It is full swing in the holiday season here at the Lemieux house!! I have been really inspired by this holiday season, so what do I do but document it in my Art Journal.
I recently bought the Shimmerz Christmas Set. It has some really awesome and rich colors. It reminded me of the big evergreen tree I have in my back yard. Even though it is not normally covered in snow, I love when it is because it is so beautiful. I wanted to recreate that look in my Art Journal. Take a look at what I did.
I also pulled out a bunch of the green sprays out. If you didn’t know I am in love with using the Shimmerz Sprays as watercolors. Even though I love the inklingz and creamer I just have really enjoyed splattering and using the sprays as washes. I mixed and blended the greens to look the branch of the evergreen. Just like in nature, you never see one true color but a bunch mixed together, I always keep this in mind when trying to paint something from real life.
I added the branch with brown Creameez, and highlighted the branch with a bit of olive branch Spritz. I then used a fine line bottle with Acritonez, In the Navy and Tar, Tar mixed with some airbrush medium to thin the paint out. This makes a nice consistency to doodle with. I also added some limb doodles too.
Later when the tree was dry, Truthfully I let it sit for a while, not quite sure what I wanted to add next. I love when my pages have this span of time. I don’t rush through finishing it up, I let it sink in so I can create something I love.
I added this stencil on both sides of my art journal.
I added hand stitched ornaments in various patterned paper on my spread too. I wanted them to look like they were hanging from the tree limb.
Each ornament is a bit different but with similar colors to look like they match with the spread, but with this Christmas themed spread.
I love this little bird. I wanted it to look like he was sitting on the ornament in the tree. Each of the ornaments have what looks like a string from the paint in my fine line bottle. I started with this to connect the ornament to the tree but looked like it had a metal piece holding it.
I added some creamer in thunderstorm which is a grey to give it that silver metal look. Then finished with some highlights with a silver paint pen.
Each of the ornaments has different stitching but in similar colors as well. I have to say this is my favorite part. The fun part, because as cool as the limb looks by it’s self now it feels like a Christmas Carol.
Which is where I got the idea for my sentiment.
Frolic and Play the Eskimo way… I used a variety of alpha stickers I had that helped pull out the feeling of my spread. It’s a simple sentiment but just has that feeling I was going for. Of being out in the nature enjoying the holiday season.
Here is one last look at the whole spread.
BE sure to tune to my Youtube Channel later and watch this whole process!!
Also be sure to mention me in the Shimmerz Store checkout to claim your gift!!
Thanks for joining me today!! Can’t wait to share more with you later!!
The rainy season is full blown here in the PNW area now. And that means I am searching for color. Which really translates into watch out for a load of colorful projects!!
Today is Shimmerz Day!! I love this day. I love one I get to focus on all my Shimmerz stuff and just play.
Lately I have been doing a ton of art journaling and I have been itching to maybe, just maybe try some art on a canvas. Then bam in the mail came a wooden canvas!! What are the odds of that?! It really must mean I needed to try something. Anything.
If you have been following me this fall you have noticed I really have been leaning towards more of that watercolor look. I have been loving taking my Shimmerz sprays and grabbing my paintbrush and let the sprays splatter. There is just something cool about when the liquidy color lands on a page anyhow it flows differently every single time.
Using the wooden canvas did make the spray splatters look and bleed into each other a little bit. I did add absorbent ground to the wood before so that the splatters move more on top of the wood instead of in the wood. Absorbent ground like gesso has a white tint to it.
Let’s take a look at this canvas and I’ll mention a few of my favorite elements on it. I also will mention a couple of things I would change if I were to re do this again.
I used a round paint brush to achieve the larger splatters and blend the splatters together. This part does take a bit of time, but with some music and just letting go of that analytical thinking this process to me is so calming.
By using multi matte medium I adhered pieces of paper and washi tape. I just put them randomly around the canvas. At this point I have no idea where this spread is gonna go. I really like to take that approach too. I try no to overthinking it. There will be time for that later when I add extra stuff to my spread.
Once the matte medium is dry I added some tiny triangles with a fine line bottle with thinned out with airbrush medium to In The Navy Acritonez. Acritonez is really thick but I love the color. By thinning it down I get the color but really easy draw with in a finalize bottle.
I think my favorite part of the canvas has to be the gold foil flakes!! My friend Khristina started a fun kit club(Secret Not So Secret Club) and put together a mixed media kit for me in November. She added these gold foil flakes, and I have been itching to use them.
To adhere them I used matte medium as well. I think maybe in the future I might use modge lodge in shiny finish, I feel like it would not mute the shiny gold part. It takes a bit playing to get the foil not to stick to your fingers but once I got a good system it was really fun adding tons of gold through the canvas.
