Double Vision Series: Strong Women

img_9955

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!!

For a little over a month I have been doing a double page layout series on my Youtube Channel. I have never been big on doing double page spreads. Doing this series, has helped me to focus differently on my layouts. To think ahead of time instead of just go with the flow.

This week I wanted to make a layout where I could focus on journaling. With the double page spread as my canvas I knew that would be a great space to have lots of journaling.

img_9967

A while ago I did a double page layout where I had a huge title, I took that as my inspiration. I loved how it looked to have a long title that was a poem quote in many different kinds of fonts. I knew that would look cool on this layout combined with lots of journaling.

img_9945

Since I do lots of ancestry research I love seeing what someone looks like on paper, through documents. But it is sometimes hard to really know their true motives behind all the decisions these papers show. The places they lived, the jobs they had, these are all part of the story, but why they do things is really the true meaning behind the story. t’s these stories that I want to tell on my pages. I want my kids and grandkids to one day look back and see all the traits of the people in our family!!

img_9963

That is how the idea got started for this double page spread. A spread about my grandmother and the strength she has passed down. A trait I am positive she had gotten from her mother too.  That has been passed down to me. I want my kids and grandkids know that this is such a great a positive trait to be given!!

I hope you check out my Youtube Video process and see how i created this layout.

Have a great weekend!!

What About Wednesday: Life Is Sweet

img_9389

Aloha my scrappy friends!! It’s hump day today, and my hubby’s weekend. So I am making the most of it, and spending some family time together today. This past couple of weeks is us getting into the rhythm of the school year and how that works with my husbands new schedule. It’s aways a challenge, but everything always feels right when we get into the habit and routine of spending time together, right?!

This week on What About Wednesday over at SpiegelMom Scraps I am talking about scrappy mojo and keeping my slumps at bay. With getting back into the routine of school and appts and my husbands schedule, it always effects my scrapbooking mojo.

There are some things I do to help make this process quick and hopefully painless so I can get the most out of my scrapbooking time. Because now that school is here I definitely don’t have as much free time.

Hope you check out my blog post and the layout I made to help jump start my mojo!!

For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Round 2 Kill a Kit

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! I can’t believe we finished another round of this series!! Crazy right?! I am having so much fun making and using these kits.

Here is what I started off with.

IMG_6267

Here is all the paper I have left over from my kit.

IMG_7395

I could probably get another layout or two out of this paper. I still have tons of embellishments and stickers left. I barely used the sticker sheets, this time.  I would have liked to have used my stamps more too, I think if I make another layout later I will try to use the stamps a little more.

Here are all the layouts i got done with this kit.

IMG_6353

i love all the journaling on this layout!! And the story!! I think it’s one of my fave’s this year!

IMG_6507

I love that I was able to use pictures that I took while taking an online class. It’s cool to incorporate the things I am learning in the classes I am taking.

IMG_6953

This layout is about a whale watch my friend and I took in Boston when we were in college. I liked the idea of adding some older photos and try to make them feel more modern by adding some some trendy prints on the layout.

IMG_7196

This layout is my last of this kit. I used two cut files for this, one for the back ground and one for the font. Both are from The Cut Shoppe. I did add that background paper to my kit, because it was perfect for the story I wanted to tell. Star gazing and looking for the planet Mars a couple of weeks ago. I kept this layout really simple and let the cut file and pictures be star in this layout.

Like I mentioned up above, with the paper and embellishments left over I could have done another one or two layouts. (if only I was n’t preparing to move!) I am really thinking of keeping a few of these paper scraps, like that flower pattern and come up with something pretty.

I really think doing this series is really helping me see the things I have and that I really enjoy using and the things I have that I use just because I got them in kits, or because I thought I needed it. Like those little phrase stickers from the I am collection from Simple Stories or the clear stickers from the Starshine Collection by Shimelle. I really think that from now on I am going to be making better buying decisions.

I am super excited to get started using my new kit too. I am going to be doing another post on our new recipe and my picks for this new kit.

For The Love Of Homemade Kits: Camera Woman In The Mirror

Aloha My Scrappy Friends!! It’s that time again, time to use my Homemade Stash Kit. This will be layout number 2 with this kit. To see what is in this kit click here.

I am really loving this kit too. The colors, so fun.

I was inspired by Ashley Horton this week. She used this Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello cut file, that she made for the April Hip Kit. She shared how she used in a recent Youtube process video.

