephemera pack as our inspiration to make our kits. This is the first time we are doing that. After a while it is actually hard to find older papers we all have, since we all have different tastes. Plus we thought it would be fun to change things up a little. You know I really liked using a die cut pack as the inspiration. It is really cool to see how we each interpreted the style to match our own.

We are still using a recipe to build our kits like before, which makes our kits similar in some ways but different because we are using our own stash, likes and leaving our dislike out of the mix.

FTLOHK: This Boy Totally Has Swagger

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! Happy Hump Day!! Today feels like a tuesday for me, having a monday holiday always throws me off my game. Throw in the Hubby’s new work schedule, new doctor appts this week and school starting this week too. It is super crazy and that’s just life, right?!

I am a little late in posting this layout and video, but I think you will agree that it was worth that wait.

I am loving the fun and bright colors in this new kit I made. (I have a blog post coming up later today sharing all that is in my homemade kit this round too.)

I was inspired by the plus paper from Amy Tangerine and this cute photo of my son wearing my brothers baseball hat!! He totally has swagger, with his button down shirt!! That boy knows how to look sharp!

I used a sketch from Citrus Twist to get me started.

ctk_aug_sketch_angie

Here is a look at my completed layout.

img_9078

I ended up adding a few scrap papers from my desk on this layout to bring in some more black and white. And this blue paint splatters branding strip from a new Dear Lizzy Paper fits perfect on the layout too.

img_9072

I love how this stamp really pops in this cluster!!

img_9073

I outlined around my paper layers to draw your eye into the photo.

img_9075

I kept the embellishing really simple this time. Using rub ons and black and white splatters ties all the neutral papers that I added to my page together too. I also used a journaling card instead of a second photo, which made my journaling stand out.

img_9070

This title is so much fun!! I love the look of all the different fonts for an electric look!!

You can watch my process video here.

Hope you enjoyed this episode of For the love of homemade kits today!! I am loving doing this series and using up my stash! If you make a homemade stash kit with our recipe be sure to link or tag us so we can be inspired by your creations too!!

Have an inspired hump day!!

FTLOHK: Lovely Details Recorded

Aloha My scrappy Friends!!

I am super excited!! I finally have posted my first process video up since moving into our new house!! I could tell as I was editing it, that I am very much out of practice!! But it was so much fun. I have missed doing process videos. It is where I started.

I started doing process video only a few months after I started scrapbooking, I was so inspired by all the creativity and talent that I had to share what I was doing as well. I have been filming so long, and almost every layout that I make, that it really is odd not to do a process video when I scrap.

After not making videos for a couple of months, as nice as it was to have a break I really did miss it. And miss that platform. I find for me as a scrapbooker I have learned so much about myself and my style through making videos that I have a hard time thinking of not making videos as a form of sharing.

Okay, so back to this week’s layout for my series For The Love Of Homemade Kits. I am loving this kit!! I know I say that almost overtime too. But it is just so much fun making my own kit, and finding stories and photos that I think go well to together for the feel of the kit. It’s a challenge capturing the essence of the kit and building that on a layout.

I have quite a few ideas for this kit, if only time was on my side to do them all in one day!!

Here is this first layout I made with this kit.

IMG_8231

I wanted to scrap this picture I had taken in February, of my cousins and I when we were all together. I haven’t seen some of them in about 7 years and some it’s even been longer. It was so nice to have the afternoon to sit around, eat and tell old stories that we remember.

That’s what we do every time we are all together too, listen to the stories that may or may not have been told before, and many of them have been told more than once. But to be together and laugh and eat it’s what we do.

I choose to use the paper that had what looks like book ends on it, and cut them up and add them to my back ground like I was adding books to a book shelf. I really love this look with different sizes and lengths of strips of paper.

IMG_8236

I wanted to keep it simple. So I added some strips of phrases throughout the layout. They added some interest without being really bulky.

IMG_8235

This Dear Lizzy Sticker phrase was perfect, because it was clear. It made it easier to layer over some ephemera I had left over from the Open Book embellishment pack from a couple of years ago.

IMG_8232

I love the circles too. They give some different angles with all the strips of paper.

IMG_8234

I love how this teal on these brads looks with the mustard yellows in this kit!! And Aren’t those black hearts from Dear Lizzy’s new collection Saturdays so darling?!!