To create the wording on the canvas I created a cut file in Photoshop and welding in together in Silhouette Studio. I used two different fonts and then cut them out with the same patterned paper. I used a gorgeous paper in the Bohemian Dreams Collection from Cocoa Vanilla.
If I were to redo this I think I would use more of a solid like pattern. Also maybe a color that was different then the background splatters. This will affect the look once the Modge Podge dries. I really have to work to add outlining and contouring around the letters. Even with some paint markers and a charcoal pencil I still needed to add something later.
I layered lots of ephemera, die cuts and stickers on top of two gold doilies which I wrapped around my wood canvas. I made sure I gave a bit of dimension to them by curling the edges up and thinking about the materials I was layering together.
I know this is quite busy, but for me it was all about getting messy. Also having fun.
Now that I ventured out into the world of canvas art work, I have a feeling I will be doing more of these canvases!!
Be sure to be on the look out for my process video later tonight on my Youtube Channel.
Also be sure to mention me when you make some purchases over at the Shimmerz Store and you will get a fun prize. This week there has been some amazing deals so check them out. Also there are quite a few new items in the store as well. Some of which I used today!!
Welcome, Whether your a regular follower of mine or you are here to follow the hop today I want to welcome you to my place!! I love that I have a place that you can come and get to know me through my art!!
Today the Scrapping Wonders Design Team is collaborating with Accent Scrapbooking. Accent Scrapbooking has amazing flair badges that come in lots of styles and colors. They are so beautiful. Today we are using these for our project.
I will have the line up at the end of my post if you get lost along the way. Be sure to comment along the hop and you will be entered into the drawing for prizes of a $15.00 gift certificate to Scrapping Wonders and a $25 (Canadian) gift certificate to Accent Scrapboking. You should have come from PinkPie’s site, wasn’t it the Traveler’s Notebook gorgeous!! I love the cover work.
Let’s look at what I created for today:
I used the Mixed media Traveler’s Notebook Insert from the Scrapping Wonders store. I love how this paper really holds up to any of the media I want to add to my pages. Today I added some Crushed Coral Shimmerz mixed with light modeling paste to make it lighter and more of a whipped look. I used a 6X6 Echo Park houndstooth stencil across the page. I didn’t want the edged lines of the stencil to be really harsh so I added torn strips of patterned paper in layers on the top and bottom of the stencil marks.
I layered some exclusive cut files from Clique Kits with splatters of Shimmerz Vibez and Spritz. I also attached a label from Pretty Little Studio with my mini attacher. I added the date multiple times to create that ghosting effect you get by stamping multiple ties without re-inking the date stamp.
I did more layering on the top edge of the stenciling. I made smaller layers and a thinner cut file leaf insert with a flair badge. The thickness of the Mixed media paper of this insert will really hold up well with the flair’s weight too.
For the opposite side I added this grid patterned paper because it mimicked what was on the flair badge. I also wanted to mimic the muted colors that were in the pack of flair badges too. I used a black and white square photo.
I added hints and pops of color among the layers of silver and grey. It really adds to lazy look when I took this image first thing in the morning before my coffee. Before the color of the day breaks free as the warm coffee starts to wake me up and the yummy yogurt flavor bursts life into my day.
I added my title by using this script font words from the Tales and Dreams Collection at Pretty Little Studio. I also made sure to use the same cut file, label and even some of the torn patterned paper as the other side to tie the whole spread together.
I love how this brings your eye across the whole spread.
Thanks for stoping by today and seeing what I have created for the Hop. Make sure you follow the hop and comment on all the blogs along the way for a chance at the gift prizes.

Here is one final look at my layout. I love all the layered elements that work so well with all the mixed media on the background!!
Today I am sharing an art journal spread in a Traveler’s notebook insert. This is my first spread as a part of Shimmerz Paints Design Team. I am so excited too, because I love using their products. This is definitely a dream team that I joined. It is fun seeing where all the creating I have been doing these past few years has taken me.
Here is a look at my spread.
Today I used : Acritonez:
3 Sheets to the Wind
In the Navy
This month is the month for Blog Hops, and welcome!! I am actually having fun joining in all these hops, sharing what I have been working on, what I am creating. I also am loving seeing all the stuff everyone else is creating lately!
I love that about this community that we are so open to support each other and love being inspired by our friends and others in the industry.
Follow through the hop today and comment and you will be entered into the giveaway, from Beth’s Scrapping Wonders Store. We are also teaming up with a really cool sticker shop in Etsy.