I used my wood grain patterned paper (Maggie Holmes, Bloom, Lizzy) for the cursive Hello’s and then added under the Hello’s a dark Navy paper (Shimelle, Starshine, Hubble). I love how this cut file just pops on my page.

IMG_6511

I really wanted to keep this layout simple. That seems to be a theme for me. I used quite a bit of thin strips of patterned paper and wash tape.

IMG_6515

I really wanted to focus on the journaling and the photo. The photo I used is a self portrait, Me holding my camera in our outside sliding door. I love how I am reflecting as well as the big tree outside.

IMG_6522

I love this concept of seeing me in the world around me.

IMG_6517

I wrote tons of journaling too.

IMG_6516

I love that I have a place to talk about the things that have influenced me to become a story teller, a scrapbooker, a documenter of my families journey!! I have always grew up having photos be a big part of my childhood. And not in the sense that pictures or cameras were always being used. I am sure they were used quite a lot, but the focus was more of the photos. I remember almost every time we had big get togethers at my grandmothers house we would pull out the photo albums and tell the stories of what or who were all in these photos. My grandmother would often tell us these stories like the picture was just taken, last month. Do you remember when .. And I was about three in the photo. I wish I could remember, but these stories have be engrained in me that it is almost like I do remember!!

I am so glad I can pass this down to my children. This need to take pics, have my focus be portrayed and be able to print and tel these stories to my kids so that they can remember too. It is a priceless gift. A friend as just telling me the other day of an aunt who died, that was a scrapbooker. She had left behind tons of scrapbooks with tons of pictures and memorabilia and stories. Stories that she had compiled since the 1950s. They were able to all sit back and relive all the great times they had as a family by sharing her scrapbooks with each other. This story is precious!! I hope I can leave this type of legacy for my family, the legacy of what good times we had as a family, the things we loved, they things we did together, who we were than and now. The legacy of pictures and stories of our lives.

The historian in me knows that the more you know about your past and what came before the easier it is to know who we are now, and who we want to become!! That is such a profound legacy to leave.

IMG_6509

We all have our gifts, and I love that my family has helps give and engrain in me mine!! That I can use my camera to help tell my stories!!

IMG_6512

The I am collection by Simple Stories was perfect for this layout.

IMG_6518

And aren’t those Color Cast Design stars so cute!!

IMG_6513

I also used some enamel dots and Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold to finish off my layout.

IMG_6523

I love the way this whole layout turned out!! You can watch the process video here.

IMG_6507

Don’t forget that Crafty Meggy and Felicia also have made and are sharing the second layout with their version of this homemade stash kit. By clicking on their names you you be directed to their Youtube Channel and process video.

Thanks for joining me today!! I hope you were inspired today!!

Also come back this week as I will be sharing my progress on Week In The Life.

Aloha, Hannah

For the love of homemade kits: New kit share Round Two

Aloha Scrappers!! I am super excited to share this new recipe and kit with you today!! I can’t believe we just finished our first round of this series and now going to start another round, round two!!

This Round I really tried to simplify my kit more. Also Megan and I decided to add another layout to our line up. After me really being able to get so much out of my first kit, we figured it would be more challenging for us to try to make 4 layouts with this kit.

Also this round we have another Youtube joining in on the fun, My friend Felicia Young is joining in. She will be sharing her kit this week as well. Then next week she will be posting her layouts on her Youtube channel. Be sure to check out the links and see what both Felicia and Megan make and come up with. Also if you want to join us, be sure to share, with us your homemade kits!! We really want to inspire you to use your stash up and create layouts you love!!

Here is the recipe we used this time, we did change it up a little,

Inspiration paper: Maggie Holmes Shine Memento

I love this idea of starting off a kit with an Inspiration Piece, this really should be no surprise, since I have put together a whole youtube channel that uses inspiration pieces to start with. (though that is neither here no there..) An inspiration piece really helps to be able to tie things together some how. no matter how you use to interpret that piece.

We are using the same recipe for papers this round, which are,

  • a geometric paper
  • texture pattern (ie. woodgrain, fabric, brick, etc)
  • Stripe
  • Freebie pattern of our choice
  • 6×6 piece paper

These are the papers I choose this round:

  • Pink Paislee C’est La Vie 01
  • Dear Lizzy Documentary Fancy Free
  • Maggie Holmes Bloom Lizzy
  • Shimelle Starshine Hubble
  • 6×6 Maggie Holmes Confetti Page (streamer Circles)
  • Piece of Pink Paislee Memorandum Memo

Here is a look at my Papers

IMG_6247

I really wanted to keep my papers fairly simple because the inspiration paper is bold and has tons of colors.