I used the Chipboard letters Lovely for my Title. I love the look of the different patterns on each letter. I added vellum right on top of them for the rest of my title.

IMG_8229

Here is a look at the whole layout.

IMG_8228

I am not completely happy with the color blue of the border on the layout. But I really didn’t want to tear everything else up. I really like how the rest of it ended up. So until I decide what I am going to do (I have thought about using some what tape in a different color)I will just leave it. I also journaled on my layout after I took photos of my layout.

Here is the process video I made for this layout.

Don’t forget to check out Felicia’s and Khristina’s Layouts too. If you play along tag us, so we can be inspired with the kits you make!!

Have an inspired week!! Can’t wait to see you later!! (Have I said how happy I am to be back !!)

For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Round 3 Kit Share

Aloha!! I am super excited for another round of For The Love Of Homemade Kits!! It has been so much fun using up some of my stash and creating a kit from the fun and cool scrappy things I have collected.

For this series we start each round with an inspiration piece of pattern paper. This piece helps give us an idea of how to pick other pieces and patterns to form a kit. Because we each are using our own stash, each kit is different, but similar. (By we, I mean Crafty Meggy, Felicia Young and Khristina Sorge are working together to use our own kits this month.) We then use a recipe to help pick out papers and embellishments.

Let’s get right into the Recipe we are using this round. It’s a little different from the last one. (We felt it would be good to twist it a little.)

I also wanted to give a heads up that I am completely in the misted of a move. my stuff is getting packed and then I will be out of my house this week and next. I am hoping that all my layouts will be ready for Youtube by the time I leave, but they may not. So I will keep everyone updated on my new Facebook Page (which is like a blog on Facebook) what layouts will be in video forma and what will just have a blog. I am hoping to also in my moving process to be doing some Vlogs and fun stuff on my Channel. For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Round 2 Kill a Kit

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! I can’t believe we finished another round of this series!! Crazy right?! I am having so much fun making and using these kits.

Here is what I started off with.

IMG_6267

Here is all the paper I have left over from my kit.

IMG_7395

I could probably get another layout or two out of this paper. I still have tons of embellishments and stickers left. I barely used the sticker sheets, this time.  I would have liked to have used my stamps more too, I think if I make another layout later I will try to use the stamps a little more.

Here are all the layouts i got done with this kit.

IMG_6353

i love all the journaling on this layout!! And the story!! I think it’s one of my fave’s this year!

IMG_6507

I love that I was able to use pictures that I took while taking an online class. It’s cool to incorporate the things I am learning in the classes I am taking.

IMG_6953

This layout is about a whale watch my friend and I took in Boston when we were in college. I liked the idea of adding some older photos and try to make them feel more modern by adding some some trendy prints on the layout.

IMG_7196

This layout is my last of this kit. I used two cut files for this, one for the back ground and one for the font. Both are from The Cut Shoppe. I did add that background paper to my kit, because it was perfect for the story I wanted to tell. Star gazing and looking for the planet Mars a couple of weeks ago. I kept this layout really simple and let the cut file and pictures be star in this layout.

Like I mentioned up above, with the paper and embellishments left over I could have done another one or two layouts. (if only I was n’t preparing to move!) I am really thinking of keeping a few of these paper scraps, like that flower pattern and come up with something pretty.

I really think doing this series is really helping me see the things I have and that I really enjoy using and the things I have that I use just because I got them in kits, or because I thought I needed it. Like those little phrase stickers from the I am collection from Simple Stories or the clear stickers from the Starshine Collection by Shimelle. I really think that from now on I am going to be making better buying decisions.

I am super excited to get started using my new kit too. I am going to be doing another post on our new recipe and my picks for this new kit.

For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Camera Woman In The Mirror

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! It’s that time again, time to use my Homemade Stash Kit. This will be layout number 2 with this kit. To see what is in this kit click here.

I am really loving this kit too. The colors, so fun.

I was inspired by Ashley Horton this week. She used this Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello cut file, that she made for the April Hip Kit. She shared how she used in a recent Youtube process video.

I used my wood grain patterned paper (Maggie Holmes, Bloom, Lizzy) for the cursive Hello’s and then added under the Hello’s a dark Navy paper (Shimelle, Starshine, Hubble). I love how this cut file just pops on my page.

IMG_6511

I really wanted to keep this layout simple. That seems to be a theme for me. I used quite a bit of thin strips of patterned paper and wash tape.