I hope you enjoy your time here today and learn some fun things about me today. Our theme this month is Truth or Dare and today we are playing two truth’s and a lie. I will be telling you some things about myself and you are gonna have to guess what is the lie. (I will try to keep it simple, since I may have some new followers to me 😉 )
I am also so excited to share with you my spread for the hop. I have been working all week on it, so it has been a real labor of love and creation. My stewing on this spread so it is fun and says what I want it too. I feel like all art journal spread tells a story other than one you may think you are telling. all the stuff you are working out in life comes through when you create. You pour it all out on the page. And whether we mean too we tell a story. This is something that awes me too. I love seeing my personality flow right onto my pages.
Usually at the end of the spread, when it is finally finished I think it is totally cool how it looks and feels like me. This spread isn’t my fave, and I really had to work it out to get something I was happy with. This is the journey some art journal spreads take though. I think it’s the learning that is what is what really comes out of it.
This spread however are inspired by my favorite drink ever. Coffee.
This is why I choose the colors I did. It’s no surprise that I have been digging Purples right now. It’s my new found color to add a smile to my face and try to incorporate all the shades in my work. I also thought that some teals and dark blues would go well with the purple. As I got going a coral color made it’s way onto my spread. It was my unexpected color choice.
Early on I knew I wanted to stamp out coffee cups and hand stitch on them. I added some patterned paper from some Maggie Holmes 6×6 and 6×8 pads. These smaller patterns made it easier to fit on the cups better.
I loved that I got to pull out more of my coffee inspired products, like coffee bean stamps and coffee cup stencils.
The texture and layers using these products really helps drive the love I have for coffee.
I used lots of layers of Shimmerz sprays and Acritonez paints. I made purple by mixing navy and pink.
I also used black and white polka dot tissue paper on the right side of the Scrapping WondersMixed Media Traveler’s Notebook. This is my fave Notebooks. The quality of the paper is thick and has just the right amount of texture to hold up to tons of mixed.
The Columbus Road Prints Stickers really add to my spread too. I added them on top of the media, I used multi medium matte to attach the stickers. Even though they are sticky I worried they wouldn’t stay stuck to all the media I used.
I also use the multi medium matte to adhere my sentiment. I used an old Pink Fresh Studio alpha stamp in teal, purple and pink stamping ink. I mixed the colors around for the sentiment to make them match better. I love how it looks.
For the word time in the sentiment, I made sure I outlined it with some paint markers around the edges. I wanted to make sure it popped out enough to see.
Here is a look at my full spread. It’s so colorful and a fun way to share my love of coffee.
Along with this blog hop we are playing two truth’s and a lie. A fun way to get to know us ladies on the Scrapping Wonders Design Team. So in the next paragraph I am going to tell you three things, two of them will be true and one will be a little fib. Can you guess what is the lie? Add your guess in the comments and you will be entered into the giveaway for a free Scrapping Wonders Traveler’s Notebook Insert. Follow the line up below and comment along the way and enjoy the Hop!!!
You may have come from Suzanna’s Blog, if so Welcome!! If not, you need to get over there and check out her amazing layout!!
It has been forever since the Sparklers have gotten together and had a hop. I kinda missed it. I love spending a quiet (even if the quiet is in my head with coffee to dull the sounds of children asking for their morning needs. See my kids still are on summer break. So mornings are definitely not all that quiet in my house.)
Like all the SpiegelMom Scraps blog hops I have joined in, I will list the line up down below. There are a lot of us, so I will try my best to keep it simple and short with tons of pictures. That is my favorite part of the hops, if I am being honest. I love being inspired before I have even gotten started for the day.
Follow the hop and comment on all the blogs for a chance at to win a prize of the new September release of sequins. The winner will be picked and notified on September 2.
This month our theme as a group is Artsy Fartsy and all the sequins are designed to match different famous art works. Here is a look at the sequins released this month. They are gorgeous and our very own Lisa helped design some of them.
Lately I have going back to my roots. If you have followed me throughout my scrapping journey, you know I have fully embraced the mixed media trend in scrapbooking. In fact I credit a lot of my artsy tendencies on my family. My great grandmother was really artsy, I grew up seeing her floral paintings around our house. My grandmother also dabbled in art and drew and painted a fireplace in our house as an accent wall. My mother has played with watercolors, painting lots of gorgeous Hawaiian sunsets. Playing with paints helps me really dig into the inspiration I need. It refreshes me.