For the embellishment part of the recipe:

  • cut file
  • chipboard
  • stamp set
  • washi tape
  • tags
  • Sticker sheet
  • die cuts/ embellishment pack
  • enamel dots
  • free embellishment
  • 2 Alphas (Thickers, etc)

Let’s take a look at what I put in my kit:

IMG_6254

For my alpha’s I picked Amy Tangerine Foam Thickers Thick and Thin in white and Pink Fresh Studio Happy Things Foam Phrase Words

IMG_6255

I chose 2 sticker sheets, Maggie Holmes Bloom stickers(black, gold and clear) and Shimelle Starshine clear sticker sheet.

IMG_6258

I chose Fancy Pants Happy Place Tags pack and some Crate Paper Wonder Acetate tags.

IMG_6264

I am am bad about following rules (have I mentioned that..LOL) I have three freebie embellishments. I really want to use these so I don’t really feel bad about adding some extra’s in my kit. I have a pack of Maggie Holmes Bloom Hearts, Pink Fresh Studio Happy Things wood veneer, and Color Cast Designs acrylic stars.

IMG_6251IMG_6253IMG_6252

For Dies cuts, I added Simple Stories I am die cuts as well as mixing in some digital die cuts that I bought from Claudia Van Rooijan’s Amy Collection at her Esty shop. (That collection was designed be Claudia herself)

My Stamp Set is one I recently bought from an online store Sakuralala, which was designed by Amy Tan. This stamp was just released when Amy came to Hawaii in April.

For my Chip board I picked Maggie Holmes Shine chipboard. (I actually had to sheets of this chip board so I really want to try to get most of that used up!!)

I have two rolls of wash tape, a pink glitter tape and a grey swiss dot wash tape.

I have enamel dots by Dear Lizzy ( believe they are from the Daydreamer collection) and one other pack from Allison Kreft #Happy.

IMG_6267

I can’t wait to share with you the layouts I am making from this kit!! I am excited to use this kit. It’s so colorful!!

I hope you check out Megan’s Kill A Kit and new Kit share video, link here. Also check out Felicia’s Kit share here.  We will start to share our layouts next Tuesday May 3rd. We will be sharing 4 layouts with this kit, so look forward to lots of fun and lots of ideas and inspiration.

Am I more beautiful with earrings? (For the love of homemade kits)

Aloha My scrappy friends!! This past week has flown by. I am taking Ali Edwards‘ Lens of Joy class, and I am loving thinking all about photo taking. All I want to do is grab my camera and take photos. It has been really hard to sit down to scrap, because I just want to go places and take photos. No Lie, and No shame!!

I know I will have a chance to use my photos later, so taking photos really doesn’t bother me. I was actually thinking of turning some of my photos into canvas for my house.

Anyway back to what I would like to share with you today. As you may know, my scrappy friend Megan and I have been using our homemade stash kits lately. We made a recipe and this week we are sharing our third layout with our kit. This is the final layout on process video I will be sharing with this kit. Next week we will be sharing our new kit, recipe for the kit and what we had leftover from our kit. (i will be sharing the other layouts I made with my kit too, because I had tons of stuff leftover and wanted to try to kill it more.)

For this layout I wanted to play with some paint. Yellow paint was one of the things I added to my kit as the paint element. I was really wanting to have the paint to peek through a cut file.

I added the acrylic paint without adding gesso to my plain white cardstock. I find sometimes the gesso warps the paper more, and since all I was adding was acrylic paint, I figured the page would be fine without the gesso. If I were adding modeling paste or sprays and watercolors, I would definitely add gesso so the water wouldn’t absorb into the cardstock.

I really like how the cut file I found from the scrapbook and cards today magazine blog, looks over the bright colors.

IMG_6229

Lately I really have been trying to use more photos on my layouts. I find that I like the look of them smaller when I am using more than two. I use four in this layout. Angling them gives interest to them. I thought about whether I wanted to add paper behind them. In the end I decided against that so that the cut file could stand out. This was one of those times, I tried really hard not covering up the mixed media and cut file I had on the background.

IMG_6222

These pictures are from a couple of weeks ago, when we took our girls to get their ears pierced. They had been asking lately to get them done. We had been out for doctors appts, and found a Walmart close by that did ear piercing. The girls were a little timid about the pain but in the end they did amazing and didn’t even shed any tears. The sight of their ears pierced definitely put a smile on their faces.