IMG_6515

I really wanted to focus on the journaling and the photo. The photo I used is a self portrait, Me holding my camera in our outside sliding door. I love how I am reflecting as well as the big tree outside.

IMG_6522

I love this concept of seeing me in the world around me.

IMG_6517

I wrote tons of journaling too.

IMG_6516

I love that I have a place to talk about the things that have influenced me to become a story teller, a scrapbooker, a documenter of my families journey!! I have always grew up having photos be a big part of my childhood. And not in the sense that pictures or cameras were always being used. I am sure they were used quite a lot, but the focus was more of the photos. I remember almost every time we had big get togethers at my grandmothers house we would pull out the photo albums and tell the stories of what or who were all in these photos. My grandmother would often tell us these stories like the picture was just taken, last month. Do you remember when .. And I was about three in the photo. I wish I could remember, but these stories have be engrained in me that it is almost like I do remember!!

I am so glad I can pass this down to my children. This need to take pics, have my focus be portrayed and be able to print and tel these stories to my kids so that they can remember too. It is a priceless gift. A friend as just telling me the other day of an aunt who died, that was a scrapbooker. She had left behind tons of scrapbooks with tons of pictures and memorabilia and stories. Stories that she had compiled since the 1950s. They were able to all sit back and relive all the great times they had as a family by sharing her scrapbooks with each other. This story is precious!! I hope I can leave this type of legacy for my family, the legacy of what good times we had as a family, the things we loved, they things we did together, who we were than and now. The legacy of pictures and stories of our lives.

The historian in me knows that the more you know about your past and what came before the easier it is to know who we are now, and who we want to become!! That is such a profound legacy to leave.

IMG_6509

We all have our gifts, and I love that my family has helps give and engrain in me mine!! That I can use my camera to help tell my stories!!

IMG_6512

The I am collection by Simple Stories was perfect for this layout.

IMG_6518

And aren’t those Color Cast Design stars so cute!!

IMG_6513

I also used some enamel dots and Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold to finish off my layout.

IMG_6523

I love the way this whole layout turned out!! You can watch the process video here.

IMG_6507

Don’t forget that Crafty Meggy and Felicia also have made and are sharing the second layout with their version of this homemade stash kit. By clicking on their names you you be directed to their Youtube Channel and process video.

Thanks for joining me today!! I hope you were inspired today!!

Also come back this week as I will be sharing my progress on Week In The Life.

Aloha, Hannah

For the love of Homemade Kits:Happy Ricotta Pie

Aloha Scrapbookers!! It’s Tuesday and do you know what that means?!! I am sharing another layout in my homemade stash kit series. We are using a new kit this week. the main inspiration paper is from the Maggie Holmes Shine Collection (Memento).

Here is a look at the new kit, just in case you didn’t see my post last week.

IMG_6267.jpg

This week I thought I would jump right in and use the inspiration paper. When I seen that paper I already had a story in mind. I liked the idea of using the numbers from that sheet so I fussy cut them out. They really are symbolic of the years passing. That this is something that has happened a number of times.

IMG_6355

I knew I would probably need tons of space to journal. This layout is really about the story. I kept it simple. I didn’t use lots of layers like I normally do. I also kept the embellishment clusters simple too.

IMG_6356.jpg

I love how this frame looks over this picture of Ricotta pie.

I love the story i am telling with this layout. I really have found that story telling, on my layouts is becoming a big part of how I want to scrapbook. This layout is about Easter Ricotta Pie. growing up every year my mom and I made this pie. I stirred the Italian cream until my arm felt like it would fall off too. It just was tradition to make this pie for Easter. We only made it on Easter too. It is so yummy, with it’s sweet cherries and rich chocolate chips. We eat it cold, and for breakfast easter morning and for dessert in the late evening. My dad likes to be the official taste tester when it’s done cooking to make sure it’s perfect. (I think he just can’t wait until Easter Sunday morning to take a bit, though, he isn’t fooling me.)

My mom got the recipe from a family friend as a teenager, and she has made it so many times, she doesn’t even need the recipe. When I moved out in college, this was one of the recipes I HAD to have. I have been making it every Easter since I left home too. It just isn’t Easter if I don’t make it.

I love that now Cayden is starting to learn and help make our family tradition!! This year she helped stir the Italian cream (which is pretty much a very basic pudding). Her arm was getting tired, but it’s all part of the process. The pain is worth it, when you take a bite of this silky smooth pie.