I will admit though sometimes it takes a while to create these “works of art”. There is lots of drying time, getting over the fear of the blank slate, and just figuring out what you want to convey on the page you are creating. Sometimes pages come together really fast and easy. It seems the paint flows with the ideas. Other times you take you page one step at a time. Taking days to finish all the little layers you add to create interest on your page, and then you add pictures and embellishments.
I love this journey though. It truly has made me a better scrapbooker. And I have loved coming back to my roots.
Let’s talk about this layout I made for today.
Because I knew this month was all about art, I will wanted to embrace it. I started out my scrapbooking layout blank, like it was an art journal type of page. Just letting my products guide me into a direction. This means I had no idea what photos I would end up scrapping or what story I wanted to tell.
I mixed some of the Razzle-dazzle berry spray with some acrylic matte, which helps seal in the spray so it doesn’t blend and mix with my next layer. It changes the spray a bit too so that it is intensified on the card stock. This step definitely needs to dry overnight.
I am still very much entranced with purple tones!! I don’t know what it is about the color but I am all about purple. I don’t have the Shimmerz purple acritonez. Acritonez, are acrylic paints with a primer in them. They are so nice for mixed media that is layered. It isn’t as opaque as regular acrylic paint so you can still see bits of other mixed you may have under it. I like this on projects like what I am doing. I don’t want all that work I did under to disappear, I want to enhance it. I mixed the pinkadelic and the in the navy Acritonez together to make some different shades of purples. Let me tell you this was so much fun!!
I applied this layer with my palette knife. I used this layer as a base to doodle on. I used a variety of paint marker pens from my stash. I drew some flowers and leaves. This is my favorite part of the layout. I am so glad it worked because it could have been a disaster. This is one of the things about mixed media. You have to be brave. Many times you make decisions when you could ruin your work so far. If you don’t take the leap you won’t get the big pay off at the end though.
This is what you are working for too, with mixed media and art journalling. This fact that all these little steps will come together and have this big pay off.
I knew this layout needed to make statement. I am not gonna lie, I still had no idea where I was going with my page from here. I scoured the silhouette store for something that popped out to me. A sentiment that fit with this spread, that I could make my own. Finally I found the perfect one. The part that made me chuckle was it brought me back to SpiegelMom Scraps too. I love how this can happen too. In this journey we travel in scrapbook page making we finally come full circle.
I found a sentiment that said snails & puppy dog tails. I made it huge so I could stitch around it one I cut it out on my silhouette. I wanted it to cover most of my layout. I want this phrase to be what you see. I also added an alpha with this title/sentiment that said Sequins. It would be perfect for the story I was now going to tell with this page.
I printed out two very small photos. I usually like to use bigger images on my layout, but this just seemed to call for something small. I had two photos I wanted to use too. They are my two younger children Cayden and Samuel. They are holding up Spiegelmom Scraps glassine bags filled with sugar and spice and a bit of small sequins. They wanted them because they had been reading nursery rhymes and read the little girls and little boys are made of nurses rhyme. They want to create their own mix to create the perfect little girl and boy. The silly little things our kids do, I love their innocence they still have. I am glad I have been able to protect this a bit. Sam was quite upset that boys were made from snakes, snails and puppy dog tales and insisted I use his sisters mix because it was better for making the perfect boy. I told him I added a bit of pepper for a dash of fire and spiciness that makes boys a bit different. Just retelling this story it makes me smile. They were so cute. I wish I could keep them this age forever!! There scene of exploring and discovery is so fun to watch.
After I stitched the sentiment, which took a while, but so worth it!! Thank goodness for Netflix when it comes to hand stitching. I used a variety of purple, teal, copper thread and then I added some of the pink and white baker’s twine from the store. I wanted to have a bit of color to match the colors I used on the background.
After adding my photos with a bit of layers. I lightly embellished my layout. I added some of the Cocoa Vanilla Wild at Heart die cuts, I knew all the purple would work perfect with my colors. I also knew the florals would help tie in my own floral I doodled on the bottom of my layout.
I finished off with sequins, because I just don’t feel a layout is finished without them. I used the Painted Gardens sequins from the September Release. I also added a few Stargazer sequins. I wanted a touch of a clear sequin to reflect of the background. These were perfect for this layout!!
You can watch me create this layout on my personal Youtube.
Here is a final look at my layout. It is so much fun. I will end up typing out my journaling and adding it to the backside of my layout. It will also help cover up all the stitching too.
Thanks for joining in on this hop!! It is always so much fun, being inspired by so many great designers. Don’t forget to continue on the hop and comment so you can be added in the running for some free sequins!!
Up next is Daisie Scraps!! I can’t wait to see what she created, I know it will be awesome!!