IMG_6232

I placed three clusters of embellishments around the photos. I tried to stay close to the photos, so that the outside of the cut file wasn’t covered.

IMG_6228

I used the same colors in each cluster so they matched in feeling.

IMG_6231

The middle cluster I kept really simple.

IMG_6224

This Pink Fresh Studio frame is the perfect place to put the journaling, when I actually write it in. Usually I am really good at doing my journaling before I take photos to my layouts. Not this time. Though I always make sure I add journaling before I put my layouts in protectors and in my albums. This way they are fully complete and I don’t flip through an album that isn’t finished. Plus I find it easier to remember what I want to write better when I finish my layout, than if I wait.

IMG_6226 (1)

For the title I used a question my daughter asked her Dad at the end of the night when she got her ears pierced. It was such a cute question. I thought this would be perfect for the layout. Also I always think I need to remember to write down the silly, cute things my kids say and then I rarely do. This was the perfect time to record that question and remember it.

IMG_6230

I like mixing fonts for my titles. These gold thickers add a pretty aspect that I think goes with the feel of the layout too.

Here is what the full layout looks like.

IMG_6220

It is definitely bold and fun just like my girls!!

I hope you have been enjoying our Stash kit series. I have been having a lot of fun trying to use my stash before I have to move. Next week I will be sharing what I have left from my kit and some other layouts I was able to make with my kit. Then we will be using a new kit. I will also be sharing my new kit too.

Here is my process video>

Here is a look at what Megan made with her kit!!

Have an inspired Week!!

For the Love of Homemade Kits (homemade Stash kit)

Aloha My scrappy friends!!

My scrappy bestie Crafty Meggy or Megan are doing another challenge together. We are hoping to do a few of these Homemade kits before the packers come to pack and move my stuff (whenever that we be). This is a good way for us to use of some of the stash we have building up. Or use up some products that have been laying around our scrap space a little too long.

We put together a basic recipe kit and picked out One paper to start building our own versions with this recipe. Our goal is to see two people use the same recipe and a starting out paper and how different a kit could look because of the products you have in your stash.

Here is the Recipe we used for making our Homemade Kit

Inspiration Pattern Paper (paper we pick out together as Inspiration starting out point)             1 geometric patterned paper                                                                                                                                 1 Texture patterned paper (i.e., woodgrain, fabric texture, etc)                                                        1 Stripe patterned paper                                                                                                                                 1 Freebie Patterned Paper (any kind of pattern of our choosing)

We also added a 6×6 or scrap type of paper in here for fun

A Silhouette Cut File

Wood embellishments

Phrase Stickers

An Ephemera Pack (or die cuts)

Paint

Free Embellishment choice

2 Alpha’s (Thickers)

Megan and I are doing 3 layouts with this kit we made. I am actually hoping to get 4 or maybe even five with this kit. I added quite a bit, I tend to go a little crazy when making a kit. We really tried to keep the recipe simple so that we could make a small kit. This will make it easier to get through the product in the kit, but still use some product up.

We will making a few of these homemade kits. We may change the recipe up a little, maybe not. I like the idea of switching a few things up but basically keeping it the same.

I am really excited for this series. I love making small kits. I love figuring out what papers go together and finding embellishments that match too. I am hoping to also helping give a few tips into homemade kit building too.

So Now that I have talked a little about this basic kit recipe, thats get into the good stuff. Sharing the First kit I made for this series.  (There will be tons of photos!!)

Here is a look at the full kit I made

IMG_5456

It is a jammed packed homemade kit, isn’t it. I really tried to add a variety of different textures and products. I wanted to be able to use my kits for a different types of layouts I would need to make, girl, boy, dog, an outing, my travel to New York. Knowing I didn’t have pictures picked out yet for this series I wanted to leave myself room for whatever stories I might be able to tell. That is always something to keep in when when building a homemade kit. Do you know ahead of making the kit what photos you are using? This could really help in picking out embellishments or papers.

Let’s talk a little about the different things I picked and why.

IMG_5442

Our Inspiration paper was “Blossom” from Dear Lizzy Documentary. It’s the pretty watercolor floral paper in the picture above. By having a main paper it makes it easy to pick other papers to go along with it. We picked a busier pattern that had multiple colors as well. This helps with being able to match papers from other collections that have similar colors.

My texture paper was Pink Paislee C’est La Vie paper 09. I really love the grain in this wood grain, and that pink color is so sweet.