The picture I am using is Cayden stirring the Italian cream. I made it black and white so that just the image was what you saw. Plus with all the color on the page, I think it looks better.

IMG_6360.jpg

We had a stamp in our kit and I stamped hearts in the clusters. I love this simple little touch.

IMG_6361.jpg

I also used splatters in each cluster, in colors that matched the numbers.

IMG_6359.jpg

I built this cluster partially on top of the photo. I ended up adding different alpha’s. The white reminds me of ricotta though. The gold is a pretty touch and ties in with the other gold on the layout.

IMG_6365.jpg

You can watch the process video below,

IMG_6353

Don’t forget to check out Megan’s layout and video.

Also Felicia’s Layout and process video, who is joining Megan and me.

We will be back again next Tuesday with another layout from our second round of this Homemade Stash kit. I hope you are looking forward to it.

Have a great week!!

For the love of homemade kits: New kit share Round Two

Aloha Scrappers!! I am super excited to share this new recipe and kit with you today!! I can’t believe we just finished our first round of this series and now going to start another round, round two!!

This Round I really tried to simplify my kit more. Also Megan and I decided to add another layout to our line up. After me really being able to get so much out of my first kit, we figured it would be more challenging for us to try to make 4 layouts with this kit.

Also this round we have another Youtube joining in on the fun, My friend Felicia Young is joining in. She will be sharing her kit this week as well. Then next week she will be posting her layouts on her Youtube channel. Be sure to check out the links and see what both Felicia and Megan make and come up with. Also if you want to join us, be sure to share, with us your homemade kits!! We really want to inspire you to use your stash up and create layouts you love!!

Here is the recipe we used this time, we did change it up a little,

Inspiration paper: Maggie Holmes Shine Memento

I love this idea of starting off a kit with an Inspiration Piece, this really should be no surprise, since I have put together a whole youtube channel that uses inspiration pieces to start with. (though that is neither here no there..) An inspiration piece really helps to be able to tie things together some how. no matter how you use to interpret that piece.

We are using the same recipe for papers this round, which are,

  • a geometric paper
  • texture pattern (ie. woodgrain, fabric, brick, etc)
  • Stripe
  • Freebie pattern of our choice
  • 6×6 piece paper

These are the papers I choose this round:

  • Pink Paislee C’est La Vie 01
  • Dear Lizzy Documentary Fancy Free
  • Maggie Holmes Bloom Lizzy
  • Shimelle Starshine Hubble
  • 6×6 Maggie Holmes Confetti Page (streamer Circles)

Here is a look at my Papers

IMG_6247

I really wanted to keep my papers fairly simple because the inspiration paper is bold and has tons of colors.

For the embellishment part of the recipe:

  • cut file
  • chipboard
  • stamp set
  • washi tape
  • tags
  • Sticker sheet
  • die cuts/ embellishment pack
  • enamel dots
  • free embellishment
  • 2 Alphas (Thickers, etc)

Let’s take a look at what I put in my kit:

For my alpha’s I picked Amy Tangerine Foam Thickers Thick and Thin in white and Pink Fresh Studio Happy Things Foam Phrase Words

I chose 2 sticker sheets, Maggie Holmes Bloom stickers(black, gold and clear) and Shimelle Starshine clear sticker sheet.

I am am bad about following rules (have I mentioned that..LOL) I have three freebie embellishments. I really want to use these so I don’t really feel bad about adding some extra’s in my kit. I have a pack of Maggie Holmes Bloom Hearts, Pink Fresh Studio Happy Things wood veneer, and Color Cast Designs acrylic stars.

For Dies cuts, I added Simple Stories I am die cuts as well as mixing in some digital die cuts that I bought from Claudia Van Rooijan’s Amy Collection at her Esty shop. (That collection was designed be Claudia herself)

My Stamp Set is one I recently bought from an online store Sakuralala, which was designed by Amy Tan. This stamp was just released when Amy came to Hawaii in April.

For my Chip board I picked Maggie Holmes Shine chipboard. (I actually had to sheets of this chip board so I really want to try to get most of that used up!!)

I have two rolls of wash tape, a pink glitter tape and a grey swiss dot wash tape.

I have enamel dots by Dear Lizzy ( believe they are from the Daydreamer collection) and one other pack from Allison Kreft #Happy.