My Geometric paper was Amy Tangerine Stitched “Map To My Heart” paper. I thought the watercolor theme was being carried over from the inspiration paper.  They are similar colors also. I thought it was a fun take on a geometric pattern, the V’s.

My Stripe paper was Maggie Holmes Bloom “Sunlit”. It really is a plaid or gingham type of pattern which I kinda twisted to fit how I wanted this kit to look. I really love how fun and spring this paper is. It reminds me of sunshine.

My Freebie papers are (and yes I picked more than one, but one is not a full sheet and one is a 6×6 piece) Pink Paislee C’est La Vie O6, Maggie Holmes Bloom “Adore”, and a 6×6 page from Maggie Holmes Bloom (Newspaper and Aqua streamer cut paper). I picked the Pink Paislee paper because it had similar colors as the flowers but were in dots. I like all the white on it but would let me add a little more color to the page in a small way. The “Adore” paper I picked because I thought it would be fun to use, and it’s cute with all it’s swans!!

I tried to add some papers from similar collections to add a cohesive look. I think it’s easy to see I am in a spring mood with this paper kit.

I will say I had a hard time stop adding papers and even embellishments. In the end though I had to remember that this kit is only to make a few layouts. Megan and I thought by making a smaller kit, then We would be able to actually scrap more because the kit wasn’t overwhelming. I am thinking though that I can actual make 1 or two more layouts with this kit then the three we set out to make. If I do actually make extra layouts with this kit, I will definitely share it in a few weeks when we switch a new kit.

Let’s talk Embellishments.

IMG_5443.jpg

These are my Alpha’s for this kit. The gold Thickers are the new Maggie Homes Bloom thickers, “Happy” and the black alpha’s are Studio Calico Seven Paper alpha stickers. Those are super fun, half of them actually are colored. I love the chunky glitter on the Thickers.

IMG_5446

For die cuts I picked an opened pack of Pink Fresh Studio “Up in the Clouds” I had leftover. I thought the colors were fun and spring like. I also thought it would be nice to use them up! I also picked an opened pack of Dear Lizzy Serendipity Die Cuts. I love the watercolor feel of this pack, which I thought would match well with the papers I choose. I also had tons of these die cuts leftover in my Stash. I had had three full packs when the collection came out last year, this is my last pack.

IMG_5448

Word/Phrase stickers are so popular right now and I have tons now. I really don’t use them as much as I should. I thought that this addition would add something fun and trendy in our homemade kit. I think when making a homemade kit, it’s a fun idea to use something trendy. Even if it’s just a little bit in the kit. The longer sheet is from Fancy Pants Designs Happy Place. The colors were really the reason why I picked them. The Maggie Holmes sheet I just want to use it up.

IMG_5451

These are my Freebie embellishments!! I picked the Serendipity puffy Stickers to match the die cuts I picked. I think adding embellishments from the same collections really does help it match and work well together. Plus you know the colors will match better. I picked the rubber charms from the Maggie Holmes Bloom collection. These are really cute!!  Then lately I picked these JilliBean Soup sequins that already have adhesive on them. The pink color I thought would add a good pop of color on the layouts I am making. I thought these would be a good alternative to enamel dots.

I am going to be using the Wood Embellishments from Hello Love. I have been having a hard time using them because they are so big. I think adding them to this kit will help me try to use them up a little too!! I think another fun thing about kits you can buy through kit clubs is that they usually have something that makes you have to think about how to use. These wood pieces is this for me.

IMG_5454

Megan and I wanted to add some media to our homemade kit. We choose to use paint. I picked that yellow acrylic paint and my water color palette. It’s a basic watercolor set, with a variety of colors, so I have tons of choices. I also decided to challenge myself to use sprays on my page. I am so bad about adding sprays except for splatters.

We are also having to use a silhouette cut file in the kit. I hadn’t picked what one I want to add yet, but I have a new Silhouette and I really want to use it.

Here is one last look at my kit. I am so excited to use it up!! I will after three weeks share what I have left too. Our Videos/layouts will be posted on Tuesday starting today.

IMG_5457

I hope this is a fun look at making a homemade stash kit. I also hope if you want to join Megan and I that you link and tag us on social media!! I really hope you play along. I am going to be using the hashtag #fortheloveofhomemadekits on Instagram.

Look forward to another blog post sharing my first layout with this kit!! It’s coming soon!

Have an Inspired Day

Aloha, Hannah

Art Party Friday on The Crafty Maven Getaway

Aloha My scrappy friends!!

Tis been hard lately, I am not gonna lie. The sunny is shining here in Hawaii and I have had no desire to create. I hate when that happens. Life is busy and at the end of the day, I am too tired to use my brain.

I am trying so hard not to punish myself for not wanting to scrap. We all have lulls. We all get busy, and we definitely all get tired.

Well this week I was up at The Crafty Maven getaway for Art Party Friday. I didn’t even know where to start to tell you the truth. I made a total of two layouts within the last 7 days. So I decided to do a technique I have done before and really like the way it turns out. It is easy. You splatter watered down paint on white cardstock, then use a paintbrush to dab the splatters. You end up with a pretty airy and artsy look. It also is really forgiving.

IMG_5217

I then used a stamp that had x’s for a little more something going on. I was also hoping the black would tone down the fact that I may have overdid it with all the different color paints I used. I really couldn’t help it though. I was inspired by the rich bright colors in the inspiration from The Crafty Maven Getaway.

February Inspiration 1

I love these colors I just didn’t want them so bold on my page, if I could go back I would have not added the orange paint, but in the end I really love how all the colors look on the back ground.

I decided to use the Maggie Holmes Bloom collection, for two reasons, the main reason, it’s brand new and I was hoping that would get my all excited. I love breaking into a new collection and cutting up new papers to layer on a background. this excitement really gets me excited about scrapping. I also really liked how the colors of this collection matched the splatters on my background. Sometimes when they seem to work you need to ride that train. I find thats when a layout starts to make itself.

To be honest that is really what happened with this layout too. I didn’t have the die cuts from this collection, which I am soo bummed about, but it made me have to dig into my stash and find embellishments that could match this collection and feel like they were meant to be together.

IMG_5211

I picked out some teal Color Cast Designs acrylic hearts. I picked out a gold glitter chipboard frame from the Maggie Holmes Shine collection. I also took a couple other chipboard pieces of that sheet as well. I grabbed some black and white puffy geo tags from the new Pink Paislee C’est La Vie collection out too. They just worked together, and fit like a glove.

IMG_5209

When I started working on the layers I knew I wanted them to not be so tight. Lately I have been trying to bring out my inner Jill Sprott and really use layers in a funky trendy way. I cut my layers in different lengths and sizes and almost fanned them out under my photo.

IMG_5206

I did stick to less colors in my pattern papers since I have so much going on in my background. I really also went for different textures and patterns that were bold, like in the inspiration piece.

I love how the chipboard looks tucked under the layers too!! It gives the layout some height which I always like. It helps let you see different angles of the papers and ephemera that maybe you would see if if was all flat.

I also think it helps with the playful tone of the story that I journal about. This picture is my oldest daughter using a walkie talkie we gave her for christmas last year. We gave one to each of the girls, but the girls weren’t really interested last year at all. The other weekend the girls were cleaning their closest out and found them. They are really into the My Little ponies right now so to have another thing that had pines on it was really exciting. Then they realized they could talk to each other from different rooms, and boy they couldn’t get enough of these walkie talkies!! All weekend long all they did was try to talk to each other from other rooms, up stairs and downstairs, they even tried talking for outside too. It was fun watching them play with these toys, so simple but complex at the same time! I really wanted to tell this story, and put to paper this photo, this smirk of delight that Leilani has!!

I am really glad I ended up keeping it pretty simple as far as embellishments goes. It really made me have to focus more on how to be playful with the layers. Also with a busy background it really didn’t need much more. I tend to not know how to stop, and I am glad I feel like I am really learning this concept, of less is more!!

Doing this layout, even though it was a technique that was simple and something I have done before really did help me feel like I am catching my mojo. I feel like I want to try another layout to see if that one makes me want to create more. I think that is how mojo works sometimes too. The more you use that muscle of art and creation the more you get that itch to create again.

I am ready to pull out another piece of white cardstock and see what journey that piece starts to take me. See where I end up with that piece of paper, what story I end up telling too. I think that is a good place to be when you end a layout, if you ask me.

Here is one last look at my layout.

Art Party Friday at The Crafty Maven Getaway

When I started working on the layers I knew I wanted them to not be so tight. Lately I have been trying to bring out my inner Jill Sprott and really use layers in a funky trendy way. I cut my layers in different lengths and sizes and almost fanned them out under my photo.

I did stick to less colors in my pattern papers since I have so much going on in my background. I really also went for different textures and patterns that were bold, like in the inspiration piece.
